Hopefully, this will encourage people. There is a school I know of where I live and someone in a high up administrative position used to model for Playboy. One positive example of progressing in other careers after camming.
On a serious note:
According to everything I have personally seen, the experiences of my friends/acquaintances, and the advice of my tax professional, the bottom line can pretty much be summed up as:
They won't know, unless you tell them.
Other people will chime in to disagree with me vehemently and tell you that your entire future is doomed in 3.....2......1......
It's really on a case by case basis. If you are open about it, people who know you know you are doing it, if you actually list it as a profession then it might keep you from teaching. You probably can't be President.
Look, the Mayor of my town was caught cheating on his wife with another woman, red handed, we all knew, he became mayor years after. A friend of mine stripped and she's a nurse. It really depends on how deep someone looks and if they actually CARE. If you don't list it on your application, chances are they won't ever know. Very few employers do an employer background check. It's usually a criminal background check and drug screen. High level government jobs do that sort of thing.
Legally they can't discriminate. So then it's up to the individual hiring or if the corporation has some sort of unsaid understanding that it's not to hire someone who has worked in the adult industry. I once worked for a large adult store. We were retail only so I did nothing all day but put out stock and run a cash register. It's just that I sold sex toys and videos, big deal. So I actually put that on an application and I was hired to substitute teach and nobody said a word. Again...it's still "adult" of course I didn't put dancer or performer, I put clerk.
And still even with that, I applied for a job sort of in my field. The hiring process is that two out of three managers have to approve an applicant or they can't be hired. Two of the three managers approved me based on the fact I worked at the adult book store as it told them I wasn't a prude and would probably get along better with the people there. One manager said no, she was a church lady and she thought the people at the adult book store in our town stripped. I actually had her ask me if I was a dancer there and after explaining it to her, she was a bit less apprehensive but I think it took her about a year to finally see me as a decent person, all because I sold dildo's.
So really, I wouldn't sweat it unless I was a big time internet porn star or if you could google my REAL name and find pictures and videos of me out there. Like Jessica said...they won't know, unless you tell them.
Or, get outed. There is always the risk of that. Efuckt has a video of a teacher who was found out about her porn past from one of her students, then it was spread around school. Public upset forced the school board to fire her.
But I think as long as you hadn't listed anything adult related on your taxes/as your employer they just wouldn't know and you would be fine.

Amberose there was a girl on here who went on to do a physical therapy program, maybe you can message her and see if she has had any problems. OT's are highly in demand for geriatrics and nursing homes I don't think you'd have a problem, but that's my opinion. There's so much competition getting into OT programs (accepting 30 applicants out of 500) that there won't be an influx of OT's who can't find jobs upon graduation and the demand for them should stay high.
I wholeheartedly agree with the 'they wont know unless you tell them' bit but would expand it to include 'or unless they find out by other means as well'.
If youve been filing your taxes properly and the job includes an in depth background check in which pulling your tax returns is part of it- you will be found out. Perhaps a private run company may be more forgiving then a government run one. It would depend on who is in charge. But like its been mentioned right now there are so many people currently seeking employment, and very few available jobs.
It would impossible to sit here and list every profession and the background check requirements for each. Find something youre interested in and do the research. A quick google search should tell you what kind of schooling is required and a job search will help you determine what kind of background checks are done for that profession and if the jobs are mostly government or private sector jobs.
As an employer anything that comes up questionable on a potential applicants application is going to cause it to go right in the trash no matter how stellar the rest of the application looks because they have a whole stack of other potential applicants to choose from.
I know the medical background check does not pose any issues. They do a live state law enforcement check which is a check for criminal activity only. As far as looking into your background they legally can only contact the previous employer you authorized them to contact. You have to sign (usually just a fax sheet) one sheet per employer.
*As for banking. I suggest having SM (or whatever site you are on) send your money to Payoneer and have Nissem set up direct deposit. I do this because I do private contract nursing and it's not unusual for me to sign a nondisclosure agreement. I am not allowed to say who employed me but I can use one of their assistants as a reference and my bank records to show dates of employment.
If an employer checks your taxes they will tell you from the beginning and make you sign an agreement. It's usually just criminal/credit report checks. Not many are going to go looking through your taxes because most don't care where you used to work. You put where you used to work on your application, omit any jobs that you don't want on there and go from there. No employer except for high profile ones will care about your taxes. Why would they? Your credit report is enough to show if you are "worthy" of their position and whether or not you are a felon will show on the criminal check. They don't care what is on your taxes. They will call whoever you listed as your previous employers and ask these questions:
Did they work for you?
When was the start date?
When was the termination date?
Are they eligible for re hire?
That's IT. If anyone tries to say you were a lousy employee or whatever the employer checking is not supposed to listen. That's all they are typically allowed to ask. And you would know when applying for a job if they are going to dig things up on you because you would be looking for that type of job.
If you quit without giving a notice there's a bank where they report that though. A lot of corporations do this and they do check that before hiring you. If you are in there, they can choose to not hire you. My employer does that. And you guys do know that tax returns aren't public records so they have to get your permission to look at them.
Sometimes a credit check returns where you have worked before only if when applying for credit at some time YOU listed them as your employer. Otherwise, they are not on there.
Seriously, people are too paranoid about this "finding work after adult industry" stuff. You are more likely to not be hired after they see the things/photos on you facebook. And they DO check facebook.
Most people do morally detestable things in all work areas. How many people go out to a strip club after work? Or for drinks? It happens all the time. Office affairs, people working there used to be strippers. Employees having sex with the boss for perks. Nobody cares that someone used to do webcam work. They just want to know if you can do the job you are applying for. Teachers are an exception. Public officials are an exception. I can't tell you how many nurses I know that live in homes where someone sells drugs or the nurses themselves use drugs. The students I went to HS with who became nurses, seriously, I wouldn't take my worst enemy to them. So if they can get a job in nursing, anyone can.
This is what holds me back. I'm trying to go into the fashion journalism business after college (3 years left), and I dance now. Camming would fit into my scedule, and I could use the extra money, but I'm so scared of throwing away $100,000 or more on education because I cammed. :/
Fashion journalism? Really? You think VOGUE won't let you write for them because you masturbated on the Internet? Shit, I think they'd consider it an ASSET! :-P
(isn't everyone in fashion an ex-drug addict, or something?) (ok ok, maybe not, but geeeez...)
So yeah. Good on you for being conscientious, but count me among those who don't think you have much to worry about.
There have been mentions in the forum of some girls having SM or MFC show up on their credit report as employers.

