Keeping a vanilla YouTube channel while camming?
So.. I have had a YT channel for a few months now. I have over 100 subscribers. I do beauty/fashion hauls, reviews, that sort of thing. It's really fun and I like doing it. I also make a little money from it but not much. Basically it's a fun hobby for me.
Anyway, now that I am camming I am concerned that these two things will overlap.
I'm not worried about any of my vanilla viewers discovering I'm in the adult industry, I am more concerned that anyone who views me on cam will find this YT channel and something bad could come of it.
Has anyone dealt with this before?

Re: Keeping a vanilla YouTube channel while camming?
This will probably be mortifying for you, but a childhood friend of mine used to (well, does, but has since had to change names about 10 times) do makeup tutorials and hauls and everything, and I don't really know the whole story, but I do know that she started camming on MFC and people caught on and there was a lot of messed up things said/done to her. If you want, I will PM you the username she used while camming (she doesn't do it anymore to my knowledge), but you can google it and her whole frickin story will come up on about 3 guru gossip sites. It's a shame.

Whats funny is, I was just about to post that as a scenario that would likely happen if she got really popular whether on youtube or camming. That fact of the matter is, 99.9999999% of the time, the ones who talk shit about sexworkers are women. And 99.99999% of the time, beauty blogs and the like are run by women. I don't know why this is, but I swear the beauty industry is a stepping stone into or out of the adult industry... like for those who do not want to get naked and who are violently opposed to it, or want to try it but are too scared. This is just my experience, but as someone who worked in the beauty industry for years, its just what I saw over and over again.
What sucks about the beauty/makeup industry is that its all a matter of facade and prestige. Different MUAs have different brand preferences, product recommendations, and application techniques, and literally the difference between $0 and $1,000 income is just being able to sell yourself. Or being able to convince others to buy the products you recommend. Its really competitive. So any time a girl sees another girl doing something "wrong," she will be bashed. I've seen it time and time again. A big reason why I left that industry. I didn't want to suck up to someone whose "talent" (read: good networking skills) I didn't really admire/was neutral about, but it must be done if you want to go somewhere in that industry. Its 50% sucking up to people who aren't even that talented + networking, 40% branding, and 10% actual talent. And I was tired of hanging out with the biggest gossipers ever. The more you gossiped, the more people liked you. I mean, I still had fun, but you really have to make that your life and give it your all or it just won't be successful.
That being said, I personally would not keep the beauty youtube channel. You can keep a youtube, just cater to your audience and NOT to women! Cater to men, or make it about your pet or something. Don't do anything beauty-related unless you want a bashing. If you really want to continue on, I would just put the name under your cam name anyway. That way no bitchy cutthroat girl will write a dumb blog ~*exposing you*~ for hits.

Re: Keeping a vanilla YouTube channel while camming?
Thanks guys. If it makes a different I mainly do thrift hauls and talk about bargains. I'm not one to do makeup tutorials or anything like that. There are definitely a lot of snooty girls on YouTube, especially since some of them are making a shit ton of money on it.
Also, I don't care really if people on my channel know I'm in the adult industry, I guess I was more concerned about a potential stalker situation or something like that.
I actually think that if I did get outed it could help normalize sex workers, that we have other interests, that we're normal people, etc.
It is something that I really enjoy so it would be really hard to give it up :(

Re: Keeping a vanilla YouTube channel while camming?
Whilst I agree with GlamourRouge, I will say that if you have a thick skin and / or gossip and shitty drama doesn't affect you, do keep in mind that if your YouTube audience find your camming page, or your camming audience find your YouTube page, and either one or either of those things are moderately to very successful, you stand to make more money... Possibly a lot more money, possibly even a fuck-ton of money, depending on how popular either gets, or even how much of a stir you cause.
Bitches might expose you on their blog or whatever for hits, but keep in mind she'll also weirdly be doing you a favor by spreading the word about you, thus give you more hits / cash too. Monetize your videos!
You could even ride the wave of drama pretty happily, knowing full well that on the internet, attention usually means cash... There are plenty of YouTubers who get flooded with hate comments, death threats, and shit of all kinds, who simply make far, far too much money to give a flying fuck.
I have a YouTube channel that I use for advertising my cammodels link... I have barely paid any attention to that channel, and I really need to get my ass in gear and start actually working on it, but they all have thousands of views, with my top highest viewed having views of 40k+. Not amazing, but not fucking bad, it's still pretty damn good for how little work I've put into it (just uploading short clips with the cammodels link).
So yeah... I think if I were you, and I really wanted to have a side-gig on YouTube for makeup or whatever, and didn't mind about being outed, I'd even play up as a cute, sexy innocent character on my YouTube channel to make people want to see me naked, so that when they actually discover my camming stuff, the internet will just explode and it'll start raining spunk and page hits and cash and everywhere...

Re: Keeping a vanilla YouTube channel while camming?
[email protected] spunk. And then you can do a tutorial on how to get the spunk OUT of your eye ;) Clear eye drops, a warm rag, and some concealer and white pencil underneath the lid to brighten it up should do the trick. lol.

Re: Keeping a vanilla YouTube channel while camming?
I have wondered this too as I do other stuff on the net as well. I think there is a pretty big risk for cam stalkers to find your make up page. What I'd do if I were you is keep the beauty youtube hidden from your real life just as you do your camming persona. Not necessarily as secretive but just so that you aren't having your personal social networking sites linked or friends saying your real name or linking to their channels where people may find more info about you. If I were you, I'd create a whole new persona for the make up channel. Well, fake name & location at least.
I still think it's risky though. But I can imagine how much fun it is so just be super careful with your personal info over there. Or as the others have said, you could be open about being a cam star and let each aspect bring business to the other. Just keep your legitimate personal details very private.

