Re: Do any of you keep guns in the house?
This is an extremely Scarey Thread for me to Read though . We certainly dont enjoy the USA enthusiam for Guns , guns are illegal in Auusie ..most certainly hand guns . A farmer with a permit may have a firearm . Its very fightening to read though , because most say you have to have a gun because " You dont know who's out there " ..But really you have created a situation where any dam looney is going to have one anyhow and in the grand scheme of things wit basically ever dude who can afford it having a gun ..there are just more and more guns . Yet at the same time , you are simply too far in to reverse it .
Yet alone the power of the Gun lobby ..Wow .
I remember being absolutely Freaked Out , when the girl I dated in Myrtle Beach showed me the hand Gun she had in her Bag ..Arrghh .. for an Aussie thats Scarey . Its same in Bangkok , Im sure there are plenty of Crims who probably have Guns ( which would be the gun owners defence ) ..But , no no no ..Not something I want to consider even . For me , its hard to understand the acceptance factor , but anyhow , each to their own I guess .

Re: Do any of you keep guns in the house?
Because violent criminal activity does not require a firearm of any sort. However a handgun puts a 100 pound Stripper on a level playing field with a 250 pound mentally ill Ex boyfriend.
-
Re: Do any of you keep guns in the house?
^Exactly. I'm not so afraid of random robbers or whatever. I'm afraid of the creepy guys who follow me in the city or the crazy ex who would try and sneak in my window.
Guns aren't ideal, but they've kept me from being a victim.

I have been reading lots of news about violence in Australia especially against colored folks. Most of these violence resulted in fatality. Considering that, it is a good idea that guns are not common in Australia or else only lord knows what would happen.
-
Re: Do any of you keep guns in the house?
guns are only common in the USA....and third world nations.
-
Re: Do any of you keep guns in the house?
Fallacy. Guns are found even in Countries with highly restrictive gun laws. The collapse of the Soviet Union leaked firearms to criminal organizations throughout Europe.

The other day I was watching a news footage on Youtube about Canadians rioting after a hockey game. In that riot they managed to burn cars, torch shops, hurt people and damage some other properties. This was all done withtout guns. Imagine what they could have done if they had guns. Only lord knows. I guess that is why Canadian goverment is strict on guns.

Anyway on the separate note, there is another rifle that I will highly recommend. This is called ACR (Adoptive Combat Rifle). It is built by an American weapons manufacturer Bushmaster. This rifle is very ergonomic. It has a grip for your left hand and a shoulder rest which sort of absorbs the recoil so that your shoulders do not feel beatup. For your right hand, you have the pistol grip.
The rifle handles very well and is easier to master accuracy with. It is 5.56mm keeping with American norm for assault rifles.
Here is a video of a guy shooting his ACR.

ha ha ha ha ha ha ..Dont believe everything you read in Newspapers / Online ..or see on TV .
Violence against Colured that ended in Death ? What Coloured's ? Native Aboriginals ?
Although I agree ( forgetting your comments ) the last thing any place needs is Handguns and Shotguns , it appears to be some kind of medal over there as to who has the most powerful gun . Certainly your average Thai does not own a gun either ..( thankyou Buddah ) , the less GUNS in circulation the better .

Re: Do any of you keep guns in the house?
^ I assume Siddarth is talking about violence toward east indians in melbourne. I think one was killed in a fight maybe 3 years ago...
But ya being a canadian citizen and perm resident of australia... Ive never owned a gun or want to. I know a few criminals (from working at the club) who own guns and so I guess they feel the need to. Most crime here is underworld related so makes sense I guess. Theres been tons of shootings lately in sydney but they are all gang/bikie related so doesnt really concern me at all.
If I lived in the states and was married to someone who actually knew how to use one, Id let them keep one, but again I wouldn't even bother learning to use it. I think theres lots of other things I could do to help myself feel safe instead - living in a good area, security system, cameras, just being aware of surroundings, etc. I just don't think I could actually kill someone so if Im not prepared for an unfortunate consequence, then I shouldn't have one.

I curious are guns allowed in India? I read in the last week alone in Mumbai that
- a 26year old was killed on his birthday by 2 sons of a retired assistant police sub-inspector
- a minor road incident turned into a major violent brawl that resulted in an attempted murder case
- 5 people kidnapped and murdered a 12 year old boy
- a father of 3 is finally being charged after raping his own daughter for 3 years
If all that happens in only 1 week you should really consider getting a gun Siddarth.. or wait you shouldnt cause god only knows what would happen if indians had guns...

The truth about the so called Indian attacks in Melbourne was completly misrepresented in International media
The 1 incident the poster MAY have been reffering to , had nothing to do with the victim being an Indian . But yes , a random attack in Footscray by a drug Crazed youth ..
Certainly if everyone there had a gun ..More people would have been killed .

