Webcam problem or computer problem? In deep shit here.
I have a problem that started yesterday but I don't know if it's the computer or the webcam that's the problem, or which needs replaced.
I'll be logged on and camming then sporadically my stream just freezes, the red ring on my Logitech turns off, and I get a little pop up saying that I am using a 1.1 USB port and that performance would be higher if I moved it to a 2 USB port. It IS a 2 USB port! I have tried different ones and this is still happening. I think it's getting worse, as in the past hour it happened during a bloody private show and another time in freechat. Not feeling very confident camming with this going on.
Does anybody have any idea? xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Re: Webcam problem or computer problem? In deep shit here.
Try switching it to another port. Fortunately the 9000s are pretty cheap since newer models have come out so if that doesn't fix it, I'd try a new 9000. Save your receipt and you can always return it if you need to.
Re: Webcam problem or computer problem? In deep shit here.
It sounds like it might be an issue with the port on either the computer or the camera. Check it visually and see if everything looks ok. Then, like Laurie said, try a different port. On my old computer I had to use the ports on the back of the CPU instead of the front. Not all USB ports are created equal apparently.
Re: Webcam problem or computer problem? In deep shit here.
I randomly only have two USBs on this computer (my old one had 4 or more!) and this is happening with both. I just re-installed software and drivers in case that'll fix it, but I doubt it. I don't want to go and order a new webcam and it turns out that the laptop is actually screwed instead. I've currently got the Logitech software recording me just now to see if the updates have made a difference or if it'll stop again. x
Edited to add, it happened yesterday while I was using the software to record, so I assume it is as good a test as going back online.
Re: Webcam problem or computer problem? In deep shit here.
The USB ports are both at the front, however I have been using this cam and laptop for over a year like this, and this is the first that this has happened. *baffled*
Re: Webcam problem or computer problem? In deep shit here.
first things first, lets look at your laptop.
http://www.usbman.com/Guides/checking_for_usb_2.htm
control panel >> system.
click hardware tab
click on device manager
scroll down to universal serial bus controllers
entries marked enhances are usb2, if not, they are usb 1.1
For peace of mind, it’s more sensible to actually measure their transfer rates, which can be done quickly and easily by plugging in a suitable USB device and using a test utility such as HD Tune www.hdtune.com (the free version will suffice)
Plugging in any USB 2 flash drive will soon establish whether or not a particular USB port supports High‑speed USB: basically, any result over 1.5MB/s proves that that port has USB 2 High‑speed capability. I have an old 64MB USB stick that managed just a 0.9MB/s transfer rate and is therefore a USB 1.1 Full‑speed device (maximum transfer rate of 12Mbit/s, which converts to 1.5MByte/s). However, another generic 64MB stick sustained 8MB/s and was, therefore, a USB 2 High‑speed device (also proving that the port it was plugged into had USB 2 capability).
if these unearth a problem ten thats the first thing to have a look at fixing.

Thank you for taking the time to write all that for me!
I downloaded that programme. Should I be looking at this part? xx
Re: Webcam problem or computer problem? In deep shit here.
i think what you need to do is plug in an external hd or flash drive into the port, then run this program.
Re: Webcam problem or computer problem? In deep shit here.
if you are running a logitech webcam, i spotted someone else with similar problem when googling. if you contact logitech help http://www.logitech.com/contact they will help you

Re: Webcam problem or computer problem? In deep shit here.
I plugged in my external hard drive. With the first usb port (closest to me) I got:
Attachment 31298
The one next to it gave me this:
Attachment 31299
I'm not sure of any of that is good or bad! I'm a retard with computers. :-S
Do you think that it's the webcam rather than the computer? I'll have a look at logitech support now too. Thank you Beckie. xx
Re: Webcam problem or computer problem? In deep shit here.
is the toshiba 320gb your external drive i presume? the numbers look ok, perhaps it is the cam. did you also check the usb ports in devie manager to see if any issues with them at all?

Re: Webcam problem or computer problem? In deep shit here.
Oh, I told you I'm a complete moron... This time I used the drop down thing menu to find HDrive :O
port 1:Attachment 31300 port 2: Attachment 31301
As for the other stuff, I tried it with the webcam in both ports, to be told that the USB ports were 'enhanced' and were working at 'high speed' and that the device was 'working properly'.
I did also reinstall the Logitech software earlier. The cam didn't stop working when I recorded with the software after that (had it recording for over 30 min), but I haven't tried camming which may be another matter.
Re: Webcam problem or computer problem? In deep shit here.
lol, computers can be a right mystery, dont worry.
if anything its annoying isnt it, if it had found a problem, you could then go "aha, i'll get it sorted" but instead it appears all is ok. im out of ideas i'm afraid, other than see if it happens again. worth still raising a tkt with logitech i reckon. also check that the software you put on has the latest drivers for the machine you have.
Re: Webcam problem or computer problem? In deep shit here.
Thank you Bekie, you've been very helpful and at least I've learned something today! :-)
If it happens again tomorrow I'll contact Logitech. Put me right off camming, doing clips today instead.
Thanks a lot though, I owe you a beer. xxxxxxxx :-*
Re: Webcam problem or computer problem? In deep shit here.
I had a somewhat similar issue with my Logitech.. at first I just though my ports were gone. One day I got the message to plug it in a 2.0 port as well and the cam kept disconnecting and reconnecting all day. Finally, it wouldn't connect or register at all. To make sure if it was the cam or my computer I did a few simple tests and solutions. Did a diagnostic (nothing), re-installed it a few times (nope), tried it in my other ports, plugged other things in my usb port to see if they registered(they did), plugged my cam into someone elses computer (didn't work aha!) I check online for solution but nada...just a lemon of a webcam.
Had to buy a new webcam, but thank goodness not another computer. Hope my simple steps and solutions help you or anyone that comes across this issue.
Re: Webcam problem or computer problem? In deep shit here.
Amazing! You are confirming that it's the webcam. Phew! I have a new webcam being delivered tomorrow! Yay! Well, I won't be completely happy though until its plugged in and working! I don't want to get a new computer especially as I'm still paying for the current one. :-S
Re: Webcam problem or computer problem? In deep shit here.
My new C910 arrived today. I haven't cammed as I have been doing clips, but this webcam has been plugged in this whole time, and the computer hasn't made any snide remarks at me so far! :-D So hopefully that's that resolved. I'll let you know tomorrow when I cam!
PS: When I went from a built in cam to the Logi Pro 9000 I thought 'wow, so much clearer, you can see every spot and wrinkle, etc" then I got used to it. The C910's picture quality is even more perfect - wowzers.