There is also tons of useful info in this thread from March-

It won't show up on any background check. Since I've been camming I've been accepted to nursing school, (a religous private school nonetheless), and got a highly competitive internship at a hospital. Both required intensive background checks and I had no issues with either one. Oh and I forgot to add I had a stripping license a year prior.
I have wondered what would happen I decided to jack it all in, hang up my dildos and become a kindergarten teacher. I've always loved kids.
I have no idea whether this would be seen as wildly inappropriate.
I guess it would only matter if like...one of the kids dad's recognised me.
Other than that, my career aspirations are pretty much like
- become a dance teacher (for adult beginners) which I'm training for now
- carry on being a fitness and nutrition trainer
- become a world renowned choreographer (i dream big)
- release an album and become a FAMOUS MUSICIAN (see told you about the dreaming big)
All of these things I would be pretty much fine with carrying on being in the sex industry with, and I dont think I'd have many problems. Well apart from the whole getting famous and getting sex videos of me plastered all over the tabloids. But if it did happen I'd just brush it off as party of my zany creative artistic personality and stuff. ;) Also, the chances of me getting famous are not that likely.
But I still would like to be a kindergarten teacher. Maybe.
Employers can only show up on credit reports if they were reported as an employer by the person with whom the credit report is detailing.
This is actually information found on one of the three credit reporting sites. I know for a fact because I read it there. So if you go apply for a loan, if you say I work for "so and so" or if you apply for a credit card, whatever if you say who your employer is then they will submit that with your credit check. The credit reporting company will then list it on your report. Taxes are not connected to a credit report either. And even if it showed on your taxes, who is tosay you didn't do customer service with them? ?
The majority of us are not important enough people for someone to spend excessive amounts of time looking for porno videos or pictures of us online after obtaining our tax paperwork that we have to OK in order for them to get. A kindergarten teacher? If you wan to teach, teach. Just because one or two teachers here and there are found out does not mean we all will be. If you compare the number of teachers found out to the number of teachers camming, and then calculate a probability percentage, the chances are low that you would ever be found out. Don't let camming or stripping stop you from getting an education. Like I said, I worked for an adult store and I got hired to substitute teach. In fact, in two weeks I'm teaching a bunch of fifth graders at the local school the importance of staying in school.
Besides, I sold barely legal boxed sets to one of the board members all the time where I used to work. LOL If anything the people in my town know I smoke weed or have. That hasn't even kept me from substitute teaching! The superintendent was my principal back in the day and caught me and some other kids smoking weed once and gave us a good talking to. So really, I think people are overreacting.
Anecdotal evidence would tend to contradict this ! Indeed 'StreaMates' has shown up in the 'employer' field of some girls' credit reports without any information being provided by the girls. The most likely cause is a repeating pattern of checks being cashed ... which was picked up on by bank employees under their 'suspicious activity reporting' mandate and passed on to the credit reporting agencies. I agr ee with an earlier poster that the use of a payment processing service that 'breaks' the direct link between webcam host payouts and camgirl bank deposits helps to obscure potential 'paper trails'.Quote:

