Do any of you keep guns in the house?
Being that you are a part of a business that can have its scary moments, (customers following you home, stalkers, etc.) do any of you keep a few guns in the house in strategic locations? (such as the night stand, next to the couch, etc.)
Also if you have small children, and keep guns in the house, how do you handle it?
The reason I ask is when I finally get back to being a stripper, I was thinking about buying a gun or two to keep at the house for my protection. I also have a small soon to be 3 year old child, so that may complicate things.
Any tips??

Re: Do any of you keep guns in the house?
I have big and small guns in my house. I keep one in my car as well. I have no children. You must always keep your gun locked up and out of reach of your child. That would entail purchasing a special combination lockbox AND practicing getting your gun out of it easily. If you don't practice getting it quickly and safely, it will be useless if you are in a bind and need to retrieve it quickly (and in the dark.) Storing it safely is of utmost importance because of course it will have to be loaded if it is going to be of any use to you. If someone did break in it would take way too long to get it out, load it, cock it, aim and fire. Changing the combination on the lockbox regularly is advised so as your child gets older he/she won't learn it and break in.
It is good to have some form of protection whether you are stripping or not. I have had run-ins with perverts in the daylight. But it is not good enough just to have a gun. You need to learn proper use, storage, and care. You need to practice with it regularly. I would not suggest even loading the gun before you learn proper use. If you are not comfortable handling your gun, you are better off not having one at all because in the event you would need one, you are going to be scared and full of adrenaline.
Before I got my guns I took a basic pistol class that is held in most cities in the U.S. They will teach you the basics for around $100-$150 and some classes will allow you to apply for your conceal and carry permit. Some classes are just for women. I go to the gun range to practice with my handguns and an outdoor range for my rifle. You may like target practice once you get used to it. It's fun.
Shop around for the type of guns you want. If you know someone who is into guns, it's best to go with them. There are so many different calibers, types, etc. you want one that you can handle easily and will not be too heavy/light with too much kick back. Ammo is important too. Your gun dealer will help you with that, but basically you want hollow point bullets for home self defense and full metal jacket for practice.
It is good you are considering having protection as you can't rely on police to always be there when you're in trouble.

Re: Do any of you keep guns in the house?
We have 7 guns in our house (my fiance and I). He is in the military and applying to the police academy so guns are a part of his life.
We have three handguns and four rifles. I do have a small child (age 2 1/2).
The four rifles are locked and loaded in our walk in closet (door is locked). Our bedroom door is also locked. So basically my son would have to get through two childproofed doors AND find a way to climb up onto our shelves to get the rifles. (We have 6 shelves built in our closet). Once my son can get past the door locks we will put them in gun safes, but he can't even climb out of his crib at this point so we aren't concerned. These are not hunting rifles, these are semi-automatic civilian versions of military rifles and shotguns which could be used for self defense if I couldn't get to the handgun--the ultimate back up. We keep hollow points in the handguns and slugs in the shotgun. We practice with FMJs in the handguns and whatever we have for the rifles.
The handgun that I keep at home while my fiance works stays on top of a TV stand in my bedroom (so I can easily access it from the adjacent room as it is right next to the door in my bedroom). The TV stand is about 5'4 tall (taller than me). When my fiance is home we keep the other handguns up there. I don't believe in keeping hand guns locked up.
I was raised in a military family and we were taught to shoot, clean, and handle loaded weapons at a young age--and also taught gun responsibility. A handgun locked in a safe in my closet won't help me if a bad guy comes in at night. My son does not see or handle the weapons at his age. My fiancee has a concealed pistol license and several holster. He usually carries two hand guns on him in public. I love our guns and they make me feel like I have a choice about what happens if someone came into my home and tried to victimize me or my son when we were alone and vulnerable. I hope I never have to use them, but if I do I will be ready to protect my family.
Note: I've had a few creepy moments (mostly involving neighbors who were customers when I lived close to the club) but after I moved back to my hometown an hour from the clubs I had no issues. I don't have weapons in my house because I am a stripper, they are just for personal protection in general.

Re: Do any of you keep guns in the house?
I grew up with guns in the house, always knew where they were and what they were for. I started taking safety and shooting lessons when I was about 7. If it's a normal part of life, it shouldn't be a danger to your kids. They need to know that they're dangerous, not toys, etc, but having kids is no reason by itself not to have guns.
And yes, I have guns in the house (but no kids). It just seems like common sense to me. But it is how I was raised.

Re: Do any of you keep guns in the house?
We have several. 2 handguns and 3 shotguns. It has nothing to do with the profession, it just has to do with people being really messed up in this world in every walk of life.
Just make sure you take several training classes and PRACTICE shooting, and practice handling/loading the gun in the dark until you do it easily. A gun is useless if you fumble and drop it when an intruder comes in.
I don't have children, but I grew up with guns. My parents always kept the gun in the nightstand, and I knew it...but I was also raised by strict parents and never touched it until I was taught.

Re: Do any of you keep guns in the house?
YES....guns in the house. A child? Store it up high out of the childs reach. A gun locked up in a safe does you little good in the case of an emergency.
Sorry ...noticed after posting it the original question was directed more toward the ladies......

Re: Do any of you keep guns in the house?
I don't have any guns & never needed one in my every day life. I had a job when I was younger where I carried a gun & was security for a madam & walked her girls in & out but sold the gun after. I'm not anti gun & have many friends that go to the range & some are women but I never got into them.

