Registering an adult domain - 2012 Update on best sites
Hi,
I want to register a domain for my cam name. I've been searching the forums but wanted to get the most up to date info before I make a decision. My friend told me she uses GoDaddy but I've seen a few posts here looking down on that site. I've also seen these sites mentioned:
http://www.1and1.com
http://www.webair.com/
http://dreamhost.com/
1and1 has $0.99 domains for the first year - is there a catch, or should I go with this one? What has everyone's experience been so far?
Thanks Ladies :)

I use Hostgator for both my domain name and my hosting and have found them to be pretty good.

hostgator too - super helpful tutorials and patient customer support

I'm with Certified Hosting, so far so good. I actually bought my domain name at 123reg originally but transferred it.

I'm not a fan of 1and1 for a number of reasons. I use godaddy for registration (their tools make it easy to manage) and then host at ARVIXE.COM because they are super cheap and XXX friendly host.

Would you mind elaborating on why you don't like 1and1? Thanks.

I've always had an issue with changing DNS information with them and transferring domains... their tech support leaves a little to be desired, and they are more expensive than a lot of other hosts that give more options and server space for a cheaper rate. They're one of the big dogs in hosting, and they charge like it to. Just my personal experience of course.

I've been with dreamhost for 2 years and they are fab. Offer completely private hosting (no details on whois lookup), and accept adult sites. Brilliant customer service, and widely accepted as the best hosting service. They are currently offering xmas special hosting for only $5.95 & free domains. Take a look
Message me for free stuff promo codes x

I've used Webair and would not recommend them due to unhelpful customer support. So far have been pretty satisfied with registering/hosting at GoDaddy.

1and1 does NOT allow adult content. I learned this the hard way then they emailed me at 3am and told me I had 1 hour to remove all adult content and transfer my domain.
It took a week to get the domain transfer allowed and another week for them to finally release the domain to Host Gator.
I couldn't find it in their TOS that adult content was not allowed, however they stripped my website down completely with little to no notice.
I strongly suggest Host Gator, they are so awesome with helping build the website and their customer service is awesome. They have easy install software and plugins for your website making addons so much easier!

I also have heard many good things about hosgator. seems to be trend in this thread lol. i plan on using hostgator when i can. but dude.... sometwat what happened? they took down everything and u lost ur content from them deleting it? depedning on how long ago that was u can take legal i think if it wasnt in the TOS when u made the site about having XXX content on thier servers what they did was not legal.

This will only apply to hosting - you can buy your domain through one company and host elsewhere.
I currently have a couple domains with GoDaddy, and haven't had issues, but haven't really used it. My other half has his site on godaddy and has done for years. He really likes them, but he is not in the adult industry.

I use godaddy for hosting and my domains and I've never had an issue in the two years I've been with them.

Moniker for names, Lunarpages for hosting.

GoDaddy is great. I use them for both registration and hosting. and they have an excellent affiliate program. No, 1and1 does not allow adult content. I use them for all my vanilla sites and have for years though and they've always been excellent.

Just as a FYI - GoDaddy supports the SOPA and related bills. Not a place you want to be hosting your adult sites in future times..

Re: Registering an adult domain - 2012 Update on best sites
I use godaddy and have for years. The UI is confusing as shit but they simplify it for me. I'm aware of their supposed SOPA support but I don't think it's as major as it sounds. If that's true, I've got my content backed up...I can move elsewhere. Could be a pain in the ass but I don't see SOPA really happening.

Re: Registering an adult domain - 2012 Update on best sites
I like Hostgator for hosting. They are fine with adult content EXCEPT live feeds, so don't host with them if you plan on getting a members site and want to have members shows or something. They don't allow that.
And have all of my domain names on NameCheap. Love them. Never had a problem with my domains there for the last 4 years.

Re: Registering an adult domain - 2012 Update on best sites
Thanks for all your responses!
So, I've got one more Q. Someone already owns my domain (he was going to help me build a site years ago but nothing really came of it.) I spoke with him and he said I can "have it" and suggested I open an account at moniker.com and he can "push" it to me. I'm confused.... lol.
Is this good or bad?

Re: Registering an adult domain - 2012 Update on best sites
just tell him to release it and give you the transfer code. Doing that will allow the person who enters that code with another host to take ownership of the domain.

Re: Registering an adult domain - 2012 Update on best sites
I second Namecheap. Between my husband and I, we have 6 domains registered there, and we have never had any issues with them.

Re: Registering an adult domain - 2012 Update on best sites
I use godaddy. I checked there TOS and as long as you don't post anything illegal you can have an adult website. They even have a special yoursite.xxx for adult sites although that is more expensive. It costs $100 year. I have never tried hostgator but I have heard about them before and they also host adult websites and are probably the next popular hosting and domain site next to godaddy.

Re: Registering an adult domain - 2012 Update on best sites
As learned yesterday by a camgirl on here, don't use Weebly. :) They're anti-adult content.

Godaddy hosting sucks, but they are the best place to buy and manage your domains.
