Camming While Living W/Family
I swear there have been other threads about this but I couldn't find them --- and I wasn't sure exactly what terms to search.
In a little over 2 weeks my husband and I will be moving into my mother-in-law's house. She has a fully finished basement with a bedroom, living room, bathroom and wet bar that will serve as our kitchen (sink, fridge, microwave, toaster oven--but the main kitchen is right upstairs for us to use too) and its own private entrance. So I'm hoping that we will have a fair amount of privacy. Overall, the house is really large and her bedroom is on the 2nd story so there's an entire floor between us. My sister-in-law will also be staying there too and is moving in about the same time as we are. No one on my husband's side of the family knows that I cam.
My husband is worried that I won't be able to work while we're there. I don't really see that as an option.
I'm hoping I can cam after everyone goes to bed. I usually work late nights anyway. Also, they all know I work from home so that part is explained.
Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on how to cam while living at home? For those of you who have done it, how did it work out? Any advice on noise reduction? I have to cam with sound. My typing is just too bad to even attempt that.
Really, just any general advice on how to avoid a really embarrassing situation and any reassurance that it can be done /:O
Re: Camming While Living W/Family
If you're going to be in the basement one of the first things I'd do is play some music (louder than you normally are on cam), then go upstairs to see if or how much you can hear. If you can't hear anything that would give me a little piece of mind. I'd still test on the 1st floor because you never know if someone can't sleep one night or anything. Better safe than sorry.
Will your SIL be moving into the basement too? If that's the case.....not sure about that. I'm sure you can make do with people there. I've cammed from home without trying to wake anyone up in the house at night. The only bad thing is I can get a little distracted because I'm worried someone might be around the corner.
I realize this isn't your home so this might not work - but it would be amazing if you could somehow get a lock for the basement door on the inside. That way if someone heard something they couldn't get downstairs (while your camming) to see. Wouldn't that be awesome?! Lock it while your on cam, and unlock while your off. Granted it is someone else's property, so not sure how that would work.
Re: Camming While Living W/Family
On Thanksgiving, my husband went into the basement with his best friend and had a little jam session. Just a bass and a guitar and it was fairly noisy on the first floor in the kitchen/living room area but I still couldn't hear them playing down there until I opened the basement door and starting walking downstairs. That's probably a good sign.
And no, my sister-in-law won't be staying in the basement with us. She'll be on the second floor of the house---that's where the bedrooms are.
I like the idea of playing some loud music and seeing if I can hear it anywhere upstairs. Thanks.
I also worry about running into either one of them while in full camming makeup---like if I go upstairs for some reason or they knock on the door.
I'm going out to dinner with my MIL tonight so hopefully we can discuss boundaries and stuff. I think there might already be a lock on the door leading down to the basement.

I don't live with family but I have a roommate and sometimes her boyfriend stays the night. What I would do is lower my voice a little but loud enough so the custies could hear. I think you should be fine!

Before I moved out, I use to cam while everyone was sleep, I just had my music playing and tried not to be so loud
