free video editing software
So I figured maybe this would help out a few girls who are newbs to video editing such as myself. I was debating opening a c4s store, but I don't want to spend money before I decide that making clips is actually something I'd like to do, so here goes!

10 different editors and very briefly describes them. Anyone else with input on what they use would be great!

Re: free video editing software
I have used Camtasia and Premiere, but I only use Premiere now. I guess I just learned to use it and it has a lot of features, so I love it for that. I found it quite easy to use once I got the hang of it-- it probably took me 1 or 2 hours to get used to. There is also AfterEffects if you need to retouch or add more effects to videos. Depending on the editor you want to use, simple Googling may unearth a free version. :)
Re: free video editing software
I used Windows Live Movie Maker (came free with my version of Windows 7 - not sure if it's free for everyone?) It gets done what I need perfectly and is very simple.
I actually have a Macbook too and I hate the movie editing software that comes with it!
Re: free video editing software
Okay... I have Windows Movie Maker *and* Windows Live Movie Maker installed on my comp. Apparently the most recent version/s because nothing changed when I tried to update them. They've worked fine for me for years but now suddenly, WMM says I'm missing the codec to load the file or something and WLMM just shows a corrupted file when I try to load vids I record on the logitech webcam software. It's cramping my style big time and wasting precious $$ making time... Help?
Re: free video editing software
i could have swore i saw that Movie Maker (the newest version of WMM) was for Windows 8 only...i could be TOTALLY wrong,so dont quote me,but when i went to dl it I swear i remember it saying I had to have windows 8.So maybe thats why it doesnt look different? After i installed it on my computer,i was shocked to see that it looked soo much different from the other versions i had used in the past. But I also didnt have the last version before the newest one so i cant truly compare the two.Im really not of any help lol but i thought id just throw that out there.Sorry yours is giving you trouble!:computer:

Re: free video editing software
I just downloaded Windows Movie Maker to my windows 8 pc and it looks just like the WIndows Live in win7. The only immediate difference I see is that the default format is mpg4 instead of wmv? Also I just uploaded some clips to cs4 in this new format and it took an hour for one 30 mins for the other. I even used filezilla. Not sure what the problem is?

Re: free video editing software
I don't know if anyone still needs any more info on this but I use Videopad Video Editor. It's treated me very well. And if you need codecs, the k-lite codec pack is awesome
Re: free video editing software
I am a HUGE VirtualDub fan.
Re: free video editing software
I did not want to start a thread.. so here I am.
Which video converter is best for MULTIPLE videos at once? I tried Any Video Converter and for some reason, the videos keep converting into smaller video size or just being crappy. I need to convert about 50 clips. o.o hah!

Depends what you format you want to convert to....but I am really fond of WinFF (http://winff.org)
P.S. It is open-source and cross platform. ;)
Re: free video editing software
I want to convert from flv to avi so I can edit the videos.

Re: free video editing software
In case anyone is wondering -- I've graduated from being only being a huge VirtualDub fan to a huge VirtualDub & Avisynth fan.
They are a match made in free software heaven as long as you don't mind the huge learning curve. :D
Re: free video editing software
I did a bit of google on virtualdub and i don't see much of screenshots or did i look at wrong sites?

I use it for all my C4S clip converting so just let me know if there is anything you have problems with....but I am sure you will be fine because it is really user-friendly.
Re: free video editing software
Oh, if you are changing encoder files over and that is why you are doing flv files you really should look into Adobe F4V Post Processor tool.
For some reason the audio to the encoder files don't always sync up properly.
Re: free video editing software
ok great! tomorrow is gonna be interesting day.. about 30gb worth of videos to crop to certain parts. haha. i need to change my habit from auto-save records to manual records to save my space. haha

I ain't going to lie.....VirtualDub is hard to use....but they call it the 'Poor Man's Sony Vegas' for a reason.
It will let you do things that process a bunch of clips at the same time and queue up the job for later. It's a major time saver!
Re: free video editing software
oooh the sounds. crap. that is where i can't really sound check. hahah
Re: free video editing software
Ok, I am mind blown on how complicated VirtualDub and Avisynth are. Dug deeper in google and learned that neither runs FLV unless I make a script for them.
Is this how you do it?

At this point, the majority of my clip stuff is completely automated through batch file scripting so I just point and click and things run though by themselves. I think I actually made it way more complicated for you then I should have. You probably aren't interested in automation systems like I am. LOL!
Check out Freemake (http://www.freemake.com/). It is probably more what you need. :)
Re: free video editing software
haha. I am gonna use freemake for now and I will try and learn how ffmeg works. I am all for automated. Thanks to you, PhraseExpress and many other stuff make my life much easier on camming. :) If I do not have to write new script for every and each video I need to convert or whatever, then I am up for hard ass curve of learning. :)
