Re: Dismal First Few Shifts on SM Any Advice?
I've been camming for years and this summer was beyond horrible for me. As soon as June hit my (SM)earnings dropped 30-50%. It hasn't went back to normal and in the last month I haven't been able to use the encoder. Every time I use it no matter what setting I put it on my feed lags and freezes. It will start out with a 5 sec delay and then increases to a 20 sec delay. So now I'm back to using the HD high broadcast setting until I can either upgrade my internet of get a new computer. I was planning on doing both but I didn't expect for the encoder to crap out on me before I was able to make the money for it. Its really annoying because I've been using the encoder for at least a year and I never had any problems. I know its because of there server upgrades for camtv which I don't even use. My earnings use to be steady but now its pretty much a guessing game.
CourtneyRaine gave some great advice and pretty much summed up what I was thinking. I love SM also but I hate them too. I'm pretty sure I'll always have a love/hate relationship with them. If there the only site you work on and your only source of income then they'll most likely make you crazy and jaded after awhile. Going back to spiltcamming saved my sanity and happiness lol.
If you read The Streamates or The Camming Sucks threads ya'll see that its not just you. Even some Mfc models have been complaining about how slow it is. But then if you look at The Brag thread or What's The Most You've Made On SM its the total opposite. So its pretty much up and down for everyone. The only thing we can really do is keep grinding it out, stay positive, and think of solutions to make things better.
Re: Dismal First Few Shifts on SM Any Advice?
Honestly, for your first couple of shifts $10 an hour isn't that bad - camming isn't like stripping, where you are immediately on a level playing field - you do have to spend the time working up to getting decent money. Even then, a lot of threads on here have seemed to suggest that somewhere from $30-50 an hour is about the average right now. The days of making a few hundred an hour easily are gone, sad to say. It took me a long time to get up to earning consistently over $50 an hour, and even that changes from week to week - some times are just slower than others!
Don't get too stressed out about earnings when you are just starting out - it will take time and dedication, but you will get there, as long as you put the work in!
Re: Dismal First Few Shifts on SM Any Advice?
Thanks all,
My first week ended up going pretty well. I think I'm now averaging between 17-22/hr for the entire week. I have to double check my time online thingy when it updates. I took your advice, and I believe that's why it worked. And my hourly rate seems to be going up just a bit each shift. Yay! Thanks again. xx
