Has anyone tried Chantix to quit smoking? Thoughts?
Any secrets to quitting smoking without gaining weight? The first time I quit I gained 10 lbs. and COULD NOT drop it (still haven't). And I'm in excellent cardiovascular shape. Sigh.

I asked about this a few months ago. he response was that it wasn't safe and that there were some studies that showed it fucked you up somehow. I can't remember what, But it was enough to make me not want to use it.
i would give this drug to rapists. i would not give it to anyone who did not deserve to have their own head become a nightmare. rapists and baby killers.
I've never tried Chantix although I know someone who did very well on it, she's still smoke free. I know that it shuts down the nicotine receptors in the brain. It can in some people cause severe mood changes, abnormal thinking & vivid dreams. I quit smoking 2 yrs ago by using Wellbutrin. It took the cravings away but the nicest thing it did was made the constant thinking about "gotta have a cigarette.." away. I also lost weight when I went on Wellbutrin. I've tried everything else from cold turkey, the patch, gum. I quit on Wellbutrin before but this time around I stayed on Wellbutrin longer than I did before and I can happily say I rarely ever think about smoking anymore! I can also breathe better too! The also nice thing about Wellbutrin is it'll totally sky rocket your sex drive!!! I had the best sex ever!!!
There was a girl at work who successfully quit on chantix, but i just stopped without the help of anything, the way i kept the weight off was just putting the extra focus on my body and the gym, and drinking alot of caffeine instead of snacking (tea and coffee, and certain energy supplements, no 1000 cal starbucks or sugary energy drinks!) I had alot of energy and tension when i wanted to smoking and i redirected it to positive things instead. For many the nicotiene is one thing but the habit is alot harder to break, so replace it with something healthier, like have a protein shake every morning instead of a cigarette, or fix your makeup on your break at work instead of smoking and smelling like crap. Doing these things made me feel good about myself and i never went back to smoking!
My mom was using Chantix. With that and self control she quit smoking and before that she was smoking for 20+ years. Now she absolutely hates the smell of cigarettes and can't believe she used to smell like that 24/7.
If you want to not gain weight and quit smoking the easiest thing to do is to do a little exercise every time you're craving a cigarette. Like every time you want to take a pull, do 10 squats or 25 jumping jacks. If you stick to that, you'll switch a bad habit for a good habit. And if you hate exercising, you'll begin to hate cigarettes because you'll start to associate the craving for cigarettes with exercise.
re: weight gain
it often takes a couple of attempts before you successfully quit smoking.
my first three times, i gained weight.
after that, i grew accustomed to that "feeling" and being able to recognize i only wanted to feel differently as opposed to actually feeling hungry.
