So, tell me, what WON'T you skimp on?
I was making my grocery list yesterday, I buy mostly generic products to save money, and it dawned on me, there are just some things I will NOT buy generic.
The first two that come to mind, cheese and toilet paper!
lol. I'm sorry, but those two just don't cut it if it's generic!

Re: So, tell me, what WON'T you skimp on?
Definitely tp... there's no point in buying cheap toilet paper cause you just have to use more of it.
Toothpaste + deodorant.
Anything where the generic brand has added sugar. Definitely worth paying extra to not have fillers.
Free range eggs- Normal eggs seem disgusting to me now. Their yolks are so pale and their shells are so brittle... I really can't eat them without feeling gross.

Re: So, tell me, what WON'T you skimp on?
Wow, there probably isn't much that I WILL skimp on anymore, but in the old days, there were a few things that I was adamant about:
Toilet paper
Deodorant
Mayo
Ketchup
I was going to add things like Starbucks French Roast coffee, fresh vegetables, beef from a certain butcher shop, my soap and shampoo, etc., but then I realized that, at one point or another in my adult life, I skimped on a lot of stuff, so my answers would not be entirely accurate. But during the lean years, I learned that a feeling/smelling clean and having good condiments to dress up cheap food just made everything seem better. :)

Re: So, tell me, what WON'T you skimp on?
Silk Soy milk - I hate dairy milk
Toothpaste - the last time I bought cheap toothpaste from the dollar store, it tore my gums apart
Cat food (not really for me, but my cat can't eat dry food without puking it up every time, so I have to buy canned, wet food if I don't want to clean cat puke twice a day)
Getting my nails done
Anything else, I'm really not that picky on

Re: So, tell me, what WON'T you skimp on?
I'm the most picky label whore in the world. Even my dog eats organic.
-
Re: So, tell me, what WON'T you skimp on?
I'm super cheap.. er frugal lol I buy whatever is on sale / cost effective. I just checked my kitchen and store brand labels as far as the eye can see! Except! Soup.
I like chowder, and cheap brands just taste gross and watery and are full of potatoes.

Re: So, tell me, what WON'T you skimp on?
Looks like TP is right up there! LMAO. One time we were about to run out and I couldn't go to the store, so I had my husband grab one from work. Government TP is the WORST!

Re: So, tell me, what WON'T you skimp on?
When I went to get ready, the most obvious hit me. Hair supplies...
From shampoo to condish to every single thing that goes on my hair, I refuse to skimp on quality...
-
Re: So, tell me, what WON'T you skimp on?
stripper shoes
hair extensions
cat food (would feel so guilty buying my little princess crappy food)
any kind of meat we eat
body lotion, makeup (only buy organic)
dunkin donuts coffee every day (even though its horribly full of chemicals, making it at home is not the same!!)
-
Re: So, tell me, what WON'T you skimp on?
toilet paper
stripper shoes! good point missdancy
ordinary shoes. cheap shoes are pointless. they break/hurt/dont keep you warm/dry/are bad for your foot shape
bedding, once i went feather/down it is so much better.
nowadays, buying lunch
eggs- free range only or none. won't let anyone with me buy caged, it sickens me.
i've scrimped on everything except eggs and loo paper in the past though.
-
Re: So, tell me, what WON'T you skimp on?
I'm happy to see all the free range love!
As for tp, sorry. There's a Mexican brand at the $1 store (Pétalo) I buy and it's soft enough for me. But after some convincing from an ex, now I also use baby wipes and for those I only buy Cottonelle (it seems to be less perfumey).

Re: So, tell me, what WON'T you skimp on?
It's hard to say, because of the different situations I've been in.
I used to eat organic heirloom tomatoes and other veggies, yard eggs (more or less the same thing as free range, but cheaper), local honey, etc. I never had to pay for any of it though. At that time, I got them for free because I would do deliveries on my bike and was given portions for myself as payment. Good food for good exercise? Seemed win/win to me.
Nowadays, since some one else is buying the groceries and most of my stuff, I take a "beggars can't be choosers" approach. If there's something I won't eat, I just don't eat it but express my gratitude anyway and fend for myself. Growing up in a home where you ate what was put in front of you or you didn't eat, coupled with a period of time where I was homeless helped in that sense. (the homeless time compounded my belief in never giving cash to some one asking for money- if I was really freaking hungry, I wasn't gonna argue with getting a burger! I just picked off the onions after saying thank you)
The only things I can say 100% I won't skimp on are TP, cheese and heirloom tomatoes. I won't eat any tomato that isn't heirloom. Everything else, just be happy you can have it at all.

Re: So, tell me, what WON'T you skimp on?
shampoo. I spend too much on my weave to eff it up with sulfates! lol
Facial cleanser/creams/foundations
toothpaste/mouthwash, $5 toothpaste is cheaper than getting root canal or cavity filled or something
apple jacks
diet wild cherry pepsi
other than that i love generics! cheeseburger noodles are just as good as hamburger helper lol

Re: So, tell me, what WON'T you skimp on?
I only get Stacy's salty pita chips. No other brand will suffice.
-
Re: So, tell me, what WON'T you skimp on?
Stripper shoes
Car care
Skin serum
Electric cigarettes (the more expensive ones are amazing).
Electrical goods (buy cheap, buy twice).
Wine.
Food wise, I am pretty cheap. Being vegan helps-I buy in bulk and shop at wholesale asian supermarkets and markets.
