Canadian Cammodels: Taxes, Visas, GST/HST
Hey everyone!
Ive been seriously considering camming for a while now and Im so glad to have found this site because its been very informative. I am planning to sign up with MFC as a non-nude model but after reading all the posts on MFC I still have a lot of questions that hopefully you girls will be able to help me with.
Ive never really done anything in the "adult industry" and never really thought of myself as a stripper lol but camming just seems like a really awesome way to make money, especially seeing how well some non-nude models do on mfc...but after reading many of the posts Im really starting to doubt if it really is for me.
First of all there is the question of taxes. Are there any Canadian models here that can tell me about how it works in Canada? All the posts on here seem to talk about US taxes and whatnot...Ive heard something about how you can earn up to 33k without being taxed but am not entirely sure...and what would you report it as anyways?
The other really big potential dealbreaker for me is background checks. I read all the posts about how this income can potentially show up on background checks in the states, but again not sure how the policy works in Canada. The field that I am going to school for right now is working with vulnerable people and I need to get background checks almost every 6 months so if this is something that would hinder me then it really is a no go :(. And Im sure plenty of girls on here are doing this until they have money to pursue bigger and better things...i see so many girls on MFC who are students doing their PhDs or graduate programs and are clearly heading for a professional path but dont seem concerned on how doing this would affect their career in the future...what are everyone's thoughts on this?
Now for those girls who worked with MFC, what kind of personal information do you have to provide to them when you signed up? Also, going back to the tax thing, from what I gathered from reading forum posts (i could be totally understanding it wrong) is that MFC reports your income to the government? I mean, they have models all over the world right so how would they be able to do that? And what are actual risks of your personal information leaking? Cause I would think that it shouldnt be legal for them to leak any of your information right? And if we are talking about hackers/stalkers...would people actually be able to hack your computer or find your IP address through MFC? Because as I was reading the thread about safety and stalkers I got really confused...why would people ever even need to mail you things if everything is through tokens/amazon/direct deposit?
Wow I just realized I asked alot of questions lolll but I really hope you ladies will be able to help me out;D
THANKS!!
Can an USA camgirl work legally online in Canada?
Hi Everyone,
So I looked all over the site and can't find a straight answer to my question. I get bits and pieces but no straight answer. I'm not worried about taxes, IRS...etc. I've got all that covered. This is a "cross the border" "visa"..etc question.
I want to take about one month a year and go rent a place in Vancouver, BC. Of course, I want to cam while I am there to keep earning $$. All I need is a internet connection? Right?
So, can I legally cam from Canada as a US citizen? I'm not moving there for ever and any US citizen can visit Canada for under 6 months.
Any input is appreciated.
Thanks.:O
Re: Can an USA camgirl work legally online in Canada?
From what I gather, it's legal if you are registered to the camsites in your native country. You will be self-employed in the US, not Canada.
I'm looking into camming abroad, as well!
Re: Can an USA camgirl work legally online in Canada?
100% Nope. Nada. No. However, it's very unlikely that you will be caught. People do it all the time, up to you but no. You're not supposed to be working while visiting other countries, even virtually but bbs do it all the time. I know I have. I've done skype shows while airbnbing in the great white north so, do it at your own risk, lol.
It doesn't matter if you're self-employed or not. Most countries state that while visiting (unless you have a work permit/visa) you are not allowed to work on your holiday but it doesn't stop anyone.
Re: Can an USA camgirl work legally online in Canada?
From what I've researched, it is as Kortneykay has summarised it. Many do it, but it's not exactly legal. Models have been caught out working in countries where they did not have work permits/visas. I personally know male strippers who were self-employed in their US home and wanted to spend the wedding season living and working in Vancouver but were turned back at the border crossing. Similar things can happen to cam models.
So the rule is, if you're going to do this, keep a low profile, don't tell anyone you're going to be working in Canada and DO NOT announce your camming intentions or schedule on social media.
Re: Can an USA camgirl work legally online in Canada?
Thanks for all the replies!
Like Kortneykay said, I've found the same thing. You can't work PERIOD while in another country unless you have the work visa thing. I own my own video biz and I'm sure I could come up with some BS reason to do "video" while visiting there for some documentary or etc. It might work. If not, I'll take my chances.
Not saying where you are or when you are working from outside the US is key. I never say where I am or where I'm caming from and just lie like a rug. Makes it all easier. I guess the worst they can do is deport your ass if they find out. I'm fine with that....
awww...the life of a cam girl!}:D

You're fine with being banned from Canada and having that permanently on your passport, including flagged (other countries will see it and will turn you away)that you don't follow rules? All they have to do is look and see that you don't respect rules and you will not be allowed in because they will assume you are trying to work and stay indefinitely. Why even bother? When border patrol asks you what it is you're doing, say that you're on holiday/vacationing. PERIOD. I've been to CA and travel there frequently and trust me, you don't want it. They don't even allow felons to visit, Canada is not one to fuck with.
And I wouldn't film anywhere outside of your personal cam space/etc. You don't know what their rules are for public filming and if you indeed need a permit. It doesn't matter what qualifications you have to film on US soil, you're no longer in the states when you cross that border. If you're going to break rules, be smart about it, lol. Just keep it simple and follow the rules and break them inside of your rental. When they ask if you plan on working, say no- vacation ONLY. You won't be fine with that when you're stuck in the US because your passport is useless.
Re: Can an USA camgirl work legally online in Canada?
Well, that sucks. Thanks for the info, ladies! I seem to be wrong, but I've found quite a few travel-related sites saying that it's okay to work as a self-employed person in another country. Maybe they're talking about having a work visa, and working more than the allowed part-time schedule that most countries limit you to?

She is not on the list...

And I don't know of any westernized countries that allow anyone to work while visiting. Not having a visa is a luxury and shouldn't at least be publically exploited because it ruins it for the rest of us. That's why you can go to countries up to 6 months (Europe, Canada, etc) but have to detail that you are going for leisure. The UK is the same way. We have treaties with certain countries and traveling for pleasure allows you to go without a visa. If you want to work out of your perspective hotel, etc, you keep it cute or put it on mute.
If you wanna work anywhere outwardly, you need to get a work visa. Those travel sites you read were lies, lol. Try telling border patrol in most countries that you're going there to work (without having a visa) and see how well you fare. Your ass will be right back on that flight home, no joke. People with permits are grilled and shut away in rooms for hours, this is not a joke, lol.

You need a work Visa to work in other countries.

Just in case anyone else out there is in a similar situation... I'm going to be going abroad WITH a work visa and a part-time job teaching adults... So I believe camming for a US-based site shouldn't be an issue? The thing that confuses me here is that most countries will give you a work visa that allows you to work part-time, but I don't know if "freelancing" in your native country is okay.
Ugh... What a headache. :/
Re: Can an USA camgirl work legally online in Canada?
You don't need a temporary work visa if you are an artist/performer.

We are essentially internet buskers.
Re: Can an USA camgirl work legally online in Canada?
^^^ Yes but they're talking about porn models, lol. The answer is NO YOU CANNOT. However, if you're quiet about it and do so in confine spaces; do what you wanna do.
