New to SW! Semi-new on MFC, any tips on staying motivated and dedicated to my work?
Hi ladies! I've been reading threads on SW for quite some time and have gotten so much great info just from browsing, so I finally made an account. I'm currently a model on MFC and doing pretty good there. I truly do enjoy it. I have no other job, and am a student although currently not in school, so I have much time to devote to camming. I have a decent amount of regulars and do well in my sense of the word anyways. I'm only 19, but live on my own, much privacy - basically, I have the perfect schedule and environment to cam full time. My problem is.. staying motivated to work from home. I get very lazy and it hurts me in the long run (bills bills bills) I know I have the potential to make good money (1k a week is great pay to me, being a student) but slack off. I have tried setting a schedule in my phone (logging on 3x a day for 3 hrs each shift) with realistic goals.
So to sum it up, does anyone have any tips they could offer, how you girls keep yourselves motivated despite how easy it may be to skip a day or two since you work independently? I appreciate all replies!
*EDIT* As of now, even with slacking off I get at least 15 hrs per week in. I don't miss more than 2 days of work in a row. I would love to switch to full time though.
xoxo
Re: New to SW! Semi-new on MFC, any tips on staying motivated and dedicated to my wor
I've started to journal, on a word pad to sort of monitior my time and results, online. Sometimes, just writing a short stream of consciousness to remind myself of my goals ("well, I did want to take care of that bill and I do want to go on this trip...") is a great way to get myself in the mood for camming. Tonight, at 9:30pm, I told myself I was going to log in. I tweeted about putting on simple makeup, then I started my writing about what I would do specifically. I had slept all day so I hadn't logged any hours at that point and I knew I wasn't tired. I told myself that there was no reason not to get a few hours on cam out of the way. Also, any time I put in tonight meant less time I have to spend in the morning and I have daytime errands to run. I simply stated that the money isn't going to make itself and after a short break and getting myself together, I logged on.
Camming ended up a success! A few hours later, I wrote about how great the shift was and how happy I was to have logged on. I reassessed my goals, since I had made my minimum and decided to stay on for another 90 minutes. I like checking in with myself and my energy levels, through the process of a shift. If I'm in a good mood and I know I can keep going, I remind myself that the energy will likely pay off. I gave myself a short, 10-minute break. When you're your own boss, you have to be responsible for your own positive reinforcement. When you're doing well, rewards and self-congratulation is key.
90 minutes later, I was done and had surpassed my earnings goal by twice as much. I let myself log off and I recorded my impressions of the night. I had tweeted links throughout the shift so I consider that taking care of the self-promotional side of my business, while I was camming. Again, I told myself I had done a good job and got "off the clock" in my own way. Now, when I log in and have a craptastic shift, I can look back at tonight and reiterate to myself that good nights happen and I CAN sit for the five hours it takes to complete my average goals. Sometimes, it's easier on me than others but just making myself do it and micromanaging my own productivity does pay off, in the end. I remind myself of what I want, why I'm there and how long I should stay. I'll tell myself that after, I've got the satisfaction of a productive day and a hot cup of tea waiting to relax me when I'm done. This is probably what helps me the most, when I need to really encourage myself to cam on a daily basis.
Just an addendum: I try to clock in as much as 25-30 hrs of camming, a week. That's not quite "full-time", in the traditional sense but I do consider it above average for most sex work. It's particularly hard for me because I'm definitely one of those girls where if I make my entire goal in the first 30 minutes to an hour (which can happen), I will typically log off and consider my job totally done. I'm really trying to get out of that habit and log in more hours (not just earning time) to try and increase my average earnings.

Hey congrats if you're doing 1K per week on MFC! That's really good, especially for a newbie :) Personally, knowing I made 1K each week would be enough motivation for me. And I hover around that number as well on MFC. But anyway, for me, I find that if I just go through with getting all made up and dressed, by the time I'm done I'm ready to cam. Another motivator for me is knowing that if I don't go on consistently, I will lose my regulars eventually. You are off to a great start, don't ruin it by slacking off ;)

Thanks for the awesome tips! I haven't been averaging 1k a week every single week, like I would want to, but I know if I put enough time and effort into my work I would easily have that earning potential. I think keeping a journal sounds like a great idea  I have many short term goals (such as new shoes, a new purse, etc) as well as long term goals (paying my way through nail tech school) and I think writing them down maybe even hanging them up would help get me motivated. This is actually my first job in the industry but I couldn't imagine going back to 7.50/hr (min wage where I am) I would love to become successful and see where it takes me. As of now, I do not have a twitter or any other social networks set up for "my cam life" but am considering putting one together now as I can tweet to followers, "I will be on cam in an hour!" etc so that I HAVE to go on cam in an hour, knowing that if not I probably won't seem so reliable!
Hopefully eventually I will have a set daily schedule that I will be able to stick to like clockwork without second thought

^^
Ooo.. I've made TONS of lists of everything I wanted, too! I used to have a sticky, on my desktop that said "Shit I Want/Need" and was just items I came across that I couldn't necessarily get right away but knew i could budget for, if I worked a little harder. Everything from new computers to cams to gaming systems or new clothes. Maybe I'd make way more money than expected one month and I'd check in with my list and choose something to get, to treat myself. Often, I'd wait months and go down the list and take several items off I'd either bought or realized were crap and I had got over wanting it. Lol! I'd add things all the time. I don't hustle wish lists, with custies so this was a better way to remind myself of all the random stuff I want when I'd hit a Whale and could go a little crazy. It's definitely a great motivator. :)