Agreed that, in the past, the actual probability of a 'professional' being outed for past work in the adult industry has been very low. But, for better or worse, that does NOT mean that the same situation will apply 2-3-5 years from now ... when a current college student dancer or camgirl graduates and seeks her professional license and first job in her chosen field. One can only assume that, with improving technology, with increasing information sharing among gov't agencies, with potential employers having absolutely no shortage of job candidates to choose from, and with potential future employers facing increasingly expensive legal and financial consequences of firing and replacing employees, that the probability will increase rather than decrease. This situation sucks, because it essentially amounts to making a multi-year financial and personal commitment where the 'rules of the game' can be changed after the player has already 'bought in' and the 'game' has already started.Quote:

About the credit report thing, I don't know about banks questioning checks and turning things in. All I know is I read that employers do not show up on credit reports unless you say you work for XYZ employer when you sign up for a loan/credit card. But you maybe right with the bank issue, it just wasn't on the Experian website explanation. How many times is that likely to happen? My payments go in through Payoneer, I would think a lot of women would choose that method as it's more secure.
Also, I value correct information as anyone else. If I'm not sure of something, I'll either say so, or I'll just not provide any feedback. My career job is one that places priority on accurate information. Just so everyone knows.
Here's a link to Experian that explains employers and their role in credit reporting.
Melonie, how many employers really care if a person worked as a dancer or a cam model? I mean, really? What employers care about is education, experience and references. Some jobs are different but we ALL know what jobs might care. I can work for a lab, looking at samples all day, making fifty grand a year or so, nobody is going to care or waste time looking up what I might have done of a sexual nature. This technology that may be available in the future, that takes time and money. Corporations will prioritize and say "Is this position high profile enough we should waste our time and money looking for dirt on this candidate when they have an impressive CV and references?" No, they won't. Because ultimately, whether or not you played with yourself on cam for money or danced in a club, if YOU can offer what that company needs they will hire you based on your skills. And the competition between applicants will still always be about skills or social status, not about whether or not they danced in a club at one point in their life.
Here's something funny though, Victorias Secret, they check your credit report. I applied for work with BP, they do not check your credit report. I did sign a waver for any criminal check, but not a Credit check. They have to disclose these things beforehand. So really, which one is a better job? VS or BP? Typically, people who do credit checks are jobs that require you to handle money. They think that if you have bad credit you are careless and could possibly steal from them.
1099s can show up as "potential employer" on in-depth background checks.
Your bank is likely to update your employer to "Streamates" or "MFCXY" when they see repeat checks being deposited from there (whether direct deposit, wire, or deposited/cashed physical checks). Those names are easily googleable and tell you what they are right away.
Your employer can pull up previous tax returns. Though you must sign a waiver first, it is standard and also includes things like credit checking in that same clause, which employers now often in their hiring decision process.
There is also permanent video evidence of you on tube sites that you often cannot get removed (happened to DiamondCupcakes).
There is also technology. Facial recognition software.
Then there are things like PornWikiLeaks. While it has happened to all porn stars, it has only happened twice to some cam girls so far. Once when IDs for a site leaked. Another when a Flirt4Free or Ifriends studio had all girls info on display (by accident) for the world to see. It could happen again at any time to cam girls and your real name would be permanently tied to your stage name.
So you be the judge. However, I will say it is NOT a good idea to work with children in any way (education, nursing, etc.) unless you want to be on the news one day with your real name and stage name once this is discovered. You are MUCH better off being a dancer than a cam girl or porn bc those are more likely to be uncovered.
I am wondering how it's possible for Streamate (or whatever site you work off of) to be listed as an employer? Aren't we employed through them as third party contractors and not by them as employee's? Maybe someone who has had this come up in their background check made the mistake of listing their site as their employer?
Because your bank asks for your occupation just like they ask for your phone number. They try to keep those things up to date. They just assume they are your employer if you deposit enough checks from them, therefore, they will update that as being your employer. I never listed anything adult ANYWHeRe, yet it is on my background check.
Payoneer FTW!
