The artist's visa covers models, photographers, traditional artists, performing artists, etc. (I played around with the idea of teaching English in Japan for a couple years, but eventually just decided to teach myself the language and save up to go with a working holiday visa with my boyfriend sometime in the future.)
From the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan:
"If your objective is work or a long-term stay
Working visa: professor, artist, religious activities, journalist, investor/business manager, legal/accounting services, medical services, researcher, instructor, engineer, specialist in humanities/International Services"
"Period of stay 3 years or 1 year

One visa application form (nationals of Russia or NIS countries need to submit two visa application forms)
One photograph (nationals of Russia or NIS countries need to submit two photographs)
