Ikea furniture
My furniture is about 7 years old and I'm in desperate need to remodel. My only fear is my children. I have twin boys who will be 3 in May and their favorite activity is destroying everything in site.
I don't want to invest in expensive furniture as my kids are not 100% potty trained yet. I also can't hold off anymore because my couches are completely destroyed. I browsed the ikea website and they have some really pretty and inexpensive stuff. My only concern is does it actually last a few years?

Re: Ikea furniture
all my ikea furniture lasts just fine as long as you dont move. only some of my ikea furniture survived my last move. check out walmart, actually got better quality furniture from there for cheaper.

Re: Ikea furniture
I don't know where you live, but definitely check Craigslist under furniture-by-dealer. I found my microfiber sectional two years ago for $400; I needed something strong enough to handle a move and a toddler at the time. Now, I'm upgrading stuff, but it's been nice to have a cute black and zebra sectional for so little. Ikea is good for metal and glass pieces, IMO. I have glass and metal tables and a metal bed frame for my kiddo with no problems. Couches there tend to be small; you could find something a little nicer and bigger for the same price on CL.
Happy furniture hunting!!!

Re: Ikea furniture
I got my Ikea furniture when kiddo was 4...I wanted a fun home she could *live* in not have to be careful with lol And it lasted through bed / couch jumping in her tot years, plus about 5 moves... I only just got rid of my furniture at my last move cause after 10 years, I was bored with having them, and sold most of it on craigs still in good condition. When I did my moves though, I took them apart and put it back together which probably helped reduce stress on them.
The nice thing is, I moved in here with nothing except my dining table (which wasnt from Ikea...too expensive to let go of) And yup, went and bought all Ikea furniture again...furnished my whole apartment for less than $1k. Granted I put everthing together, and also I painted our beds before putting them together, but it looks pretty nice. I plan to get rid of everything in 2yrs again anyway, but know I will be able to sell it...People snatch up Ikea furniture on Craigs quick, so the resell value is pretty good.

Re: Ikea furniture
Another thumbs up for Ikea. Got tables & couches for the kids to destroy when they were young........now the kids are 16 & 13.....They survived jumping, general roughness, spills........still going strong.
I recommend it highly for your purposes......

Re: Ikea furniture
I'm looking myself at Ikea for some kids furniture, chair or futon for my boys room. I don't think the quality is that bad but you do get what you pay for.

Re: Ikea furniture
Ikea is great for the tables, shelves, etc., but since you mentioned the kids not being fully potty trained yet, it sounds more like you are talking about couch, chair, loveseat, etc.
If so, then it all depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking just to get something as good as possible as cheap as possible, you could always even look at thrift stores like goodwill or salvation army. My couch I had in college was from goodwill and cost me $25, yet it was in great condition, and when I moved, I just gave it away. If you go with the Ikea chairs, couch, and things you will be paying a lot more, but still affordable, and you have the benefit of it being new stuff.
Either way is ok.
