Pay your taxes ladies.
I don't understand what happened, or rather: why this happened... She didn't say she hadn't / wasn't paying her taxes? It's pretty scary.
If we're registered as self-employed (HMRC know where this money is coming from), and we pay our taxes, we shouldn't expect this kind of thing to happen, but the way it was written seemed like this was just so... random.
I'm inclined to think that someone reported her to HM Customs thinking she wasn't paying her tax, or maybe hoping she wasn't, however earlier this year my accountant did tell me that the governement were looking very closely into things like ebay etc and anyone that looked as though they were infact trading but posing as a hobbyist would be investigated. The tax office will and do take out random inspections wether you are paying tax or not, so we all need to make sure that not only are we paying but making sure everything is above board. The only other thing I would add is please please please, anyone that gets a knock on the door from any one claiming to be official, tax man or otherwise, CHECK THEM OUT! Ensure they are legit before letting them in, obvious I know, but someone claiming to be a tax inspector can be intimidating.
I need permission from my landlord to film??? :-S
I did my taxes on turbo tax 2 saturdays ago it took me 5 hrs with all my paper work and deductions but I was sooo relieved to be done with it!!
My landlord knows I work from home, and that is fine. However, he doesn't know the nature of my work. Is this a problem? Thanks Missy. XxQuote:

Wow this is really scary reading. I'm currently considering camming on US sites from the UK - (probably streammate) I have a f/t job here where I'm taxed automatically but don't have any experience of doing my own tax and am not sure where to start. I'd really appreciate advice from anyone on here from UK who has experience of declaring camming income. Would I register as self-employed? And is the fact that I'm doing sex work on the side something I would specifically have to declare?
Get a good accountant ladies....I've been through it with the IRS & trust me it's worth it!!
Ellie - In the UK you won't need an accountant for our type of work - the process has been made Uber simple, to help ensure it doesn't put people off filing. If you file online it will literally be ... input total earned, input expenses..... form calculates proffits and tax allowance, and gives you the total of what you owe.....
For you it will be a little trickier, already being on a PAYE code - but it's better to sort it sooner than later , and once they have the right codes for you , it should be safe sailing.
You can PM me if you need a hand - god knows I've spent enough hours of my life studying the system ! If you're pondering an expense, simply call them and ask them , or mail me lol I've questioned every possible expense in the business ! From lighting to my toe nail paint. ( and no they wouldn't hehe ) .

Hi UKmissy, thanks for the advice and for calming me down slightly! I was wondering about PAYE and if I'd need to tell payroll at my employers that I was earning a 2nd income- if I do this I'd like to be discreet about it. I'm probably worrying at a far too early stage and should give it a whirl first to see if it's potentially a useful money earner for me. If it is, I am very likely to take you up on your offer and pick your brains in a few weeks time!
Ellie xx
Keeping what you do a secret is no problem at all - If you can get it as close to the truth as possible it helps, because then you can claim for relevent expenses - You can't claim for stripper shoes if they think you're a painter and decorater for example .... But there's no reason at all for your current employers to find out what you do . Good luck with your endeavours. And my brains are pickable when you need. xx
This sounds like a it was a random audit - they can do that anywhere, to anyone. People who work from home but make a decent amount of money are always in the firing line - annoyingly, it is assumed that you must be doing something wrong!!
Its just another reason to file your taxes, keep your paperwork in order, and stay on the right side of the law. And don't freak out too much!! If you make a mistake on your taxes, they aren't going to throw you in jail! You would be fined, and made to pay back taxes plus interest to the amount of the mistake. This is why we pay accountants and build emergency funds.
The one thing that does freak me out is that they had copies of her AW e-mails - surely that doesn't fall into the area of information that the government can take in order to do an audit???
^ Yeah the emails being passed on just made me sick in my mouth . I hate this shit.
My landlord knows I work from home but...he's also my grandfather...so, he doesn't know what it is I do. I'm moving, but my lease isn't up til July 1. Hopefully I don't get a knock on the door before then because I really don't wanna get permission from my Papa to cam from home lol.
I don't know about the UK, but in certain parts of the USA, there are zoning laws which regulate the 'time, place and manner' in which an adult business can and cannot be operated ... with or without the permission of a landlord. Since adult webcam work technically falls under the heading of being an adult business, it is indeed possible that camgirls operating an adult business from their home could be in violation of local zoning laws. I've never actually heard of enforcement measures being taken, but technically they could be.
I see there's been an update on that thread, regarding AW giving out the personal mails etc ( they say they didn't and her pc was hacked ) AW themselves have been on to respond ! wow !!!
It was different in the case of the girl in that thread, as she was living in a council house . ( ie the goverment own it ).
The government has access to ANYTHING it wants. They literally own us.
I still cannot believe some girls are dumb enough to think they'll never get caught whatever they're doing. ESPECIALLY where there's an obvious paper trail. Camming = online = paper trail. Stripping, there's not so much of a paper trail, but everything paid for by a customer using a credit card and then some is pretty obvious. And if the girl deposits it or buys a pricey cash item, its obvious.
