Blocking out address on ID?
Okay, so I've been reading about safety of being a cam girl on here, and I know it's a general consensus on here that uploading an ID with an address on it to sign up for a camsite is a no-no. Unfortunately, I don't have a passport or any other sort of acceptable ID that doesn't show an address on it. I was wondering if I could just upload my ID, but block out my address on it with tape or something. Or use an editing program to just black out my address. Don't want my address to get out there or any creeps finding me! :-\
Re: Blocking out address on ID?
if you don't trust the cam site in question, dont use them. i reckon if someone were really determined they could find out where you live, those are the people you need to be worried about, the psychos and stalkers, not businesses like cam sites.
Re: Blocking out address on ID?
I am having the same issue at the moment. I just signed up for MFC still waiting to get verified but was hoping they would not ask for a copy of my DL since my home address is on there.
Let me know if you find out and info around this and I will do the same.
Re: Blocking out address on ID?
IRS 1099 requirements include the camgirl's real name, real address, and real social security number ... if she is applying to work as an independent contractor ( as opposed to an LLC or S-Corp where a company name and company address can be used instead ).
US Section 2257 requirements include the camgirl's real name, real address, real age, and real social security number ... regardless of the structure of her business.
Re: Blocking out address on ID?
Can you use a PO BOX for an address if its on your DL?
Re: Blocking out address on ID?
Depends on the state. Some states will allow PO Boxes on a DL and some do not.
Re: Blocking out address on ID?
Any good camsite is going to require a form of ID for age verification, and like Melonie said, it's a requirement for the forms. That's why we research and discuss each and every potential site; it's not just our potential earnings on the line, it's our personal info if that site turns out to be a scam. If you don't trust the site, then don't sign up; stick with sites that are known and respected. If you check out the Beginner's Guide to Camming (I think that's what it's called) thread that is stickied in CC, then you'll find links to the trusted sites.
I wouldn't expect a site to accept an ID photo that has had the address blurred or blacked out. You're going to be required to give your address anyway on the Model Agreement for most sites.

I know for a fact they're going to ask for a form of ID of some sort, and I know a passport is usually always an accepted form of ID which doesn't show your address. Too bad I don't have one. :(

Hmmm, okay. I was just going to use my ID with a PO box on it, but I'm not sure if Connecticut does it or not, and I'm not to fond of sitting at the DMV waiting in those long lines (Blech!) just for a new copy of an ID if I already had one. I just read in the Safety Guide for Camgirls thread that's stickied in CC that it would be safer to use a passport or something that doesn't have your ID on it. I plan on signing up on SM and MGF btw. I know those are pretty trusted...
Re: Blocking out address on ID?
If you've already got a passport, then that's an acceptable form of ID. I'm just saying that I'm pretty sure most of the Model Agreement forms require an address, so I don't really see the point in hiding it on an ID.
Re: Blocking out address on ID?
^^^ yes the Model Agreement terms are driven by US federal law Section 2257 which requires all internet 'adult content' providers who access American 'customers' to maintain a file of 'proof of age' info for all 'models' appearing on their website. Requirements for the compliance file's contents specifically states model's real name, real address, real age etc.
Re: Blocking out address on ID?
Part of the reason pornlaw intially suggested people use a passport to signup for sites is that all of that info is saved if your content is resold. The address that you manually submit so you receive checks at the right location - no, the rest of the 2257 info (ID, contract), yes. A state ID provides extra info.
So, Im a reseller so I have a bunch of people's IDs and contracts that theyve signed - bc when you buy licensed content you usually get a zip file of the performer's 2257 info. If I were a creepy person, the ones who didnt use their passport, I have more information on then those who have submitted their passport.
It is just a privacy precaution not a "never ever ever use your US state ID" but "if you can avoid it, avoid it', if you cant, you cant. This has come up before, Id strongly suggest rereading the thread where this originally came up:

Re: Blocking out address on ID?
Thank you Ladies for all the useful info. I had to renew my DL anyways since my B-DAY is next week. I had my P.O Box address on my DL so I am going to be using that address for everything now.
I rather not give out my home address if I really don't have to. :)

Hmmmm, okay. Now it's making more sense to me. I knew I read about your ID getting passed around somewhere, just couldn't remember which thread I got it from. But okay, I think I'll have to bare the hell of the DMV for at least one day to get an ID with a PO Box on it. I'll just open the PO Box in a completely different town so they have no trace of where I am. A plus is if I make an Amazon wishlist I can get mail to the PO Box as well! Booo-yah! Lol.
Re: Blocking out address on ID?
You cant get a State ID with a PO Box as the address, but you can just get a PO Box for a wishlist ... now?
Re: Blocking out address on ID?
Exactly. That is what I did this afternoon. I did already have a P.O Box but they are always great to have just in case. Good Luck hope it all works out for you.

I'm confused by your question Roast. :/
Re: Blocking out address on ID?
I've scanned my photo ID (with my address on it) onto cam sites that I've applied for, and never really was all that concerned about it.
What I'm more concerned about is making sure that my photo ID is never visible on-screen when I'm live on cam (for example, when I'm digging through my purse to find my Carmex chapstick...lol). I always make sure that items in my room displaying my real name are never in the cam's view.

lol 100% understandable - on rereading my sentence was a piece of crap, sorry about that
Your state ID's address needs to be a residential address, like the physical ID needs to have a real address on it. The DMV wont process a PO Box as your stated address to give you a valid ID. Basically your ID cant look like:
Chanel Monai
PO Box 9199191
Everywhere, ZZ 00000
But if you wanted to just go and get a PO Box for wishlists you can do it with your regular ID. Like it is a separate process altogether because your real address isnt disclosed.
Uhhh I may be making less sense because you may know this already and Im misreading what you wrote
Re: Blocking out address on ID?
You could always change your legal address to a trusted male friend or family member's house--preferably someone who is big and scary. They will send you a replacement sticker in the mail, and you can change it back again anytime.
