advice/support to stop drinking at work?
Hi ladies, glad to have an account again, it's been too long!
So I have been dancing full-time since I graduated hs. I have just recently turned 21 and am drinking a lot. I have gained about 10lbs, (yikes!) in the past year because of it. I want to stop drinking at work, and although I have the willpower to stop on my own, all advice/stories and tips would be so appreciated.
I was curious, how many of you drink/don't drink at work? How much do you drink at work? How do you not drink at work/tips/advice.
Thank you girls <3
Re: advice/support to stop drinking at work?
I can't drink any alcohol at all (due to medical reasons). Generally I just drink copious amounts of tea on shift.
One of my friends who danced in Texas for a while was also in a similar predicament to yours - she switched to ordering fruity virgin drinks most of the time, and an occasional coffee or water. The bartender and management on her shift were cool with it. She reduced her alcohol intake, drank lots more water, and lost a bit of weight just from that!
Hm, as far as tips/advice, the only one I can think of at the moment is if someone decides to over-the-top hassle you for not drinking or only getting virgin drinks at work, just say you can't have alcohol due to health reasons / medications / something like that. It tends to shut them up real quick!
Re: advice/support to stop drinking at work?
I sip on Cabernet all day, it equals about a glass by the end of my shift. It's also good for you! Also, if someone offers to buy me a drink, I'll get a bottled water and just tell them that I'm thirsty or not a big drinker. For those customers that insist upon shots, do fake shots. Patron=water with lime. Make sure the waitresses know, as I've ran into trouble with them giving me real shots, and having an unwanted buzz/too many calories.

thanks ladies! i like the patron idea, and that is a great idea for saying i have a medical reason :)
i am proud to report that last night i only had one shot, and sucked down A LOT of sugar-free rockstar :)
However, thanks so much for replying to me, it means a lot to know there is somewhere i can get support. Anything else you girls can think of would be great <3
Re: advice/support to stop drinking at work?
I speak to my bar staff as soon as I can at the start of my shift and tell them to make me fake drinks. It helps them out because they save the alcohol, and I can keep sucking down drinks and shots all night without ever reaching a cutoff point. I try to sit away from the bar so it's more discreet for them, but some of my bartenders actually pull it off even when there's a whole crowd there. I also order bloody Mary's often because if a customer tasted it it's a lot harder to tell if it's virgin or not. And bloody Mary mix is reallllly healthy.

Fake drinks or Mocktails are the way to go. You'll feel great when you get in your car at the end of the night and drive home sober not to mention all the money you will save by not drinking and the money you will be making bc youre more focused. Keep going !!
Re: advice/support to stop drinking at work?
I've worked at a club where they had two or three different commission drinks that were non-alcoholic. These were the way to go for me since I don't drink at work (unless I'm sick, then I'll drink the bar out of all their brandy if they let me). I don't generally bring up the subject of alcohol w/ customers, if they ask point blank I tell them that I don't drink at work, mainly b/c I do a lot of acrobatics on the pole & I'm clumsy enough as it is. A joke abt falling off the pole & they usually laugh & let it go.
Re: advice/support to stop drinking at work?
When people hassled me about not drinking at work, my reply was "this is my work. I'm here to entertain you, but this is my work."
