Need help with what computer to buy! My current laptop can't handle the encoder...
I've tried everything! I've tried to tweak settings. My laptop is running the bare minimum and I only have one browser and the encoder open. As soon as I run the encoder my CPU is between 80% and shoots up to 100% then back down to 80%.
Currently I have a Toshiba Satellite running an AMD Trurion II P540 - Dual Core Processer 2.40ghz, 4GB ram, 64bit operating system. Should it be able to handle the encoder?
Anyways, I'm on a very tight budget and am going to HSN route because they offer Flexpay. Apparently they don't pull your credit score either so this is the only option that will work for me right now. I really want an i7 and was at Bestbuy today they had a few in the $700 range but I just don't have that up front. Unfortunately it looks like I will overpay for a lesser system on HSN.
So, do you think this will handle the encoder? Will I be able to split with this machines?

I am a total tard when it comes to electronics. Are there are processors other than the i5 and i7 that I could look at to save some $?
thanks!

The options I listed are under your budget, so my opinion is that you can acqurie it now if you wish. Just make some accounting and if it's worth it, go or it :)
Hang in there a bit, save up a bit more and buy one of the laptops from the egg. That's what I would do.

I'd shy away from Toshiba laptops in general. They're poorly made. Honestly, the inexpensive Dells in the $300-$400 range are actually really good machines. I liked my $300 Dell more than my current laptop, a Lenovo, that cost $800. My Lenovo has a bit more RAM, and it is a little faster, but my Dell never had problems running Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop (sometimes at the same time) so I imagine it could deal with an encoder.
Good luck! NewEgg has good stuff, and really good prices.
