Starting a new cam site... tips?
Hey guys,
me and my team are planning on starting up a cam site. Yes, I know the industry is saturated and I know its definitely not as easy as it seems but I feel I have a group of people around me that help me succeed. I have an amazing tech team so I’m not worried about that..
Obviously the main things I have to worry about are
- Attracting traffic/ hits/ customers
- Keeping my employees happy
The reason for me posting here would obviously be number 2, I want to create a site where the employees (possibly some of you? ;D ) don’t feel ripped off or abused as I see in countless threads across the web .. Now obviously the industry is so shallow I bet you guys have heard this a million times but if you guys could be so kind as to give me some tips on what you guys really want it could give me some food for thought… Basically right now my starting point is a 50/50 paysplit with weekly cashouts…Right now I’m scouring the web trying to get input from the people who really know their stuff (you guys!) I’m posting this on a few forums to try and get as much feedback as possible so please don’t mistake this for any type of spam… thanks again!

Re: Starting a new cam site... tips?
there are alreayd sites that offer better than 50/50.
whats your usp. why you and not aw, stream mate, any other cam site?
as youve recognised the industry is saturated, so you're going for a slice of the pie ie taking business off other cam sites? whats your strategy for doing that
OR
are you planning something so niche that its a brand new pie, and you own all of it?
if you only survey forums generally you will mostly find moans and groans from ppl, the vast majority of ppl are happy with services provided. if they werent, imagine how busy stripperweb would be if every single cammer from live jasmin, stream mate, aw all piled in and moaned.

Re: Starting a new cam site... tips?
Honestly it will take a small miracle to have enough traffic to sustain a site.
If you had PAYING traffic and paid weekly at a 50% cut I'd be there in a heartbeat.
That's a big if. There are really only a few sites that have a good amount of registered members who have money to spend.
-
Re: Starting a new cam site... tips?
Thanks for the input guys... we don't have a specific niche in mind, but that's something to think about
As for traffic, its a given that we need to get paying traffic in order to attract the best models.... I'm sure tons of people try this and fail every day/month/year but I guess its a good chance for our team to see what we're made of :)
-
Re: Starting a new cam site... tips?
My tip for starting a new cam site - don't start a new cam site.
I just saved you thousands. You're welcome. :)
-
Re: Starting a new cam site... tips?
Sarah, thanks for the input... appreciate it
As I stated, we know its a tough industry and also a hard market to penetrate but we are going to try our best. We are listening to feedback from the members here to try and create something that is positive for everyone.
If you were a newbie at camming and came on here to ask the fellow cam girls what it takes to be a great cam girl and the reply was- don't be a cam girl I just saved you tons of wasted hours talking to degenerates
I'm sure you would still try :)

Ahh, but you see if I was a new cam girl... WHEN I was a new cam girl back in the day... I did not/would not have come to other cam girls asking how to make it as a great cam girl.
Why would you want to throw money into an already over saturated industry? Have you read around here to see how many new cam sites have popped up over just the last year, last few months, and have already failed miserably? All of them thought they would be the different one, the one that works, the one that does it right.... none of them have.
Good luck to you.

Re: Starting a new cam site... tips?
Sarah I guess we can agree to disagree
Personally, I'm not too fond of someone saying I "can't" do something that I think I can. Without constant competition there would never be innovation
All I can do is try my best and if I fail I can goto sleep at night knowing I put my best effort in and know that wasn't enough
Thanks for your feedback

Re: Starting a new cam site... tips?
Here are the things that I'd look for in a site as a webcam model:
- an abundance of high quality paying traffic at all times of day/night
- 50% minimum payout, with no chargebacks
- weekly payment with multiple payout options, including ACH and payoneer
- the ability to see whether or not members have money in their account, and if so, how much
- the ability to ban and report rude members and guests
- no minimum payout
I personally think the most important thing on the list is lots of high quality paying members. Which, as a new site.... How would you go about getting them? You need lots of models in order to attract viewers, but you need lots of viewers to attract models, so...? It kind of sounds like a catch-22. Good luck, though.

Re: Starting a new cam site... tips?
Why are you referring to potential cam girls working on your site as employees? Would cam girls working on a site of yours be employees of your company?
You do realize that employees and contractors are not interchangeable terms, right?
Do you have any prior experience in the adult industry?

Hey Courtney
From your list obviously we cannot guarantee the first point for launch (an abundance of high quality paying traffic at all times of day/night)
But all the other things you have listed are features on our site with the exception being no minimum payout as that would need to be discussed with the partners
Obviously we understand your concerns about traffic and that is our biggest concern as well, which is what we are working on tirelessly.
Thank you very much for the feedback

Sarah,
That was a miscommunication on my part. I understand performers would obviously not want to be locked into any one site as an employee and have the freedom to roam.
As for experience in the adult industry, No I personally do not have any experience but am part of a team that has a strong background in the adult industry or else I would not feel as comfortable as I am that we would have a chance to compete.

So your team has a strong background in the adult industry, strong enough to compete with the huge cam sites, and strong enough to get good paying traffic? Who is behind this new site then? Who is the "team"?
I really don't think you are going to answer that, but either way, good luck with it. Be sure to come back and let us all know when/if your site is up and running.

Re: Starting a new cam site... tips?
Hey guys,
Not really here to advertise for me or my team. Was genuinely trying to get feedback from members...
I did achieve some of that from this thread but also reading through a lot of threads on SW and other sites have helped me
Thanks for the well wishes
-
Re: Starting a new cam site... tips?
I hate how the information regarding this "team" and why this "team" will launch a successful site with someone who has no experience in the adult industry.
I can honestly say that unless I can get some information on this "team" I will have no interest in this site. I don't join new sites (actually considered joining one until they began to spam the forums) unless I can get some information on why this site should be expected to succeed.
Your only reasonable expectation to succeed is your "team".
Your "team" that you've been ASKED ABOUT and have not shared the information regarding. Even being vague would look better than just simply refusing to answer. Maybe it wouldn't, but I seem to think it might.

