Re: The Totally Random Thread...
So, K is a douche and M learned his lesson
I was never amused at the 'guy games' and never really engaged, but then again, I haven't worked for anyone who isn't me in many years, so there is that.
It is instructive in this 'me too' era, that while some harassment may be sexual, much of it is just jerks being jerks. This is how they treat other men, how are they going to treat you?
There is a fine line between being made to feel uncomfortable as a human and being uncomfortable with being female.
Honestly, while I would have smiled and shook my head whether victim or witness, there is a lack of management in this situation, and a little too much boys will be boys going on.

Re: The Totally Random Thread...
This is real simple. The workplace is no place for pranks, practical jokes, horseplay. Anyone who engages in such activity should be fired on the spot and made an example of. My apologies for the dangling participle.

Since it involves a piece of metal, it is less humiliating than it would have been if K had used his hand and slapped or grabbed M's scrotum.
Thank you for taking the question seriously. So, in a ‘punch line’ sense, it can be funny? As in, the setup and execution made it funny, rather than the act itself? I don’t expect just walking up to someone and kicking them in the balls would go over so well. Am I interpreting it correctly?

Rather well. They would never subject me to that sort of thing, but I wasn’t spared from the bacon flavored gag candy cane. This is a heavy equipment shop I’m working in, not an office. I’m probably a bit of an oddity here, but I’m one of the strongest in electrical diagnosis (important especially when dealing with CAN BUS systems) and I’ve earned my stripes here. When you’re a rather petite and short female but you’re doing the job all the same and not using it as an excuse to slack off or pawn it off on others, they respect that.

It didn’t make me feel uncomfortable, just confused. As for my interactions with my coworkers in this division, we found an acceptable middle ground. I understand that there may be times I’ll hear things that HR would have a cow about, and they understand that there are boundaries not to be crossed. This isn’t an environment where you can be terribly thin skinned, but it doesn’t mean anything goes, either. My first job after I moved out on my own was at Kohl’s… and I’m treated far better here than I was there.

It can be funny. I still would not want someone going through with it.

It would take an unusual situation for someone to tolerate being kicked in earnest. Faking a kick would be funnier, but it introduces a dynamic of physical confrontation and disrespect that could get out of hand.

Re: The Totally Random Thread...
This hysteria over Corona Virus is my entertainment for this year. Speaking in realistic statistical probabilities, any given American is more likely to die of heart disease, an accidental death or cancer than …..Corona Virus. But people are actually stockpiling and believing everything the news is saying. Ugh. People in large uninformed groups are the worst.

And so even when there is no real shortage of goods, one is created by people stockpiling

Random food- I'll be doing Irish food at home for Saint Patrick's Day that isn't corned beef and cabbage due to being outvoted on that.
Irish food isn't as awful as people try to say it is. I'm not Bobby Flay but I think I'll do good for the holiday in the kitchen.

Funnily enough, the Irish woman can make and has made traditional Irish food, but she doesn’t wax sentimental over it in any way. She caught the barbecue bug living here.
She’s also doing that thing again when she practices in front of a mirror trying to fake a more American accent in order to avoid the fuckery.

I think your friend is going through what I call "food novelty"- a lot of cooks will keep cooking certain things until they master the dishes. Then move on to another style or cuisine.
I wish your friend didn't feel so out of sorts about being Irish! Irish immigrants are pretty much everywhere in the States so she shouldn't act like she feels like a sore thumb.
Random- I wish I could do soda bread but it's not really something my diet will allow right now. Also random- I'm so sad we ran out of venison sausage.

I don’t think she feels out of sorts on her own doing. There’s this weird fetishization of the Irish in this country, and it’s just a bit creepy to her. Whenever she speaks, her accent draws them out. They hear mine… I don’t know? Maybe some admixture between the movie Fargo and Triumph of the Will?
Or especially when I’m on the phone with my parents, we’re not speaking English, and they’re making me exasperated (which happens pretty consistently).

Re: The Totally Random Thread...
On a lighter note during all this Corona Virus nonsense- stop in to Bath and Body Works to get hand sanitizer and hand lotion. They do batch pricing and will make this time a bit less miserable as we handwash and scrub our way to feeling better about flu.....

Re: The Totally Random Thread...
Trying to get someone to watch the movie Doctor Sleep with me. Not that I have any fear about watching it on my own, I just always saw watching movies as something you did with others. When the movie first came out, one of the techs in the shop went to see it, then starting likening me to Rose the Hat, because I have a somewhat similar hat which I wear on occasion. I get the gist of the movie, but he says it’s not just because of the hat that he makes that comparison, so I need to see that movie and figure out what that’s about. Of course, once I suggested it, everyone else in this house gets squeamish about movies of that nature and they refuse.

Toilet paper is sold out in every store within a 5 mile radius. Meanwhile there are people making bank on selling toilet paper on ebay:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Toilet-Pape...coijK&LH_BIN=1
I would really like to know who the fuck is paying $5,000 for this. I see that it said 78 sold. :-O

I’ll just nab some from work if worst comes to worst. Granted, it has the consistency of sandpaper. But the army taught me to endure that.

Re: The Totally Random Thread...
i could be wrong but I don’t think they sold 78 rolls for 5k
i believe they sold 78 rolls for the standard price THEN once they ran out of stock, they edited the listing price so that a) no one would make a purchase while they’re out of stock because having to cancel/refund order dings their account b) they didn’t want to end the listing (especially if it’s a best selling item which will come back in stock soon/frequently goes out of stock and they want to save on listing fees)

The advantage of being a hardass!

Re: The Totally Random Thread...
Yeah… I endure that while the smart ones get creative and find a less uncomfortable way to go about it.
