Wow.. my ex boyfriend from high school charged with attempted murder and rape
so sketched out. I broke up with him in 2008 the summer before I went to college. our relationship was fine but he had a fucked up family life, and a father who was a sexual offender but not in his life. I found out about him being charged with attempted murder and rape because he wrote a letter to my parents from jail. he attacked a jogger, dragged her into the woods, strangled her unconscious, then raped her, leaving her for dead. so horrible. and i googled for more info and it shows hes been convicted of other sexual crimes, such as indecent exposure, harassing women, etc since 2010.
so fucked up. he's sentenced to 20 years in jail but i'm scared. what if he comes after me when he gets out. or what if he gets out early. thank god they caught him and put him in prison. he pleaded guilty. and i'm scared and confused as why he reached out to my parents. they basically helped to "raise" him and paid for his SAT tests and college apps to help him get into college. in the letter he said that he was sorry that he basically threw everything away that he had tried to teach them. my parents want to write back but i think that is a BAD idea. i don't want him to get a false sense of support in any way shape or form from us. NOT going to happen.
he had never been violent to me ever for the year and a half we were together. when we broke up he seemed to lose it. i felt bad but i followed my instincts, cutting all ties and blocking him on fb, completely cutting him out of my life. thank god i did.
blah :/ sorry not sure what kind of advice or reply i'm looking for here just so shocked and scared yet grateful this poor woman didn't die and that he is in jail now. just so fucked up.

I agree with you that it's a bad idea for your parents to write back to him. If you have any concerns about your safety in the future, maybe you can talk to the prosecutor or judge in the case, and let him know of your concerns.

When youre sitting in jail there isnt much to do except reflect back on your life and write letters to those in your past...
I do agree its probably best for your parents to not respond, but if they do want to respond in a personal way, perhaps they should run it by a therapist first? Because clearly the guys got issues and you wouldnt want them sending him anything worded in a way that would set him off.. Otherwise a plain non personal statement of 'please do not contact us again-thank you.' should suffice. If it does not and he writes again, your parents would need to contact the prison- explain to them whats going on, tell them they do not wish to receive mail from him, send them a copy of the statement they sent him, and the prison mail system will remove any outgoing letters from him with their name and address on them.
Its great he was sentenced for 20 years, but sadly hes probably not going to serve 20 years unless he was sentenced to a mental health facility. Most prisoners (depending on what state youre in) end up serving around 40-80% of the sentence. Because you and your family were not involved in the case, you will not be notified of his potential early release.

Just wow. Thank God you got the fuck away from him.

Annabellz he is in jail in Massachusetts. My parents are still insisting to write him back and are just going to say to him that he is in jail for his actions and his actions changed his life, but that also means he can take that time in jail to change his future actions and be a better person. I will tell them to talk to a therapist though, that is a good idea.
Re: Wow.. my ex boyfriend from high school charged with attempted murder and rape
Its really hard to know exactly how much time someone will serve, sentences can be reduced or extended. Massachusetts seems to be on the higher end of the scale. So providing he doesn't get into any trouble, and is able to impress the parole board he may be released in around 10-15years?
And yes definitely try to urge them to consulate with a professional who treats sex offenders. It may cost them 100-200 bucks but IMO its a worthwhile investment if they care about him.

Wow, isn't it horrifying how much people can change? That is frightening and heartbreaking. The poor victims. And I wouldn't be surprised if he too was groomed and victimized. Horrible decisions and he's torched his life and become a monster.