I would advise You to find out if there are some local security companies (and how fast they are in case of emergency) - You just push a button and they arrive.
I wish I lived in your world. It sounds awesome.
This is actually the 'scariest' comment that I have seen in this thread ... which implies that a two tier system already exists where those that can afford to pay for 'private' police protection can / will remain safe in their 'gated community', while those who cannot afford to pay for 'private' police protection are fully exposed to all measures of potential criminal onslaughts, followed by a half-hearted after the fact 'sorry about that ... we'll do what we can' from the 'public' police. In the latter situation, local gun restrictions that more or less assure that criminals probably won't face any risk of their working class / middle class 'victim' having a gun makes the criminals' job all the easier.
The latter impression ... that potential 'victims' won't pose any personal risk to would-be criminals, and that local 'public' law enforcement won't really make an effective effort to investigate, arrest and prosecute criminals for robberies / burglaries / non-permanent physical damage assaults / 'he said she said' sexual assaults etc. after the 'crime' has been committed ... is precisely the reasons that North American ex-pats in my adopted country went to great lengths to establish a public impression that we are very well armed !!! Unfortunately, residents of particular cities / states / countries with strict gun control laws in effect no longer have a similar ability.

Unless of course that the 250 pounder has a gun already held at your head ..
Or a 4 year old gains access ... and obviously fails to pull the trigger ..so his 11 year old brother shows him how . The potential list of negatives with regard access will always out weigh the positive argument . When gun ownership is running at 67% ..You Have a Problem ..Pure and Simple ..too any examples .

Re: Do any of you keep guns in the house?
why go the extreme and get a gun? if you're THAT worried, buy some mace for your purse/car, get a dog for your house. there's other things out there than guns. if you can't afford an monitored alarm system, get a super loud audible one, that will scare away an potential robber/predator.
-
Re: Do any of you keep guns in the house?
This is not directed at anyone in particular, but it aggravates the piss out of me. The thread is titled, "Do any of you keep guns in the house?" Not "Do you think I should own a gun?"
If you're okay with not being allowed to own a gun or you don't want one good for you. No one over here is telling you that you should or have to own guns. That would be someone trying to push their beliefs on you and it goes both ways.
The U.S. allows its citizens the choice to own firearms. No one here has to justify why they want a gun. They may need one, they may just want one. It doesn't matter because it's none of anyone else's business why. The average American gun owner doesn't intend to victimize anyone. That's retarded and irrational.
The people who live in various ivory towers in the U.S. like to think that because they don't need a gun in their gated community in Connecticut that no one else should have one. That's really scary.
And people that own guns don't believe that they are automatically safer either. I know my guns don't guarantee my safety by a long shot. They may come in handy they may be completely useless. But it's not up to someone else to decide for me that I shouldn't or can't have them.

- Australia gets cited for human rights violation more often than India does and I am including fake citation that Indians have to put up with over Kashmir
- All those crimes that you cited, occur more often in Australia than India even though Australia has tiny fraction of India's population
But the point I am making is not about India. It is the belief among citizens of certain countries that they are more civilized because their population does not have access to guns. In this particular thread, one poster from Australia (not including you) and one poster from Canada boasted about their civility at the cost others. I never boasted anything about India; it is you who brought up India into the discussion. I simply said it is a good thing that Australian and Canadian governments do not allow gun ownership because their population has issue with violence. This was in a response to their arrogance. So please follow fluidity of the discussion carefully. You are a moderator.

Re: Do any of you keep guns in the house?
nobody is being arrogant here. I haven't attacked anyone for owning a gun, I simply try to understand it.
boasting a civility at the cost of others?
as for Canada having an issue with violence? what are you basing that on? A Hockey riot? has your country never rioted over a sporting event before?
Every country has their issues with violence. We have an extremely low rate of violence and crime but it's still a work in progress.

You've gone from the sublime to the ridiculous in one fell swoop. Give me a fucking break. If that happened I'm not engaging them to begin with, however, if someone breaks into my house in the middle of the night there is nothing scarier than the sound of a pump action shot gun loading behind you. Anyone with half a brain should be able to assess the situation and decide their next move. Don't be absurd. The object is to deter, not kill.

I gave you a break as you asked and in response you blocked me. That my friend is not an adult way to respond to someone who just gave you a break.

Please don't leave the thread, it's OK. Breaktime for Bonzo is over.
As far as the guns go, I have mixed feelings. The advocates for everyone being allowed a gun who wants one may downplay the statistics on how many people are killed with their own guns, how many kids are killed or maimed playing with guns, or how many lunatics raised in the Gun Culture go out and shoot up malls, schools, post offices, etc. I can't.
On the other hand, so long as someone who wants a gun is mature, sane, knows gun safety, will keep it out of the hands of children or jealous lovers, etc., I have no objection to it.
And the fact of the matter is--speaking of statistics--the average woman has I forget how much percentage chance of being stalked, but it's really, really high. If she's a stripper, the odds become much, much worse. While I would hate to see a whole lot of strippers I have worked with anywhere near any kind of fucking gun, the women here are far from being those kind of strippers. Something sure needs to be done for self-protection.
The only fear I have is that so many people will go buy one but then not follow through on learning to use it, safety measures, etc. The worst thing you can do to a fucking lunatic stalker type is grab for a gun and fail to switch the safety off, miss him when trying to shoot him, etc.

Re: Do any of you keep guns in the house?
I grew up in a gun loving family and while I don't have one now, I have in the past. My parents own several guns and if they still lived in the area I grew up in they would need one. I figure if the thugs can have guns illegally then law abiding citizens should be allowed to. I find it disgusting when areas with high crime rates outlaw guns and that is letting the thugs win.
We have the Second Amendment and when we outlaw guns we ignore the Bill of Rights.
