Having a vanilla/side job vs being a hermit
If you've experienced both, which lifestyle makes you more eager to get on cam?
Sometimes being a hermit/homebody puts people in a slump. Do you find it easier to get on cam when you're regularly at home; surfing the net and watching movies? Or, are you more excited about it after coming home from a 6-8 hr day at your vanilla job, when you're still in 'money makin' mode? Which lifestyle makes you more enthusiastic about camming? Have you ever noticed a drastic change in laziness and procrastination with either lifestyle?

Re: Having a vanilla/side job vs being a hermit
I've done both.
For me, trying to do it all works very well short-term. I was working 20-30 hours a week and going to school and camming. For a while I was doing really well at everything, because like you said, I was in money-making mode.. I just kept going and going! It started to get to me after a while though; I even randomly burst into tears for a good hour at my receptionist job. (Good thing I was working the night shift and nobody was around!) It's higher stress but if you can handle that go for it... long-term, I found it hard to keep up.
As a hermit, it's harder to get into the swing of things. You can sleep in, and there are so many other distractions - take the dog for a walk, vacuum, oh now I have to make lunch, damn we don't have any bread so I'd better go to the store, aaaaand then you're making excuses about why you can't get on cam at all that day. If you're going the hermit route, I definitely suggest having a routine or a schedule that you stick to!

Re: Having a vanilla/side job vs being a hermit
Ultimately depends on the person, since your name is KushKandi I am assuming you are a stoner like myself which makes it even harder in the procrastination department lol (I should be writing an essay instead of this right now, damnit!)- Before I started camming I worked a vanilla 40 hour a week job and was generally miserable and just wanted to kill everyone. I'm not sure what kind of payment you'd be getting at a 'vanilla job' but hell - I would never go back to working for $11 an hour when I can cam and make 3x what I would in a full work day in half the time. But again, depends on the person - I am a total hermit and am quite happy at home, making money when I want to with no set hours or a boss to slave drive me into insanity, and chatzy works just fine for me when it comes to social interaction (loool face to face human interaction? no thx)
Lazy is my middle name though, balancing school with camming is hard enough and I can barely manage that. Ultimately the $$ is my biggest motivation to get on cam, and what I am doing the rest of the time doesn't really come into play. If I wanna be a lazy bitch all day long and not work, I can. It's awesome. Can't do that with a vanilla job!

Re: Having a vanilla/side job vs being a hermit
When I worked part time, I had an even harder time trying to have a schedule/routine going to do cam than when I was just at home all day. Plus I was flat out exhausted...then again I worked in a restaurant, so Im sure it would be way different with an office or jeez, any other kind of job.
I will say though, that yeah, the less active, the more lazy one gets...doing nothing *is* exhausting! lol When I first started my pt job, just getting out, having people to actually interact with and um...a dose of fresh air everyday did energize me and I did more cam. But as my pt job got more demanding, the more drained I was.

Re: Having a vanilla/side job vs being a hermit
I am considering getting a vanilla job because the hermit lifestyle is making me a lazy hobbit lol. Like MissEgo said, I have more time to cam but somehow always find reasons not to cam. I am cleaning the house 24/7 or washing clothes, or buying stuff I need.....there's always something to do and when I'm home all day I notice it more. Takes me forever to get on cam to be honest. Once I start working its not as bad but I still find reasons every now and again to log off and do other things I need to do. I wish I was better at managing my time because I know my earning potential is pretty good but I never seem to get around to working that much. School made it even worse. I used it as another excuse to not work since most my classes were online.
I haven't tried the having a vanilla job on the side but I may this year to also help with taxes. I usually get a good return so hopefully it'll help go towards the taxes I will owe.I would definitely like to know how it works out for other ladies as well. It's always a struggle trying to find a daily routine that works.

Re: Having a vanilla/side job vs being a hermit
Since I've started camming I've been a hermit, so I can't compare the two.
Procrastination is a bitch, though.
One thing I do is that I almost always set an alarm now. If I don't, I'll sleep in too much or stay up too late, and it messes up my entire schedule.
The other thing is that if I've somehow convinced myself out of camming, then I will work on other stuff. Editing videos, and more recently my website and promotion. I find that that kind of work is a lot easier for me because I don't need to be "on" or look good or be smiling and talking. I can just sit in my robe with a big bowl of ice cream while still managing to be productive lol. I really want to do more indy camming so I can spend less time in "free chat" which can be energy draining.
Besides that, I have an inspiration folder on my desktop with all the things I want in it, short term and long term goals. I should make a point to add to it more frequently. So I can remind myself why I'm caming.
And honestly I think I should start posting my schedule on my laptop. I'll write it the night before and put it right on my monitor. Because surfing the internet, and debating wastes a lot of my time, I need to write it down where I see it first thing in the morning.
But yeah I really need to get out more. Even just a walk around the block in the morning would be good.
Okay, this didn't answer your question directly but maybe this will give you some ideas. :)

