Just a quick question - I was able to find threads regarding the pink lighting but not what type of pink? Is it the pastel pink soft bulbs or the bright darker magenta colored bulbs?
Any help is appreciated ;)
Thanks!

Hey! I used to work at Lowe's and helped many pretty girls who came in looking for pink light bulbs lol. I called it 'mood lighting'. Neither of those lights are going to give you the pink light you're looking for, however. Even though the Mood Lites 60W looks like it might be a pale pink, it's actually very dark and looks more like party lighting. I use and recommend the Sylvania incandescent bulbs: http://www.amazon.com/Soft-Pink-Inca...bulbs+sylvania

These are great and give the skin an even, warm glow. Hope this helps.
i got the pink bulbs, the pastel pink 1s and they made me look orange, like bad fake tan or something. i bought bright white 1s instead and then i got an empty plastic milk cartoon (uk style) cut it in half and cellotape it over the front of the bulb (amount 2 inches away from the direct bulb) it diffuses the light and makes me look nicer.
We got some pretty decent results with two 5$ paper ball round lanterns. One is pinkish red the other is pure white they are mounted on custom floor standers with height adjustment and are put closer or further until it looks perfect, or at least IMO perfect :) It gives a nice diffuse light and the white paper lantern is our "color balance" that we move back and forward until it gives the skin a great natural tan but I am a pale girl you will have to experiment for yourself with the colors. The 5$ ball frame is all you need if the paper is not the right color you can buy your own and just glue it on. 3 foot floor standing tube lamps are coming soon also made out of paper to see if they will give better light than the ceiling ball lanterns on mounts.
As somebody above said its very important to have diffused light and this does a great job.
i just wanted to say that the soft pink bulbs blkschoolgirl suggested mixed with the daylight bulbs look amazing!
i have 2 soft pink bulbs in my ceiling lights and i have the day light bulbs (2) in the tall walmart lamp in front of me (left side behind cam) and i have 1 day light bulb in the lamp off the right side behind me. i have a very small weird shaped room and this set up with the mixed bulbs makes my room bright (without the hotness) and visible while still flattering me and my background.
i think i have found the perfect combo for myself without shelling out all the $$$$$ on pro setups that are not even guaranteed to work for me.
I'm so glad that works for you. I do the same thing, two daylight bulbs and one of the pink. I diffused the daylight bulbs with some thin shirts I bought from Forever 21 for like $2. I've gone from scrambling around and obsessing about lighting every single day to having the perfect set up. It really does make everything a lot less stressful.
bgb, I also agree about the pro setup. I'm not knocking them, but I don't think they're necessary to get good, bright lighting. I had an umbrella style set up for a brief moment and it was a pain. A few well placed lamps and cam tweaks work just as well and even better.
I reall love the idea of pastel pink I think it's really pretty but I think the darker one is more sensual. Like the other girls were saying I think you need to consider how the lighting will affect your skin tone and also the lighting and color of the room you'll be in :)
I haven't tried pink light yet. I'm gonna have to do that. I have those aluminum light cones that clip on, like what you would see in a garage. Those are clipped to things like a tripod. I have the open ends covered with half sheets of printer paper. The only problem I have is that they get hot really fast, so camming in the summer was awful. But I just don't like the way natural light makes me look. It makes me teeth look really white, but it makes my skin look blue.
^ you're complexion must consist of bluish undertones then, i think the pink might help balance that out. i know i have alot red undertones. it still looked great with just the daylight bulbs but with pink, it evens out the tones for me. if that makes sense?
Attachment 32095 I experimented with pink without getting pink bulbs and I might again but I remember I was not really a fan of it..
what I did was I hanged a pink see through scarf over my day light bulb lamp....
because they are energy saving they dont heat up much so the scarf will not burn , it was pretty close to the bulb too...
if you have a lamp with a cone bigger than the bulb
you can pretty much hang or tie any color scarf over the lamp
( assuming the cone of the lamp and the lamp itself is FLEXIBLE..
you can turn it towards you so that the pink light will goes in your direction......
I finally bought pink bulbs yesterday & love them! I had massive razor burn on my bikini area & was paranoid about it. I recorded a video of the area close up & further away so I could get a good look at what the customers would see. Lol I know it sounds silly but I can sit close to the monitor & really look at myself like a customer when I record. It helps me know how far away to stay from the camera to hide what I need to hide:) my skin looked perfect! Even in an extreme close up. I just gathered different lamps from around the house. I use three & I've spent less than $10 on lighting so far. I have one behind, & one on each side of the cam & an overhead light directly above me. One has a pink bulb, & the other 2 are daylight bulbs. I have horrible skin & guys were commenting on how perfect my skin was all night! I was just born perfect lol. If they only knew. My stretch marks also disappeared. & I think maybe one more lamp & my cellulite will be invisible. I seriously want to walk around irl with a pink bulb shining on me all day.
are you sure you were using the right pink? i know the pink that comes off of these bulbs don't look like a "pink" lighting. it is more like a light neutral salmon color. i dont think you will know for sure if you will like them or not if you don't try the bulb itself. the kind of light that radiates from these bulbs, i don't think you can re-make with out using the actual bulb itself to really know for sure. you might wanna think about that fridays.

The room I'm camming from has yellow walls and I end up looking really yellow---everything looks yellow. I got rid of the soft white bulbs in favor of natural light and it looks better but not great. Do y'all think that the pink bulbs might counteract the yellow walls? Or anything else that might? I considered getting the pink bulbs at Walmart when I picked up the clear ones but I was worried it would make everything look orange or something (ya know, pink + yellow= weird orange?)
^^^ I had a similar issue - my walls are creamy, and at night, everything was yellow.
Daylight bulbs pretty much fixed that issue for me (that, and playing with the white balance on my cam settings).
I would wonder if the pink might combine with yellow in a weird way....from a straight-up color perspective, blue should counteract the yellow (which is why the daylight bulbs, with a blue-ish tint, work well)....maybe get a blue bulb and a pink one, and play around?
All my stuff looks so yellow/orange but.... I kinda like it. Makes my super pale skin look tan haha :)
all you can do is experiment. customization is what works for everyone, so play around and see. buy what you think might work and if it doesn't you can return it. it certainly doesn't hurt to see that's for sure.
for me, the cam settings didn't do shit, no matter what i tried (i have a logitech 9000). it was when i took suggestions and played around for myself. not sure if it will contrast or make it look worse, it might depend on the shade you use too.
Someone mentioned in another thread using the florescent spiral bulbs in 'Daylight'. I tried these and found that they seemed to drain the color from my skin so I went back to using my old cheap, half worn-out bulbs (spiral bulbs) that came in a cheap mega-pack. I don't remember what color of light they are advertises as but they are the most popular bulbs sold, they make me look tan all over and give me the right amount of color. I have tried to avoid incandescent bulbs because I share the electricity with someone.
I'm bumping some old threads that can be pretty useful. I see a lot of camrooms that are working with tungsten lighting. This video can help fix that. Also pink bulbs are great especially if you use on of those 5 bulb lamps with the pink shades on them. They cost $30 with the bulbs. You don't always need professional lighting to make it look nice. It helps but...

I just realized that I posted the wrong video. This one talks about tungsten lighting
