Current Status of music in clubs
I don't get out to the SCs much any more, but I was in Rick's in NO and the music was unidentifiable. I don't think they played 1 commercial tune. Is this because of royalty issues, or are they just .......
Music can add so much to the atmosphere and money-making potential of a club, is it now pretty much neglected?
Does the DJ / ipod select your music, or do you have a voice anymore?

Re: Current Status of music in clubs
It's unlikely to be royalty issues and moreso the DJ's taste in music or the atmosphere the club is going for. Older businessmen don't often care for modern commercial tunes, so a club trying to cater to them won't play as much top 40 music.
Whether the DJ or dancer picks the dancer's music depends on the club.