Re: Having a vanilla/side job vs being a hermit
I am considering a vanilla job...I have a lot of time to cam but like all the other hermit girls lol I'm always finding excuses not to....gotta clean, gotta go to the store, too tired, more excuses lol....I also feel it will help around tax season too...I am however trying to stick to a schedule but it so hard to stay focused, idk...I can't call it lol

Re: Having a vanilla/side job vs being a hermit
One of my biggest distraction believe it or not is SW.LOL.I get on there to get motivated but i end up reading every thread there is.Like most of u girls i do procrastinate a lot to get on cam.My biggest thing is i have a 2 year old daughter so i have to cam around the time shes in daycare or when she's sleeping at night ,which is like 12 am (I know that's too late of a bedtime but i love spending time with her) so between going to school and camming when my daughter is not home or sleeping leaves me not that much time to cam ,so it sucks that i dont take advantage of the time shes in daycare. My sleeping schedule is all mess up so that makes its even harder to have a regular camming schedule.I dont know why i procrastinate so much but what i do know is my ass will not go back to a 9-5 job anytime soon. But one thing that i notice is that being a cam model is turning me into a loner :(

I feel you there. I try to read SW while I do other things, so I can justify the time I spend on here. :p
Anyway, I'm a hermit. Always have been, likely always will be. (Yay future stay at home mom)

Re: Having a vanilla/side job vs being a hermit
I work 3-5 days a week at a part time job. When I'm working 5 days a week, I'm exhausted and don't do much camming, just focus on pics/videos. But I'm going back down to 3 days a week soon, so I will be camming probably twice a week.
I am not really a social person so going to work helps me get "out of the house". Aha. Yeah :)

Re: Having a vanilla/side job vs being a hermit
I really do love being alone all day everyday hahaha but lately I have been so unmotivated. I applied to be a bartender at a place real close to were I live and
it will be part time prob only a few shifts a week. It will be good for me. make a couple hundred a week so all my bar-tending money will go to bills n all my camming money will be for savings and me woop woop plus it will help me remember which day of the week its is lol.

Re: Having a vanilla/side job vs being a hermit
I love being able to set my own hours, etc and wouldn't change it for the world especially since I plan to go back to nursing school soon this job will be my savior lol when I was in the LPN program I worked as a cashier and that drained me having set hours and having to work then come home and study, now I can schedule my working days around tests, etc. I won't be going into an accelerated program I'll just be going for my RN the reg way but still yet, with clinicals, case studies, etc...Yeah I'm def keeping this job. I have considered maybe doing some CNA type work for home health or a nursing home maybe one weekened a month or something like that but other than that...no lol. And that's just to have some experience to put on my resume besides clinicals.

Re: Having a vanilla/side job vs being a hermit
Sometimes I want to get a nilla job just to get out of the house more and socialize. Then I remember there's no ban button and I freak out lol. Now that I've discovered the freedom of being self employed I will likely never go back to working for someone else again. I think the thought alone just took 7 minutes from my life.

Re: Having a vanilla/side job vs being a hermit
For most of the available jobs the pay is far too low for me to consider. I might if there were one that would provide health insurance and/or dental, but seems those days are gone.

Boy do I know the feeling, it's really hard finding a legit job these days. I just had to quit my last job because my boss was bi-polar and extremely mean!
Thank goodness I have a generous Boyfriend and helpful family to turn to when I'm in need. But anyway I'm not sure what part of the US you live in but Delta airlines
hiring for reservation sales in Texas, Minneapolis, and Cincinnati they have excellent benefits and perks!!!

I know youre not exactly looking lol but if anyone is and interested, I worked for a corporate restaurant as a hostess, no service industry experience, and was making $12/hr plus they offered med and dental and a raise at my 3m review (I didnt take the raise, the work and hours were brutal and I quit). I already have that so I didnt take the option, but places do offer it.

