With smog. How do you deal with it? Should I just go around with a face mask? We walk a lot here, and the smog is yucky. First time I've had to deal with it, and I'm not sure what to do for me and my daughter.

Interesting question. I've wondered how people handle this (if at all). I've heard that living in Mexico City is the equivalent of smoking 15 cigarettes a day or something.
Exactly. Already my baby girl is coughing more often. :( I know Japan has strict emissions laws etc but still it's so hazy with humidity and car exhaust and lord knows what else
I live in Houston. I've also lived near BP. I have awful asthma and allergies. Also, I know several people my age who developed cancer while in high school (not saying people with clean air don't--it just seemed like an inordinate number of people for our age). Sadly, we don't really take any measures to protect ourselves. There are days when people near BP are advised to stay inside because of the air, but that's about it.
having grown up in taipei, i've seen many people living their daily lives outside (walking, on scooters, shopping, tai chi at the park) wearing face masks. i don't know if it actually makes any difference, but it's worth a try. your health and longevity is more important than not looking paranoid :-p and then during the SARS epidemic, the face masks became out of control!
Ninja style would fit in here LOL. :D However, I'm afraid it's WAY to hot and humid here for me to survive that the scarves, gloves etc. I'd pass out. I don't know how the women here walk around with full length coats, gloves, scarves, etc. ug. The hat I can do, though.
Hepa filter your house with air purifiers, vent filters, and vacuum filters.
Get some N-Acetyl-Cysteine for lung detox. Drink lots of water and use a good moisturizer that might mitigate some of the damage from your skin sucking in icky stuff. Also, look into anti-oxidant stuff to scavenge free radicals.
I've been reading some interesting stuff about B-17 and cancer but it doesn't have a lot of documentation, so can't tell you much-- something about the material in seeds-- apple, cherry, apricot, etcetera, used to be eaten a lot more commonly, and now isn't. It helps kill cancer cells and supposedly works as a preventative. Now I eat apples and pears whole, core and all, and when I come across a seed I chew it extremely fine since several cancers run in my family.
apple seeds have cyanide I think, but you'd have to be eating like a bushel of apples a day for your body not to process it.
I don't know-- makes for interesting reading. Plus, I actually like eating the core now.
Yeah, I'd also advise a really healthy diet...people ingest so many toxins willingly, through their food...just try to avoid what you can control.
It's scary that your baby has already developed a cough. I'm sorry. :(
