West coast girls, please be aware...
First I would like to say this post has absolutely nothing to with camming but I am hoping it won't be moved since I want all the BB's who may not know what is going on right now on the west coast to see it, not only because I know most of you CC ladies but because this is also the section of SW that gets the most viewer traffic. There is a lot of coverage on the news about the hurricane on the east coast that is coming in, which is super scary, but a lot of people are not aware of the huge increase in earthquake activity that has come up in the past 24 hours or so on the west coast. This post is not meant to promote any fear, please don't go running for the hills or freak out, it is just an advisory that people, mostly those living on the west coast, should be aware of just incase... As most of you probably know we have been told to expect a "big one" for a long time now and at the moment there is a huge build up of pressure under all the plates/fault lines stretching down the west coast and within the past 24 hours-ish many of them have started to "release" some of the pressure, so to speak.
When I say west coast, this includes : Alaska, British Columbia, Washington State, Oregon, and California.
Last night there was a 7.7 magnitude earthquake off of the North Coast of British Columbia at Haida Gwai (Queen Charlotte Islands), you may or may not have heard about this. It was the largest quake in Canada in 60+ years. Since then there have been approximately 60 aftershocks ranging from 4.5 mag - 6.5 mag which are still happening now approximately every 30 minutes - an hour. These are also shallow quakes which make it that much more dangerous. Tsunami warnings were in effect last night and many people evacuated on the coast here as well as in Hawaii but there was no tsunami. Because these quakes are happening off the water and in a generally unpopulated area there has been no real damage but just because there is no destruction doesn't mean it should be taken lightly, 7.7 is a serious quake that is stronger than the one that happened in Haiti. I live VERY far from the epicenter of this earthquake and still felt it when it hit, my building swayed a bit and creaked and it freaked the bejesus out of me.
So why am I posting? Well after that I have been tracking the live quake maps like a crazy person. Aftershocks from the big one off of Haida Gwai in BC are now moving much closer to the mainland and other mini-earthquakes are popping up at an abnormally large rate throughout California and Alaska. These are coming from two completely different sets of tectonic plates meaning there are 4 major plates that are very active right now and combined they cover the entire west coast of North America. Live feed quake map can be found here if you'd like to check it out for yourself : http://quakes.globalincidentmap.com/
Again, this is not meant to cause any panic or scare anyone or anything, there has been NO injuries/damage/destruction anywhere and we were very fortunate the quakes epicenter hit in a completely unpopulated offshore region. I just think it is really important for people living in these areas to be aware of it and that there are high levels of activity going on in the region right now, AND for everyone to remember to take the necessary precautions when living in an earthquake zone. I have not made myself an "earthquake kit" since I was in elementary school but this has been a wake-up call on the importance of being prepared just incase and I myself will be getting on that ASAP and urge all of you west coast BB's to do so as well. East coast BB's I wish you all the best and safety if you are in the hurricane zone... Mother Nature really seems to hate all of us right now.

Re: West coast girls, please be aware...
Quit trying to scare girls!!!! I've been through many many large earthquakes when I lived in los angeles, including the biggest *mother fucker' of them all back in 1994- 7 magnitude-
The people who live in California have sooooooooooo much freakin' money, that nothing will happen to those 'money grabbing kooks!'
Why don't you bring some Positive shit to say here, since the world is so fucked up anyway right now,and we are all trying to make our money- Be constructive to the cam girls, not destructive!

I find your response more destructive then the OP. There are a lot of girls who live in California who may not have know about the earthquakes, all peaches was trying to do was say "Hey, be aware and be prepared". I'm not going to assume that ALL of the camgirls in Cali "have sooooooooooo much freakin' money, that nothing will happen to those 'money grabbing kooks!'" so I have no idea what you are trying to convey.
Thanks for the coverage Peaches. It's always nice to hear the news without having to watch an hour of horrible news coverage on TV.

Re: West coast girls, please be aware...
The news coverage of it is pretty big here now and to me it doesn't look very pretty.
So i just want to say thoughts are with anyone this affects!
I think it was a really nice thoughtful idea for the OP to put this topic up, i don't think its scare tactics at all, just simply someone with a decent caring bone in their body, so thank you OP for this post of support to the ladies and their families.

Damn. My image is showing up as eaten. Anyway, Fry not sure if going over the top simply to imitate and tease a resident fear-monger who shall not be named or if really seriously thinking this.

Re: West coast girls, please be aware...
Thanks Peaches!! It's always good to keep informed, and I don't think you are scaremongering AT ALL. Frankly, you are being far more reasonable than most of the newspapers around here right now!
And it's a good point - this MAY have an affect on camming (this and Sandy on the other coast - hope YOU ladies are staying safe too!!) - power outages and evacuations will prevent customers from coming online - as well as some girls working!
GlamorMilf - I really don't think that Peaches is creating fear or being overly negative - it's not exactly "the end is coming!", just "stay safe". And as for the "biggest motherfucker" being a 7....well, this one was a 7.7, and a 9.0 is expected fairly soon. I'm sure that things will be fine, but it is always good to keep each other informed.
For anyone who is interested, here is a link to the BC earthquake preparedness info: http://www.pep.bc.ca/hazard_prepared...paredness.html
If you don't already have a kit, GET ONE. (I really need to put mine together - its all over the house)
Absolute essentials: Water, energy bars/dried food, first aid kit, week's worth of any prescriptions, map of emergency shelters and routes...
The best idea is to put this stuff in a bag with a HELMET on top!! Because if you want to get back into your house to get anything (firesafe box with passport, for example), you are far more likely to be let in by emergency services if you have a helmet with you.
If you have pets, get a sticker for your front window that asks emergency services to get them OUT - you can buy these at pet stores (useful for fires, too). And add a few days worth of pet food/medicine to your emergency kit and some extra water. Also - check which local shelter will take animals, and make sure that leashes/carrying cases are close at hand.
And DON'T go to the fire stations in BC!!! A friend of mine is in PR and politics, and did an interview with the fire stations - who have an evac plan for the "big one" - if you head to the fire station for instructions, there will be no one there. Check the bc website and the news stations, they will have better instructions.
Stay safe everyone!!