Re: Do any of you keep guns in the house?
down here way south of the border, guns are VERY important !!! I keep a Beretta Storm .40 rifle with scope and laser sight, a Remington semi-auto 20 gage shotgun, and a Baby Eagle .40 pistol handy at all times !

Re: Do any of you keep guns in the house?
Why are guns very important where you are? Is there a high crime rate?
-
Re: Do any of you keep guns in the house?
^^^ if you really want to know, it's important for 'gringos' to send a message to opportunistic locals that they will be pursuing 'opportunities' at their own risk. Because of this, the crime rate against 'gringos' is actually very low.

Re: Do any of you keep guns in the house?
No guns, but I have pepper spray on my key chain and also on my nightstand :)

Re: Do any of you keep guns in the house?
I kept guns in my house long before I started dancing, and I'll have them long after I'm done.

Re: Do any of you keep guns in the house?
We have before.
I have 2 boys, and personally I think it's important to educate your child on the gun if it's in the house.
Kids are very curious and it would be scary to think what would happen if they stumbled across it thinking it was a toy or something.
We don't have one in our house now (only due to money), but we have a machete! lol
and when we do get another gun, we'll be sure to teach my boys (mainly my 4 year old) that it's NOT a toy. We will keep it in a safe spot but teach him that he is not to touch it. I think it's important to be open and honest about the gun.
I think just telling a kid to stay away from that gun, will only make them more curious.
So education will be really important to me. :)

What I found most effective is that when you buy a gun for protection, also buy a simple bolt action .22lr, and of course a gun safe. Take your child to the Range and teach them gun safety and how to shoot using the .22. This removes the mystery and the adults only awe from the object. In addition they make the connection that real guns and real bullets make real holes, not like guns on tv or cartoons. You have probably made your kid very safe around guns, but still lock them up because you don't know about their friends.
There is the Eddie the Eagle program by the NRA and it is free.

Re: Do any of you keep guns in the house?
We do, but not bc of what I do, just bc this is texas and... well thats what we do here lol. No, but really i think its important to own and know how to be able to use a gun properly. You never know what can happen and its important to be able to take care of yourself if need be.

Re: Do any of you keep guns in the house?
I live in Canada so....no. lol. No need for guns here, and its just not a part of our way of life. I don't know anyone who has a gun here that isn't a hunter. (of course gang members have guns but those are illegal and not registered weapons)

Re: Do any of you keep guns in the house?
I traded in my Browning .38 for a Walther PPK and I also have a shotgun. Both are powerful enough to stop an intruder without going through them and hitting one of my neighbors. Down in Florida I carry a .38 automatic.

Re: Do any of you keep guns in the house?
If assault rifle is legal in your country, I would recommend AN94. It is perfect for self defense. It is intended to be used in two-round burst fire mode, although it can be fired in a fully automatic mode.

Not currently, but we do have some real use kitanas and nun chucks.
When I was little, my dad was in the army, later became a police officer, and was and Is a hunter. I grew up with them. Idl if my parents told told me about them when I was little but my first memory of them was my dad telling me do not go near this locked chest. Later when I grew older he taught me and my sis how to handle them, basic gun safety etc

Now we are getting ridiculous. Nobody needs an assault rifle. The primary purpose of a gun is DETERRENCE. In most cases, only idiots like Zimmerman ever have to use them.

Re: Do any of you keep guns in the house?
Need? No. Want, Yes.
Do people need assault rifles in America? Ask the Korean shop owners in LA. The stood on the roofs of their property and protected same from the looters, vandals, and arsonists during the LA riots. Wasn't a police officer to be found, unless it was a multi-million dollar down town corporate office.
I am 5'10 and 240lbs. I know damn well there are men who can kick me around like an unwanted puppy.
What does a handgun do for a Woman? Makes her the equal of any Man that walks into a room. Doesn't require large muscles, or gym time. .38, .357, 9mm, .45ACP all hit just as hard as for either Gender. What else does it do for a Woman. Protects her right then, right there. There in your hand while psycho billy is kicking in your apartment door to teach you that your still his girl, or wife. Not 20 minutes later, like the Patrolman standing over the Woman's corpse protecting the scene for the detectives and the CSI Techs.

This. I live in Canada. I don't know a single person that owns a gun, i've never even seen a gun in real life except on a cop. It's just simply not a part of the culture here. I'm sure if someone did have a gun and others knew about it, they'd think that person was a bad person.
They are pretty taboo here

I disagree. What if 4 assailants armed with AK-47s wearing body armor decide to invade your home. If you think those bad boys are going to be deterred by your pistol or revolver, it is you who is being ridiculous. Only thing that is going to deter them is when they see one of their buddies going down when AN94 penetrates their armor with its two-round burst fire.
And before you come back and tell me that my scenario is outlandish, I will give you example of two robbers who armed with AK-47 and M-16 wearing body armor engaged pretty much entire Los Angeles police department for hours in N Hollywood.

Re: Do any of you keep guns in the house?
I would advise You to find out if there are some local security companies (and how fast they are in case of emergency) - You just push a button and they arrive.
Maybe invest in really safe car, windows, doors; have some large dog and have it trained the way that it can protect You and Your child.
If You have a gun - are You completely sure You will be able to fire it at a person?

I wish I lived in your world. It sounds awesome.
