Re: The Totally Random Thread...
I don't really understand how life insurance policies work but I've been thinking about it lately. I don't know how to shake the fear that something bad is going to happen. If I die during this pregnancy or childbirth, I want all my money to go to my kids only. I don't want it going to anyone else. I don't even know how I'd go about this or where to start because I've always thought that I was an invincible survivor up until now.

Re: The Totally Random Thread...
set up a trust account in your kids names and name them and the account as the sole beneficiaries to whatever life insurance you get for yourself, and make sure its noted that they cant touch it until they turn 18 and that the executor of your will cannot access it either.

Re: The Totally Random Thread...
@WendiStarr so sorry you feel scared. Going through pregnancy is difficult enough already.

You should talk to someone who sells life insurance and maybe an estate lawyer. Going to a hospital for any procedure is always scary, but chances are you'll be fine. I hope everything goes well for you.

Re: The Totally Random Thread...
Nursing home workers leave in droves
Hailed as heroes during the early months of the pandemic, more of the mostly low-wage workers at nursing homes are quitting because of staffing shortages brought on by omicron. A total of 420,000 have left the industry since March 2020, shrinking the workforce to the size it was 15 years ago. Meanwhile, interest in skilled nursing programs has dropped, with those who are enrolled setting their sights on becoming traveling nurses or home health aides. All of this as the “grey tsunami” of boomers begin to age into the facilities.
I guess you can't underpay people while subjecting them to incredible stress, and then ask them to come back for more

And if they need it for living expenses, college tuition, a medical emergency they cant use it. And 18 is way to young for them to be entrusted with substantial funds. Most inherited funds are gone within five years, anyway. For an 18 year old it will likely be a lot less. If it is not a spendthrift trust judgment creditors can get it.

If you want to make sure they don't go through all of their money right away, you can have them receive their payout as an annuity, rather than a lump sum. You can specify to have them receive a certain payment every year for a specified number of years, maybe 10 - 20 years.

Re: The Totally Random Thread...
I'm grateful that Papa John's remains one of the few places left where you can actually order delivery online, and pay (and tip) with cash when they get there. Because with this pitiful $6.91 remaining on my debit card, I sure as hell wouldn't have been able to order from anywhere off of DoorDash. LOL.

Random but- I worked at a Papa John's ages ago (both food prep and delivery) and I still love the pizzas even though the former CEO does and says so much dumb shiat.
I'm also not a fan of Door Dash since I'm conditioned to seeing delivery personnel from the business I ordered from. LOL being old.

Does Door Dash do background checks on their contractors?

Re: The Totally Random Thread...
A non-spoiler review of Quentin Tarantino's "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood"- terrible movie, don't watch it. Waste of time.

I have no idea, but I sure hope that Uber and Lyft do background checks on the drivers that we're alone with in vehicles. Years ago it weirded me out that my Lyft driver wound up being a creepy old Craigslist "photographer" I'd done a paid photo shoot with (when I was in my 20s) when I needed fast cash. When I saw that he was my Lyft (or Uber?) driver, I remember thinking damn, they really do just be letting anybody drive for Uber or Lyft, huh? Lol. I don't recall if he remembered me.

Caught that on cable a while ago and thought someone was trying way too hard to look like a Tarantino film. But it was him.
Would still see his Star Trek movie, though.

Naw Tarantino could not do straight science fiction. That takes intellect.
Tarantino is what the French call an "infant terrible" (I might have not translated that right but you get the idea.) He does his "thing" well but that is it.

Re: The Totally Random Thread...
^^ It's on right now, preceded by Michael Bay's last Transformers movie.
How did Sir Anthony Hopkins wind up in this?

He got bored, most likely.

I think Orson Welles, who played Unicron in the 1986 movie, did it for his grandkids. Maybe Sir Anthony...
Oh dear God.

Is that the one about the Manson family and Tarintino "re-imagines" it? (Just like he "re-imagined" slavery in Django; good movie and actors, but that was inaccurate)
