i7 Toshiba Laptop for $579.99 at Staples!!
So my laptop is getting that HD failure predict warning... for some time now. Been looking to upgrade but I already have an i5. Found this smoking hot deal on this i7 Toshiba. Has plenty oh memory and stuff. Only thing I would change is the graphics card, but then it becomes an $800+ computer elsewhere! Anyway, thought I would post the link on this if any of you are looking for a smoking deal on a new computer!! Hope it helps! I will review it when I get mine! :)

Decided to wait since I just bought a new computer and I have the 525 which is actually pretty awesome for the money if anyone was curious...

Toshiba laptops are known for overheating...I have an i7 gaming Toshiba laptop, when I first switch it on it usually tells me the fan isn't working but after a while it starts up.

Re: i7 Toshiba Laptop for $579.99 at Staples!!
I have a toshiba (an i3) which I've had for like not even a year and a half, and I've already had repairs. Keyboard started failing (though maybe my own issue?), the case was made of cheap plastic that broke, the charger bent the inside of the laptop when it fell and I had to get it fixed, and it overheats (fan is almost allllways on). As a machine it seems to be okay. Now I have an Asus (i7) and run both, and I still think I prefer the Toshiba machine-wise, but its made with really poor external parts that have made it more hassle than its worth (for me). The Asus externally is amazing quality, but I still think a Toshiba i7 internal machine would outperform it.I have heard a lot of girls complain about the Asus with camming, but then a lot defended it so I don't even know lol. But any i7 is probably better than no i7.

Me too!
I'm in serious need of a new laptop ASAP, but first I'm gonna focus on buying Christmas gifts and getting through Christmas first. When that's over with, my goal will be to get a brand new laptop (with i7) that's suitable for camming...especially for a site like Streamate which has such high standards for models.

There is a setting in the bios that you can change to make your fan be always on. It uses more power and makes your laptop louder as it will not turn off or slow down if "not needed," but if that's okay I'd be happy to help you with the steps to turn it to always on.
It's a pretty darn good laptop and a great processor for that price point. I would upgrade the RAM once you can save up for it. This laptop has integrated graphics, so they will never be able to be upgraded. For the price, it is still definitely worth it to upgrade if you're using a glorified paper weight (a super outdated comp).

Processor is great. USB 3.0 high speed ports are great. 6 gigs is not so great, but easy to increase to 8 gigs for relatively few additional dollars.

We got a new Lenovo laptop on black Friday for a sweet price. They are the executive brand for IBM and it has a 1 year warranty and a free year of Skype premium. Techbargains.com is a great place to keep an eye on prices

Re: i7 Toshiba Laptop for $579.99 at Staples!!
I did want the graphics card and a couple more gigs of memory. BUT those computers were around $1000 on sale!! Since I'm currently using an i5 with 4gig mem and the same graphics card, I should be fine. I stream in HD with that setup and get raves about the video quality! Thinking about an external hard drive to store all my video clips and photos to keep extra memory available on the new unit. My old computer going to be repaired for free BUT they are going to have it for a month! It's a long story, but needed a "value upgrade" before mine fails and have to send it in... I have several techie friends and they said this model should easily be able to handle everything... except that super expensive Sony camera that requires a graphics card, but I'm not planning on that purchase! ;)

Re: i7 Toshiba Laptop for $579.99 at Staples!!
Tina,
Have you checked what your power/battery settings are on???
Like where the battery level is click that and if it isn't set simply on high performance try putting it on high performance.
My new laptop was doing the same thing but ONLY when it wasn't set on high performance.
Every single time I unplug my laptop from the charger or replug it in I always have to set the performance level back to high.
Let me know if this helps :D

Re: i7 Toshiba Laptop for $579.99 at Staples!!
I figured I would mention it, as losing the wifi connection in the middle of a show isn't to fun ;( I did read somewhere that someone uninstalled and reinstalled mcafee and it helped, but I don't have mcafee.. so if you have that on there try it. I don't like the thought of it coming and going while working

Re: i7 Toshiba Laptop for $579.99 at Staples!!
I have a Lenovo! Yes I had wicked issues. Fix the battery performance, it seems to work great after. I stay hard wired.

Re: i7 Toshiba Laptop for $579.99 at Staples!!
I'm always temped by these deals to buy a non-Mac computer. At the beginning of the tread I'm thinking "Maybe I should give a non-mac lap top a try, mine is almost 4 years old, and while it still works, I wouldn't mind an upgrade for under $600". But by the end of the tread, I'm almost hugging my lap top cause windows os sounds so complicated. "install antivirus... Uninstall antivirus... install it again... and that other unrelated problem will go away!" Waaah? Why? How does that makes sense?
Downside... I need to start a fund to save up 2k for my next lap top.

Re: i7 Toshiba Laptop for $579.99 at Staples!!
That's for a Lenovo.... not Toshiba! This will be my 3RD Toshiba laptop and I wouldn't ever buy another brand. Toshiba backs up their products too. The laptop I have still works great, I just can't afford to have a HD fail so I jumped on this deal. :)

I also disabled the wireless, since I stay hardwired for SM. It helped cut down on freezes. It seems as if the two wireless and hardwired where having issues, so I cut off the wireless in the settings. Helps a lot. Still have no clue why I buy laptops. ;)

I prefer mac too, but I got rid of mine when I started camming because I've found that a lot of programs I need (well, want) to use are not mac friendly.

Re: i7 Toshiba Laptop for $579.99 at Staples!!
I love this thread, and I'm gonna be keeping an eye on it. :) Yesterday I was browsing different laptops on the internet, and when I saw the $1,000+ - $2,000+ laptops, I wondered how long those laptops will last before they come out with someone new which suddenly makes THAT laptop look like shit...lol. I remember when I bought my $1,000 Sony VAIO laptop when it was known for its great reputation, and now it would be considered old and outdated.
When the holidays are over, I'm getting an i7 laptop - UNDER $1,000 (maybe around $700)- and am leaning towards Toshiba and Lenovo.
