Yep, im in. shootin for 18000 by June (ultimatly saving for a house) workin 3-4 nights a week. Ive got 2000 to start with. Ive been useing a system for 2 months now where I write the month at the top & then fill in each night I worked followed by what I made & which club it was at. I add up my weekly total each week & see how it holds up against my quota (1200/week) at the end of the month I divide my total income by # of days worked and get my nightly average. Its all kinda fun in a nerdy way to shuffle all these papers with numbers, and contrasting them with eachother can show you how much you missed out on by not working those extra 4 days a month etc. I think im gonna get a savings account and/or deposit box. Getting to see an overview of your earning & savings hels a lot to stay motivated.
Here's a savings trick I love: whenever I want a beauty treatment, I find a coupon for it on Lifebooker, Groupon, Livingsocial, or Bloomspot. The deals are always great - especially on lifebooker. Usually there's a 50-90% savings. So I buy the coupon for the beauty treatment and then pay my savings account the difference between the actual price of the treatment and the discount price. For example, if I want a Brazilian blowout, I find a coupon for one for $100. The original price of the treatment was $300, so that $200 difference goes into savings. It's a pretty painless way to save some cash.
Im doing the 52 Week savings plan, except by tens instead of ones....so if I stick to it, by the end of the year should save up $10,950.
So....so far, I have $10 saved up. *YaY*! LoL :D
Yeah I spent like 10K in the last month...
i'm in. if you equal it out there are about 52 weeks in a year so you would need to put away $200 a week to make $10,000 a year
I managed to save 13K like this in 6 months. Then again, I had regular income coming in from a full time job I was working while dancing 2-3 LOOOOOng nights a week. Shame that there is only a portion of that left in my savings 3 years later : P
For the last 15 months, of the income I've generated from my vanilla job I've made an honest attempt to save 10% of every deposit I make. Sometimes I can only put away 5%, but that's still something. Yes, I have had to take out additional funds to cover things here and there, but it's better than nothing, which is what I have saved from most of my working years.
To make things easier, as we all have expenses to pay- dancing full time or part time or whatever, if you put away 10% every time and then add additional savings from unexpected windfalls or really good nights, you'll live more comfortably while you're saving, and confidently building up that bank account- which will make it alot easier to keep doing it.
I have $30 saved so far :D But Im doing the 52 week savings thing, so by the end of the year I should have a bit over $10k saved....on track so far! Tomorrow is week 3, which means another $30 goes into my little tin ;D
yay its only been 2 weeks into the new year and im at 1600 saved ;D;D;D;D
Well, im writing this to keep motivated. I missed a week of work due to personal issues & am trying to make up for it. working 6 more shifts this month should allow me to hit my monthly quota (especially some of these being doubles during busy time). I cant stress how helpful it is to mark your nightly earnings..its a relief to see an overview & start detecting patterns. I can see that my home club has really nose dived, many nights hardly making my low average . I really like being able to do the math (such as how much I need to compensate for that week off, & being able to determine that as a realistic figure, whereas if I hadnt & worked like a dog & came up short id have been frustrated) the most obvious pattern ive seen is the begining of the month is much higher than tge rest..like by almost double! Gonna start hitting more shifts early in the month & deposit what ive got.
How are yall doin?
This month I had to put 200 dollars into my car and buy textbooks plus it is the slow season around here so I am not on track at the moment but I am going to put 100 in tomorrow... better than nothing.
Again I sort of hate to post this, since I really didn't have to do anything to earn it other than make a wise investment choice.
At any rate, immediately after last November's election, I bought a bunch of USO shares ... which is an ETF that rises and falls with the price of Crude Oil. Since the first of the year, the price of USO and Crude Oil have been soaring ... and today put me over the $10k income mark !

Again, the moral of the story is for dancers to earn all that they can WHEN they can, save the money they have earned, invest that money well etc.
Melonie, that's awesome. I need to start investing but I don't know where to start!
I refinanced my 10K because I didn't save up ANYTHING in January lol, so I have to save 2K every month so that I can reach 10K by June. Well, I saved up my 2K for February and I'm on par to saving up my 2K for March!
My goal is to save 5k by May. So far, I've saved $2,500. I didn't start saving until February and it's only the beginning of March, so I'm definitely on track. I'd like to save an extra $500 this month, and 2K in April, which should be pretty easy for me as long as I'm budgeting.
Tipped over 10K with a great shift on Sunday night... Celebrating my money making roll by working 5 days this week, lol.
^Haha, I thought you were saying that someone tipped you over 10k. You should've seen my guffaw - followed by some pretty intense scowling (in disbelief).
Anyway, congrats on meeting and exceeding your goal! :)
Charlie, I KNOW you could whack it out of the park!:)
I love reading this thread, it keeps me super motivated. Still losong weight and its going well so far. Keep up the posts! In few months I should have earning to post!!!
im in, even though i started a month late :( saving 250 a week! slacked off last week, but im goin to make up for it tomorrow and put double the amount in! got 1000 in savings so far..tax returns are going right in there as well, all of em.
Looks like I'm wayyy behind, but better late than never lol
I just went back to dancing 2 weeks ago. I worked a pretty dead mid shift at a super dead club, worked 1 more shift last Friday for 5 hours, made $350. I had to buy some diapers and fill up the gas in the car a couple of times, but I've managed to save $330...and not touch the stash!
I'm working Friday at the same club, and then working a couple of dayshifts at a nicer club in the city on the weekend and I'll start to work consistently 3 days a week. For this time in the season it's pretty slow everywhere around here from what I understand, though its starting to get busier and with me working more shifts, I'll be catching up with you ladies real soon:)
Well..i took a month off before finding a new club. Just had my first night this week & the $ wasnt bad, i think im at around 4gs saved. Going grocery shopping & cooking at home has saved A LOT. Its also kinda more fun when we do go out to eat since its a novelty now. Gonna try to get in the club before 8pm to keep house fees from getting outrageous. Gonna start building credit & get on my taxes.
Hi guys, I'm in! I'm an oldie around here but haven't been on in a very long time. I quit dancing full time about a year ago and I'm starting back tonight! I'm nervous and full of anxiety but excited also. I've always been horrible about saving, I'm exactly as an above poster, I save a lot, then think "oh I don't need to work, I have money" Then I get lazy and blow it all. So I thought this might motivate me to actually save!!
One reason I try to save is, things are so up & down, then summer gets slow..Idk about 10k I am kinda a semi-newb but would like to be in this