Re: Keeping a vanilla YouTube channel while camming?
I know this isn't directly related, but the entire time I had my adult website I also ran a "mommy blog" on the side, and both were really popular. I personally never had anyone "put the two together" or try to be all stalker-ish, but then again I didn't make it really known that I was the same person. I think as long as you don't use the same names and stuff you should be alright.

Re: Keeping a vanilla YouTube channel while camming?
I deleted my Facebook back when I was escorting and have no other social profiles, there are a few sites that have my pic associated with my real name from HS though, so not sure what I could do about that.
@SarahTime do you still have your mommy blog or did you decide it was too much of a risk?
Someone needs to make a cam girl makeup tutorial!! Sounds like you'll be up for it Kourtney! lol
-
Re: Keeping a vanilla YouTube channel while camming?
Lol I second that! There should just be a channel with makeup, care tips, all of that good stuff! Even if it is a collab channel.
-
Re: Keeping a vanilla YouTube channel while camming?
I think that it depends on what you are concerned about!
If you are concerned about a cam custy seeing the channel and being able to stalk you...well, just make sure that you are as safe on YouTube as you are on cam! I.e. don't use your real name, don't give out fb, real e-mail, give-away clues to where you live, etc etc.
Other than that, yes, they may well cross over, but like Incantatious said, you could probably use that to your advantage, as long you have a thick skin...

Re: Keeping a vanilla YouTube channel while camming?
well i was going to start a fitness channel since I just got certified in personal training and I am a camgirl aalso so we'll see how that goes lol

Re: Keeping a vanilla YouTube channel while camming?
Ive seen some of those guru gossip sites and they are just pure hatred! But then again imagine being an insecure woman mad at the world, which im sure will give you more than enough time to search and google things about others whove you never met. Ive seen girls being exposed for being escorts, strippers, etc whether its true or not. NOW if you have thick skin then fuck it but if not defitnitely keep them seperate and hope for the best:)

Re: Keeping a vanilla YouTube channel while camming?
I say~ Just do ALL and EVERYTHING that You enjoy doing, and will make You money.
I watched a segment on a talk show recently that explained how YOUTUBE instructional videos can be very, very lucrative.
Just ask Yourself one question~ If You are found out by someone, on either site, "WILL that person be paying ALL of Your bills for the rest of Your life?" If so, then, take the offensive one down to get Your money from that person. (in my experience, NOBODY IS EVER WILLING TO HELP ME OUT,when it comes to money. They scatter like the wind.

Re: Keeping a vanilla YouTube channel while camming?
I used to blog about my thrift finds a few years ago and it was so much fun! I seriously love thrift store shopping. Once I entered the adult industry, I deleted my FB, blogs, everything. I've wanted to start vlogging my finds but I've wondered if my camming is going to bite me in the ass. I'm at the point where I don't care anymore though...I have so much cool stuff that I want to show off. You're right, it's hard to give up once you've started doing it. I hope you don't mind that you're inspiring me to take it back up again! If you're a camgirl, you (presumably) know how to keep yourself safe online and have a thick skin so I think you should continue doing what you enjoy.

No, I don't anymore but it was just because I got sick of my husbands ex wife stalking it. LOL!
I removed myself from the internet completely for a while because of her. But now that I'm older and wiser... lol.... she can fuck off. If she wants to look like a crazy obsessive freak.... I'll let her.

Re: Keeping a vanilla YouTube channel while camming?
Definitely going to emphasize to be careful! It can be easy to click the wrong thing and let a video show where it was filmed/uploaded from. Not that I know anyone who has done that or anything. Nope.

Aw well that sucks! Good to know it was from a crazy person that had nothing to do with camming though lol! It just proves that crazy people can strike no matter what you're doing online!

I forgot about that! Yeah I don't remember if I had checked that box or not from my previous uploads I'll have to check but I will definitely make sure! Thanks for that.

Re: Keeping a vanilla YouTube channel while camming?
I just dreamt about this last night. Don't do it if the vanilla channel is tied to you personally in any way. If its just another anonymous persona then no big deal.

Re: Keeping a vanilla YouTube channel while camming?
I laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahve guru gossip sites. I spend most of my time on there just reading the stupid shit people say. Bahaha I am pretty sure I know who got outed on the sites. If you have thick skin I would not worry about it. Just be vague and anon about stuff. You will be fine.
I can personally tell you about the women on those sites lololololol
Most of them are really insecure and older in their 40's 60's. I have seen what a lot of them look like and I swear to god they could stop a train right in its tracks. Bored housewives with nothing else to do. I have went to war trolling their ugly asses for demeaning sex workers. lololol

I put the periods in between cus they're obsessed with googling the sites name and being talked about. They'd be like "OMMGGG STRIPPERZ BE TALKING BOUT US LLOOLLLL. DUM SLUTS."
I read the site, pure entertainment. These girls are pathetic and they spend literally ALL OF THEIR TIME scrutinizing the YT beauty community. They were talking about this 14 year old girl, who apparently had her tampon string showing in a video, and instead of messaging her letting her know they're all like "LOL, IM SAVING THIS B4 SHE DELETES IT SO I CAN POST IT EVERYWHERE. STUPID BITCH SLUT TAMPON STRING. LOLOL."
"OMG DIS BITCH BOUGHT A LOUIS VUITTON. I HOPE SOMEONE STEALS IT LMAOOOOO I WUD LAUGH."
... just about sums up the site.

Re: Keeping a vanilla YouTube channel while camming?