We aren't asking you to advertise, although when/if your site is launched I think you would feel differently about advertising to a forum full of cam girls.
I'm just asking who your "team" is since you seem to think they are large enough to compete and gain enough traffic to have a site worth talking about. I also like to know who it is that I'm offering up "tips" to.
And I also do not think for one second that any "team" familiar with the adult industry would be on a stripper/cam girl forum asking for tips on what is wanted/needed in a successful cam site. Or asking what rates/percentages/cuts porn stars are asking for on cam sites these days.

Re: Starting a new cam site... tips?
RonJo,
I feel kind of bad about the ridicule you've been attracting. But it's a predictable reaction from girls who regularly see new sites pop up only to crash and burn a few months later.
Here is an honest opinion from a seasoned cam girl:
The only thing I care about, when assessing a new camsite, is: Can I make more money here, than I did with whatever I was using before?
If the answer is YES, I will move to the new place. If the answer is NO, the new site will not get any attention from me.
Simple as that.
Everyone is selfish. The only thing *I* care about, is the balance in my bank account at the end of the day.
For what it's worth, I think part of the equation lies in the procurement of quality viewers. Do you know how to bring quality viewers to your platform? I will tell you: Have your camgirls bring them there. How? Offer them 100% of what the viewers that they refer spend on them, PLUS a referral bonus. This is what a couple of the existing camsites do, and unless you do AT LEAST AS MUCH or more, you will not win this business.
Your thoughts?

Re: Starting a new cam site... tips?
Hey,
You guys are all definitely entitled to your own opinions. I can say that what I post on SW is my own personal thought and has nothing to do with anyone else on my team's expertise. I personally wanted to do some research and I figured this was a good site to do that. Just because people on my "team" have a way of doing things doesn't mean I can't come on SW and ask for peoples opinions does it?
I don't feel there is a need for me to say who my team is or what my site is before it even launches. I might not have experience in the adult industry but I know the forum industry and when someone comes on forums promoting their product or team before it's even launched, they are usually full of shit or spamming. We are not a mega company where we can come in and name drop and have instant forum credibility
That's why that's not the direction we want to go in. When our site launches and if/when we are having success I have no problem coming back on SW and do an official thread for our site (if that is allowed) and answer any questions any of you have about my team or their expertise.
I came on here politely asking some questions... If you guys want to troll or hate on me then that's fine.
From the beginning I didn't come on here bragging me or my team were going to be successful. My stance the whole time was that we were going to put in a good effort to try and build a good site. I mean from the onset I never even said we would make a successful site I said we were going to TRY and asked if you guys have any tips
Anyways, I don't feel there is a need to continue this thread as it's not going in the right direction.
Thanks to all who took the time to write a constructive response

Same for me. If I'm not going to make more money than I do on the site that I'm currently on, I'm not moving sites. I think most successful cam girls would feel the same way. It takes a long time for a site to gain the momentum, popularity, traffic, money making potential, etc. as a site such as Stremate or MFC. They didn't just come out of the box like that. It will take a LONG time to get the serious money making girls to move sites or pay attention to a new one. We have learned not to trust a site until they are very, very well established.

There hasn't been any "trolling" or "hating" going on here. When some random person comes on here talking about opening up YET ANOTHER new cam site, we are going to ask some tough questions. If you had spent some time reading this forum BEFORE you came out asking for help with your new cam site, you would see that we ask the same types of questions to all of the posters who come on here trying to get us to join their new site, or give out tips on how to make their site work.
Camming is OUR industry. And quite frankly I think most of us are sick of people trying to come in and start up "the next big thing" only to find us a few months later stuck trying to be paid from a site that has tanked and taken our money along with it. It hasn't happened to me personally because I refuse to work on "new" sites, but it has happened to MANY girls here. Have a peek in Camming Connection some time and you will see.

You are certainly under no obligation to reveal who your 'team' is, RonJo.
Now I guess you know you will face some tough questions from women who have had bad experiences with new startup webcam sites.

He is not required to share this information, since his thread is merely asking for what women might look for in a new webcam site, and is not an advertisement for you to join the site. So chill on demanding information that isn't any of your business yet. When he starts advertising or inviting you to join his new site (if he still wants to start it), then you can ask him to share that information.

Re: Starting a new cam site... tips?
GOOD LUCK!
I have a friend who was looking into opening a new cam site under a year ago. He decided not to and his reasons where simple
Streamate....
It scared him bc he did investigation and between them and MFC he didn't see where he would benefit.
IMHO.... A niche site would work if that NICHE is untouched

Re: Starting a new cam site... tips?
Yeah the big corporate webcam sites seem to have the market cornered, as far as I can tell.
Sadly, it seems like it could more easily be said that it is THEIR industry. I am betting that it is almost all guys who own them, too. Just like the stripclubs. I'd really like to see more women getting involved in the ownership and management of both stripclubs and webcam/adult sites.

I say "our" because without cam girls, he has no site. None of them do.
And sure, they are the ones providing us with a platform to do our jobs, that's great. I love Streamate, they have been around a long time and they are reliable.
I guess my issue is related to what you said, these MEN (btw, no man issues here, love em, just sayin) come around and see that all of us women are making this money and they want a piece of it. What's a "quick and easy" way to get a slice of the pie? Start up a cam site, or more frequently a studio.
