Found a company called tooway that offer up to 4mbps upload, but they charge a hefty 99.99 per month for it!!! (160 dollars to you us girls!).. worth it?
I suppose as a business expense its worth it yes. For normal personal use it wouldnt be.
Increased earnings will reflect whether it was a good investment or not.
Remember to check that the 1mbp's and the 4mbp's are from the same measurement. Dont want to be confusing our bits and bytes then realising there was no difference in speed at all :)
I have heard that satellite broadband can be unreliable so it might be worth looking for reviews etc from users before spending that much. Unfortunately, UK broadband speeds are terrible all over (apart from those few areas with cable). Depending on your mobile reception you might be better off on a dongle (expensive also, but maybe not as expensive) which tend to offer good upload speeds. However, they can also sometimes cut out (I used to use one to splitcam).
Be aware that they also have data usage limits (as do dongles) - so you may well be paying top up fees as well as your monthly subscription. (By my calculation based on previous dongle use you would get about 50 hours per month inclusive usage on the package I think you are looking at, which gives 25gb usage, but it may well work out at less than that, particularly if you use SM)
The net i have is good enough for normal camming, and i can cam ok on sm by itself. When i split i get complaints about quality/ speed. I'm looking at trying to split 3 or 4 different sites, and increasing how many clips i make which means tons of uploads. The other half also likes to play xbox while i'm camming. So I really need something better than what i have grr.
This is the package from tooway i was looking at, http://www.toowaydirect.com/purchase/ the tooway 10+ for heavy users. As a spring promotion they are now offering unlimited data usage. I wonder if the cost of this is tax deductible?
To be honest I thought achieving such an upload via satellite would be more expensive ! Last time I looked into it , I was looking at in excess of 400 quid a month for the same kinder upload - I would be very interested to hear how you get on with it, or any new info you uncover.
The cost should be tax deductable - with phone lines/internet, the tax office take into consideration that an average person pays for internet and phone lines anyway , so if you still had your adsl line , the whole satellite bill would be deductable as you've taken it primarily for business purposes, if it's your only form of internet , you may have to minus off the cost of a standard adsl line, and deduct the rest as expense . Whatever EXTRA you're having to pay to run your business should be tax deductable .
Ahh awesome. We only pay £15 right now, so the other £84.99 should be deductable? I think we'd do it that way as seems a bit confusing having 2 lots of broadband.
Yeah £15 sounds about average - I don't see why the rest shouldn't be tax deductable - and as long as you have proof of all your spends- All they can say is , no . Are you in a rural area ?
^Just make sure you get unlimited going forwared (ie not just for first three months or something). Also, they have a 'fair use policy' and that means CAPS! (ie strangled line, like BT does). It won't be a problem if you are not camming loads, but it probably will be if you are!
I just read the term and small print, it's unlimited until 2014 if you order before the end of may. Unfortunately it also states this is no good for games like first person shooters because of the latency. My other half won't have that at all lol, so looks like we may have to keep current connection AND have satellite. Not sure how we'd go about that. I will cam 8 hours a day 5 days a week thereabouts.
For those of you already with uploads of 4mb, is this enough to split multiple sites? Is this considered "good" upload speed?
^wouldn't the latency problem also be an issue for camming???
check the minimum GUARANTEED upload speed, because most of them when they say 2 or 4 Mb they mean UP TO, which is the maximum they give u. I've heard that satelite is not reliable + most of them make you pay like 300 € for the satelite and intallation, you can give it a try but make sure that u can cancel your contract after 1 month if you don't like their services.
They have free satellite and installation right now if you opt to install it yourself, though they want £39.99 for the wall mount you need. Thanks for the point about checking the guaranteed speed, didn't think of that!!
Just had a very interesting conversation with o2 broadband actually. I asked if there was any way to increase upload speeds other than satellite option, bearing in mind we've already had extra ports opened, whatever that means, and had some download speed swapped for extra upload (didn't make a bit of difference!). Well he said one thing you can do is get a bt-iplate which fits onto your phone line socket and reduces interference from the wires, another is to go into your broadband settings and change your wireless port, and also you can try unscrewing the phone line socket and plugging the router directly into the port inside. All of which will help see some increase in speed, but by how much he couldn't tell me. I'm going to try all that first and see if it makes any difference.
Also, the satellite company i'm looking at have test centres around the uk where you can go and test out the service. There is one near me so i think i will go and do that too. I'll let you know what more i find out x
I am looking at satelite at the moment too.
Tooway say that if you need it for gaming then they have a business broadband alternative with no latency issues.
I will call them tomorrow and see what they say
Business bb costs £179.99 pmonth, ouch! Have pretty much given up on this idea as other half reckons latency will make camming all but impossible :(
OK, I have a new question - Any UK girls in a similar position to me gone with business broadband and noticed an improvement? I don't want to pay out the extra if in effect i'll still have the same service because of the limitations of my line/ local exchange etc.
I use business broadband but I am pretty near to the exchange
There is a difference in going with business broadband , and taking the business satelltie package. I am thinking if you lived close to some other girls - the busines satellite package may be splitable ? But when you're getting into 100's a month , you'd be aswell to look into leasing a line .
have you looked at line bonding?? Bethere broadband offers it. It's not cheap, but would likely be a lot cheaper than your satellite option. Basically you get two phone lines and 'bond' them to produce double the speed of your current max.
If she can't get ADSL1 , it's unlikely bethere will bond her , I'm with bethere, but it's a non option for my rural house move . :-(
ah that makes sense
