i want 2 strip , i work at MAC , should i start as a Makeup Artist to get a feel for the strip club atmosphere ? - Houston
what would be the best club for me to start in Houston (as a stipper or MUA)... i dont want anything trashy.. Mid-to-Upper Class prefered.
thank you all for your help.

if you want to strip, i'd just research clubs in the area, go in, talk to the girls, pay for a lap dance, and then just go for it. if you want to strip, then strip. a lot of girls feel like they can't take that first step and become waitresses, hostesses, makeup artists ( altho i haven't encountered a lot of them in the clubs), but in reality i don't think it makes it easier..just go for what you want, balls to the wall i say.

Thank you Simone87
i know, im just scared, and i dont know why... as wierd as this sounds , i think i would be good at it (altough maybe i wont at first),.. i am a trained dancer since i was 7, i am taking pole classes now , i consider myself a very soultry (when i put on the act), and after getting my Masters degree i had a very competative and stressful sales job.

its normal to feel scared, i was shaking when i first started but its so worth it! made me feel proud of myself for getting up there too, and i didn't have the dancing experience that you do..im sure you'll be great.

I can't think of any clubs here that have makeup artists. I've seen one girl charge to do someone's makeup before a shift, but she was a dancer and the other girls just liked her makeup, so she came in early to do theirs. No clue what she charged.
There are plenty of club discussions on the subject of Houston's offerings in Club Chat. It really depends on what side you're on/whether you're willing to drive across the city.

I have never seen a makeup artist in a club, but I do think it would be a good way to make money for you if you called a club and found out if maybe they would let you try it out on a Friday or Saturday night, and let the girls know a few days beforehand that you'll be there those nights charging $x.
If there were a MAC mua in the dressing rooms, I would totally try getting my makeup done before my shift a few times!
That said, if you are just looking for a way to transition into dancing, don't waste your time. Go straight for the big bucks and just jump right in! Your first couple of shifts dancing are going to be pretty nervewracking no matter what you do, you might as well get the hard part over with and just go audition and start working!

I have a makeup artist at my club, but she does not strip and I don't think she ever has. You need to figure out what you want, if you actually want to strip than I suggest just going straight into dancing like aperfectseal said. However, the makeup lady is extremely popular among us girls so if you really like doing makeup, it may be the thing for you! Ours charges by session, so its 20$ for makeup 20$ for hair and she also does waxing. She also does touch ups throughout the night for tips.

I know a lot of Boston area and NYC clubs have makeup and hair artists and most I've encountered worked or still work for Mac. Apparently in that circle landing a club job is extremely coveted. At my club we've had the same girls for years. One spends half the week out of town but comes back for her shifts there and the other ones are waiting for her to finally leave in hope of getting her shifts. They all knew somebody there to get the job. So if that's what you want to do start networking with other artists. If you want to dance go in and audition or try an amateur night. Although they're in the same building you couldn't gain any dancer related experience doing makeup there.

Working in the club as a make up artist isn't going to give you a feel for the atmosphere at all. You'll be in the dressing room the entire shift painting girls' faces on and touching them on; you won't be out on the floor getting comfortable with customers or on stage getting comfortable being naked (or topless). The best way to get a feel for the atmosphere is to just dance - you'll even make some money that way. ;)