Re: West coast girls, please be aware...
I'm glad that this was posted because it SO applies to camming. Being a girl who lives in Florida, who tells all of her regulars she lives in Washington, I need to know about Washington natural disasters, including earthquakes. Now when I work tonight I'll know wtf a guy means when they ask me if I'm OK because of the earthquakes.
-
Re: West coast girls, please be aware...
I'm on the east coast (U.S.), and schools were closed today. Hoping that if our power does go out, that it's not for too long. Please be safe, ladies!

Re: West coast girls, please be aware...
Ladies, I believe my response was misconstrued-Even though i had taken all the precautions, (emergency kits, exit plan, etc,it STILL didn't do any good, when my stairwell to my apt. bldg. was collapsed, and couldn't even get to my car. plus, electric gates don't open anyway, when there is an earthquake and all the transformers are blown out!! I lived next to the firestation, and ran over, because a lot of seniors were trapped in their apts, and guess where the firemen were? Outside of the fire station sitting on the ground, because their brand new firestation, built of concrete, also had safety electric gates, and closed down over the fire trucks.
(and that was in beverly hills). I had, at that point, lived through a few bad earthquakes before, and really thought that the big one was coming, so I packed up and moved to Florida. Yep, just in time to have Florida hit with a hurricane!
All i'm saying is Please don't be afraid, if You have faith, then You will ALWAYS be protected. (P.S.-In the 1994 earthquake, only 50 people died-there were over 7 million people living in Los Angeles county at the time.) Great odds of survival if you ask me. When it's Your time, its your time, and no amount of prep,or panic, will prevent that.
if You REALLY want to do something to help, and get Your mind off what 'could be', Please donate to FEMA now, because after this hurricane, funds will be low, and I know they could use it. Some of the areas that have already been hit,(the low income housing projects) have no electricity, etc.
Hope You are strong, because I know from past experience that fear of any kind will take You down. 'Nothing scares me now-hurricane Sandy, Bring it on!!!! I'm ready for you! :relieved:

Re: West coast girls, please be aware...
^^ Okay, I understand what you are saying and I don't want to start an argument here, but there is no use is comparing a centralized 7.0 quake in LA with possible events in the future. There are tons of variables besides the magnitude that will effect outcomes, including but not limited to : the depth of the quake, the epicenter of the quake, and the movement of the plates involved. Most of these are unpredictable, and the LA quake was not a "mega-quake" which is what people on the coast need to be prepared for as they only happen approximately every 500 years and the last one in the westcoast was in 1700. That being said, it may not happen in our lifetime at all, again, they are unpredictable and these are just seismologists "best guesses". As I said, I only made this thread so that people who are not aware of the increased activity lately are, it doesn't mean anything serious is going to happen and is not meant to scare anyone, these are not paranoid speculations though, they are facts.
In regards to your "in the 1994 earthquake only 50 people died" comment, well, smmhhh.... "only 265" people died in the Japan megaquake itself, but it triggered a Tsunami that killed almost 20,000 people with another 27,000 injured, so... yeah. =/

Re: West coast girls, please be aware...
Thank you peaches for making this thread. Girls need to know what is going on, and pearl_sugar brought up a good point how this is relevant to camming too, not just a safety post.
Stay safe everyone! <3

Hurricane path girls OK?
After seeing pics, and hearing of some of the disaster, just wanted to see if ya'll are doing ok. I suppose if you are a part of the blackouts it will be a few days before you can respond. My friends in NYC have been texting craaazzzzyyyyy pics and stories. Hang in there babies!
Besides girls not being able to cam , how much do you think this may affect traffic in general if at all? Supposedly, I've read, that things like this boost adult type work, like some animalistic I survived therefore I must spread my manly seed mentality.

Re: Hurricane path girls OK?
Yes girls, I hope you are all okay, please let me know how you NYC girls are doing in particular? My mom lives only a few blocks from the Long Island Sound and she's in a basement apartment to make matters even worse. She is not well and can't get around very easily, and I haven't heard from her so I am really starting to get worried.

Re: Hurricane path girls OK?
I'm not suffering any ill effects from the storm, HOWEVER, my MFC room was dead tonight. I guess most of my guys are from the east and aren't able to come online. :(

Re: Hurricane path girls OK?
Sorry to hear some of you are affected work wise, but glad so far no one is reporting worse. I used to live in the LES in NYC, and I can't imagine how crazy it would be if I still did.

Re: Hurricane path girls OK?
Sending hugs and thoughts from the UK, hope all the girls and their loved ones are OK xx
