discussion!-"gender roles" I understand some members may be homo/bi sexual. Thanks!!
My friend and I had a very long conversation about gender roles and how gender roles have changed significatly. Many men have evolved into feminine roles. I have tons of gay friends so this might/might not apply to you.
As far as one, the more feminine one taking on the house wife/house person role, breadwinner, etc.
Buzzed getting ready for work
thanks

They have changed and for the better. In the past a couple would get married, the man would work while the woman would stay at home. Many couples resented this gender roles because not all women are meant to be housewives and not all men want to be the breadwinner. There was a lot of issues during this time, including drug use and abuse. The reason these issues were rarely reported was because women who were abused were often blamed. Even if they weren't their choices were limited as there weren't many if any shelters and often her own family would tell her to go back to him. If she left him and got a divorced she would be stigmatized as a divorcee. Of course men were abused too, but in this society women were lesser people than men. Gay people of course where ostracized worst of all and many married to hide the homosexuality. Then of course the 60s happened and everything that followed. Now choices are pretty open but unfortunately women are still discriminated against in many aspects of society such as jobs. When a couple has a baby the woman is attacked by her choice, whether it is to stay at home or work.
I don't feel anything should be decided based on gender. I can't really cook and hate to clean but oddly most of my exes did both. I hate many typically female activities such as bridal/baby showers and will only attend coed ones (or ones that are parties and not traditional). This had gotten me in trouble with people but honestly I don't care. I am not into clothes or shoes and consider them things you wear, not based on style. I only own a couple of purses. I despise chick flicks and chick lit and almost everything considered female. I don't have children so no idea what would happen in that respect but have seen a variety including stay at home dads, or both parents working to one parent only families to gay families.

To each couple, their own. Lol I think it just depends on what each couple finds to fit what they need, want and expect. The difference is that now there is flexibility, whereas it used to be set in stone what was expected of each gender.

Plus females still have a lower paying salery compared to a male in the same field position.
In a way, I am for the gender role, I love cooking and my bf can't clean like I do even though he helps as much as I do around the place. But if I could stay home and take of the "female" duties I would, as long as I can my husband giving me money into my own bank account for spending or saving, whatever. These days you cant be so sure when you get slapped with divorce papers, thats why whether your staying home, its always good to have a back up to fall on. The thing that I think is unfair is when men believe its equal but then suggest the female does all the cleaning, cooking, and pays her half of the expenses.
Wow I didn't know that was happening where women are made fun of and not equal to men in recent movies. Granted I haven't seen many recent ones but that is terrible. I can't say I am surprised though because actresses generally make less than actors. I do think though that more and more men are being seen as sex symbols so that is a good thing.
I agree with you about the whole 'equal' thing some guys pull when they want the woman to so all the cooking and cleaning and still pay half of the bills. That I will not do, I either pay half and do half the chores or I do the cooking and cleaning and he pays the bills. Women who allow themselves to be used this way are stupid and need to ditch these guys. Btw, I don't think it's a bad thing if someone likes traditional things, like a woman who likes to cook. I'm only concerned when a woman believes as a woman this is her role and other women need to follow gender roles too.

That's the beauty of many same-sex couples. The stereotypical gender roles are out the window. In my situation, for example, I tend to get stuck with the more traditional "male" tasks (mowing lawn, repairing things, taking out the garbage, etc.) while my girlie-girl partner does most of the housekeeping, laundry and care-taking of our boy (he's a german shepherd, btw :)).
But I also do the grocery shopping, cook most of our meals, and drop off/pick up the boy from doggie day care. I also pay most of the bills. Nothing is assumed, and since we are both girls, we each do what we do best. Works really, really well.

Gender roles will always be there but they are definitely less than they used to be.
My bf earns more money than me ( :( lol)
I cook, he cleans. We work much better that way.

I agree gender roles are still very much alive but there are some small changes. If it's for better or worse I can't clearly see which direction is best. I still love men bringing home the bacon. Now I sit at home and let them do that for me on cam. So IMHO things haven't changed that much at all.