Trying to do school, work a vanilla ( outside the home job), and then find time to cam or( do any other adult related job) does take its toll after awhile. For me, it is only short lived before I want to break down and cry because I am tired/sleep/exhausted/burnout/overwhelmed...all the above and then some. At first I can be all energized bunny because I am amp'd for having such a full schedule but then after awhile when I realize my school and B&M vanilla job are set schedules then I have to find time to work my more lucrative adult jobs still, it gets much especially since there is no time to break without slacking the adult jobs since that is the only thing I can control schedule wise. School schedules are semester long and jobs are not as flexible as working for ourselves. If it is a short term schedule then yeah I can keep it all up for a little bit or it needs to be a less than part time schedule and flexible for me to be able to work it all in there otherwise I will snap. Like a vanilla job that I can work PRN or Per Diem and only taking 1 or 2 classes a semester while working my self employed jobs. Something like that or else I will be motivated at first but then loose motivation from being exhausted and overwhelmed.

Re: Having a vanilla/side job vs being a hermit
The only way I'm okay with dealing customers is when they're behind a computer screen. Otherwise, they suck the life out of me.
I'm terribly happy being a hermit... I think I'm actually less of a hermit because my one job is camming. I get to work as much as I want, and use the money to fund my travels! I love being able to use the money I make to visit people and places! :) Especially in the summer! (We don't have to be locked away when the weather turns amazing!)
If I worked a vanilla job alongside camming, I'd be more of a hermit because I'd get burned out quicker and I'd be tied to one location.

Re: Having a vanilla/side job vs being a hermit
At one crazy point in time in my life, I was working full time makeup artistry retail sales and freelance bridal (which I later swapped for dancing), interning, volunteering, and going to school (granted most of my classes were online). I LOVED being so busy!! The busier I was, the more productive I was. I got a lot done in a short amount of time. To be honest, I just wanted an excuse not to have to visit relatives lol. Then I got sick for awhile and had to quit pretty much everything and still haven't gotten back on track. I NEED to be busier (multiple things), but there's not much else that forces me to be busy except camming/online stuff which we all know gets old. Will have to wait until I move to resume hobbies & other work.
Wow that was really fucking boring.
OKAY, LONG STORY SHORT: I am A MILLION more times productive when I am extremely busy. I have no idea why. But once I get derailed or have downtime, I am unmotivated and accomplish very little.

This sounds like me though...the more I have on my plate, the more energy and drive I have to get things done and Ill be running a tight shp. But when I dont have that kind of schedule, I could have one thing to do all week....and not get around to it cause Im lazing around, and to make matters worse, no energy and sleep half the day away. So yeah, I totally feel you...

Medical/Dental insurance is pretty much the ONLY reason I waste my time piddling my time away for a mere $200 weekly. That and it helps make that 3 year work history gap I have less of a pain in the ass to leap over when I move out of state and have to start over again. ^__^
But yes, I find now that I have less time to slump around to watch netflix and get fat, my ass is in the gym everyday before my vanilla shift AND I'm raring to get on cam. :D

Re: Having a vanilla/side job vs being a hermit
Having a vanilla job makes me so eager to log on for the night. Not just eager, I actually get relaxed at the thought of logging on. Before camming I would masturbate after work anyway, especially if it was stressful, so why the fuck not get paid for it? :D
My vanilla job is currently as an office temp at one of the hospitals out here. I make ID tags. allllllllll. dayyyyyy. looooooooong. And it's so freaking boring and repetitive, I really don't care for it much but the company that hired me is just putting me there until they can find someone to fill the position. Then, I get to go be a security officer like was originally planned. :P
The pay is good, and the camming helps with the bills even though I don't put in a ton of hours. Basically the vanilla job is rent, and camming is my fun/travel/rainy day money :)

I miss Netflix. Now that I've had had it turned off temporarily (mah Xbox broke!!!), all I do is watch CNN and Fox News because if I have to watch dumb shit on TV, I'd rather avoid the 50 bajillion "red necks doin' stuff" shows they have out now. There's nothing on television that interests me. :(
I LIVE for SVU marathons though.

Re: Having a vanilla/side job vs being a hermit
I'm currently almost in my third month of working a vanilla job after getting burnt out on camming for a few years, and I find it refreshing to have the opportunity to quit completely when I felt like camming was driving me crazy. At this point I find myself missing certain aspects of camming and I'm totally feeling like the vanilla job makes me want to cam more than I ever did without it. Something about living a "double life" totally appeals to me at this stage, and I'm happy that if I do decide to cam I can do it as little or as much as I want to and never have to worry about it being slow or boring or irritating... ever. I did take my very first NF calls in months the other day, and was blown away by how I made more in 10 minutes than I do in 2 hours at my vanilla job, but that added to the good feeling about it for me. In the beginning when I first discovered camming I truly loved it. Over the years it began to stress me out and I hated it. Getting the vanilla job allowed me to get back to what it was that I really loved about it in the first place, and hopefully I can just log on when I want to be sexy or bitchy or slutty or whatever else I feel like playing that night and earn a little extra fun money on the side. :)
