I might have to give up camming...
So I've been camming for 3 months now and never had a problem. Tonight our new neighbors father came over and told my boyfriend (rudely) that we needed to quit yelling at people. I hadn't even had a fucking private all night so apparently me talking in a normal voice is more than enough to be a problem. Any ideas or suggestions, girls? Do you think that you can still make money if you only type? I'm so pissed off right now, I don't know what to do.

Re: I might have to give up camming...
Do you live in an apartment... If so can you move to a room that doesn't share a wall with the neighbors.
Or you could tell them to butt out. I'm pretty sure they can't do anything about it.. They can only call a noise complaint after a certain time (like 10pm) and most apartment complexes don't do anything about complaints especially if they come to your door and don't hear you being loud.

Re: I might have to give up camming...
I do live in an apartment. But we only have a living room and a bedroom. I don't even know what to do. It makes me mad that we live in such an expensive apartment yet the walls are so thin that speaking in a normal tone can be heard outside.

I hear ya..lived in many apts., & almost all of them had super thin walls..the exception being a condo I lived in (that was overpriced rent wise), it had cement block walls. Even through that I heard my neighbor's tv (he was older & had it turned up prob. way loud, it didn't bother me, but just sayin')

Re: I might have to give up camming...
Maybe you can figure out when they work and cam then so you don't bother them. I have the same problem in my apartment...just a bed room and living room..no hallway or anything with super thin walls...so I'm pretty sure my whole building knows what I do... It probably doesn't help I accidentally left the window open last week while working..lol
Is there anyway you could get out of your lease and move?

Re: I might have to give up camming...
That's what I'm trying to figure out right now. I don't want to have to move but I don't know what else to do. And I'm scared of working earlier in the day, I've never been a day girl and I'm scared that I'll just spend hours online for no money... I'm just so upset right now.

If you don't heavily rely on your regulars I dont think switching to day will hurt you too bad. Your on SM right?
For the longest time I was a day girl even though I made slightly more at night...for me there are less beggars and freeloaders durin the day...the morning around 8am est used to be the best before I switched to only nights. Remember if you decide to try day shift you won't make any money of you don't think you will. Be confident and you'll gain new regs in no time.

Re: I might have to give up camming...
Try soundproofing? By using foam egg crates and blankets, you can soundproof a room reasonably well.

Re: I might have to give up camming...
Try getting a wireless headset & microphone or Bluetooth for your computer then you can speak quieter during shows but guys will still hear you loud and clear along with a fan or download a white noise sound from offline to use to block out incoming/outgoing noise. That may help babe. =)

Re: I might have to give up camming...
Hun, don't be upset. You can still cam, just don't talk too loud. Your cam microphone picks up a lot! It picks up a soft speaking voice that won't go though the wall. I cam with low music on and I talk really softly when my roomies are home. Noone has ever complained about not being able to hear me. Turn up your mic sensitivity in the site settings.

Re: I might have to give up camming...
Thanks, guys. I realize I might have slightly overreacted. It just made me feel so horrible. My boyfriend texted me and said "Stop working, please. I have never been more embarrassed." and then described to me how the neighbor just came and yelled at him. And HustletteDiva, do you think guys will dislike if I'm using a headset?

No, I don't think you overreacted..some neighbors are complete jackass whiny bitches that try to guilt someon! It sounds like he (neighbor) overreacted, actually!

Call me anti Social , but if my neighbours started to complain about me carrying out my daily life , - ie talking at a reasonable tone , in my own home, I would tell them to go fuck themselves ...... Don't you all just wish you lived next to happy me :)

Yeah, my point exactly!

Re: I might have to give up camming...
Somehow, I think you are feeling guilty about camming. As another has said, speak more softly and turn up your mike(if U can) .
Furthermore, if your talk bothers them, tell them to play music. U are not doing anything illegal! I had a neighbor, who had such loud sex, everyone heard them.....some folks were kinda pissed but some enjoyed it.
They can also move......but I wouldn't.

Re: I might have to give up camming...
Just out of curiosity, but are you sure your boyfriend didn't blow things out of proportion because he's trying to get you to quit anyway?
Seems kind of strange to me that he wants you to quit at the first mention of the neighbor coming to talk to him.

No, he just meant to finish my shift for the night. He's more than proud of me for doing this. :)

Wow... No... I'm definitely not feeling guilty about it. It's just my only real source of income and to have someone bitch because I was speaking in a regular tone trying to do my job was more than a little frustrating. Especially since my neighbors weren't trying to sleep (their lights were on till after 2am) they were just bitching cuz they heard my voice.

Re: I might have to give up camming...
cool. That would've sucked :)

Re: I might have to give up camming...
There is absolutely no need to quit camming or move apartments when you can quite easily and cheaply soundproof. Why would you even think about giving up a job you enjoy when you can just throw up some egg crates and thick blankets on the wall you share with your neighbor? That doesn't even make any sense to me.
I occassionally type but usually talk in a regular speaking voice. When I am in privates guys like it when I get VERY loud. So I do. I mean I live alone so I'm not disturbing anyone so who cares? I live in a ghetto apartment and the walls are thin so I'm sure my neighbors hear me but if they bratty loud mouthed kids can run around screaming on my balcony and in the courtyard at all hours of morning, noon, and night, I can certainly make some noise in my own apartment. I cam both mornings and evenings, btw. Never once had a complaint, but then again I also never complains when the neighbor's kids are being louder than hell so maybe in my community noise is just expected and put up with?

I'm going to try the sound proofing thing. It's just completely beyond me why they would complain about me TALKING. I overreacted a bit probably because I've been so stressed about money this week and had to cut myself short on my last day I can work this period. I'm definitely gonna go get come egg crates ASAP.

Re: I might have to give up camming...
^Until you get egg crates, seriously, I'd say just keep doing what you're doing and screw your neighbor. As long as your aren't screaming and playing loud music at all hours of the night they have no right to come and tell you what you can and cannot do in your apartment. If you are really just speaking in cam at a normal volume how can they even complain??? Would your landlord even do anything?
-
Re: I might have to give up camming...
I have no idea. I'm sure if they lied and claimed they were sleeping our landlord might contact me about it. I just don't get it. I think part of their problem is that they just moved in and have no furniture or anything so if they hear anything from my room it bounces around their empty room too. I told my bf if they say anything again to tell them I telecommunicate for work and that these are the hours I work.
