How do I watermark a video?
I apologize if this is in the wrong place, or if it's been asked before. I tried searching the forum, and couldn't find a solution.
I'm trying to put a watermark on a video. I recorded it in wmv format, but converted to avi so that I could open it in virtualdubmod, which is the only free program that I can find to watermark a video. No one else seems to be having issues, as I can't find any solutions online, either.
What's happening is that first of all, when I open the video in VDM, it doesn't show it in two panels, like all the tutorial say that it should. I don't know why this is. If I try to add a logo, and make all the proper selections, it won't let me save it; it tells me that there is an error with the file (it says the file named "", like it can't even see the image file, even though it's saved in the proper format).
Is there anyone experienced with watermarking videos (without a paid program; I can't afford one right now) who can help me? I would really, really appreciate it. I can't get help from my tech friends on this, since it's a work video.
Re: How do I watermark a video?
I'm going to tack onto this a request for someone to explain how to do this on a mac.
I know If I record something in manycam I can get a watermark on if I film through my webcam but how do I do it after I've already filmed things through another source? I've found plenty of programs but they all cost $30+.
Re: How do I watermark a video?
I typed "watermark" into the search box and this is the 2nd thread that came up.

Re: How do I watermark a video?
That just covers how to watermark photos. Doing video is completely different. I know how to watermark photos; it's videos I'm having issues with.
Re: How do I watermark a video?
Sorry, I misread you :(
Forgive me, these SM issues are frying my bitty brain.
Re: How do I watermark a video?
No worries. Yeah; I've searched, and can't find anything, which leads me to the assumption that no one else has issues with watermarking videos. Grrrr... I may have to enlist the help of one of my tech guys, and just not tell him what the video is. :-P I'll update this thread if I get an answer.
UPDATE: Oops. I skipped a step in the program. For anyone interested, there are step-by-step instructions on a forum; I don't know if links are against the rules, so just Google "watermark a video" and it's the first result. I accidentally skipped a step, and that's why it wasn't working for me. It's currently running the program, and I have to wait to see if I was successful.
Re: How do I watermark a video?
When you say watermarking, do you just want to write your name in the video, or do you want to watermark with a logo? I am trying for the life of me to find a cheap/easy/efficient way to add LOGOS, but not too much luck yet (HINT HINT! ;-) ). However, if it's just your name/basic text you can simply do that with Windows Live Movie Maker, quickly and easily.

I also read on a couple sites that you can use MPEG Streamclip to watermark. I've used that program before for video converting, but not for watermarking.
Re: How do I watermark a video?
I used Windows Live Movie Maker to watermark with just text - write your name in as a caption, and you're good to go! You can even change the colour size opacity..
If you're doing it with a logo, you can put your logo into ManyCam.
Open ManyCam, go Effects, Add New Effect, select your logo, and save it as Watermark or something like that. Now you can insert that over your video feed.
To watermark with a logo, I open up ManyCam, and set Sources to my pre-video. Then open Windows Live Movie Maker, and go to Record Webcam. Click Record, then click Play on your ManyCam video. Once the video is finished playing, click Stop in Windows Live Movie Maker. Save it as whatever (doesn't matter), then you can edit your recorded watermarked video in Windows Live Movie Maker the same as any other video!
I know it sounds a little complicated but I promise it really isn't! I'm completely tech-retarded and I do it for all my videos!
**NOTE: Using the ManyCam/WindowsLiveMovieMaker method for logo watermarking SUCKS ASS if you have an HD 1080p cam... your video quality drops to like fuck all.** <-- found this out the hard way.. so I got one of my guys to send me Adobe CS6 ;) It works for 640x480 really well though, which is what my older videos are.
Re: How do I watermark a video?
I've tried inserting the caption, but it only stays for a few frames then goes away. I've tried to keep inserting it, but it's kind of weird to have it appearing and re-appearing throughout the video. I don't want it to be annoying to the guys.
Anyone know how to get the caption on to the whole video? I've tried highlighting all the frames and that doesn't work.
Re: How do I watermark a video?
Never mind. I was up until 2am recording clips, so I think my brain is a bit fried.
I won't delete my question though in case someone else has the same one.
Answer:
Once you type in the caption text you need to change the text duration to match the length of the video.
