bumping into family and friends...How to deal
So I want to audition at this club not far from my house but I am terrified I will bump into one of my dad's sleazy friends or some jerks from my neighborhood...I can't afford to commute starting out and the clubs in the city require gowns which I can't afford and I quit my job so the pennies and foodstamps cant buy me one. I plan to work at more popular clubs like perfections and Sin city once I've established myself as a dancer and I will be telling my family I'm a bartender until then. I'm certain they will find out before I plan to reveal it. That's just my luck in life.. but in the event that they shun me I would like to have some money for me and my son to move from my grandparents home if necessary, so it is best if this remains a secret as long as possible. If I bump into my dad himself I'm sure he'd throw an awesomely rage table flipping fit ( he and I don't get along so much, he is already ashamed of my 3 year old son he is all about his image and his friends would probably see me dancing so he would be more ashamed) I'm not concerned with my family's feelings so much. I'm more worried about a club firing me if I bump into someone who makes a scene. Any one have experience with this or any advice to offer? Also would it look bad if I turned a lapdance offer..my dad knows a lot of people so I was raised knowing several "uncles" but I'm certain some of them are sleazy enough to still want a dance, possibly even eager ewwwww. am I allowed to say no?

I would never dance in my own town because of a similar situation to you, your dad might have friends that go to the strip club and recognize you.

As far as saying no goes, that's one of the upsides of being in this business. No one can force you to dance for sm1.
If you have absolutely no other option than to dance in your home area, well, you may just have to bite the bullet as far as running into ppl who know you. Some places will let you hide in the back until the customer leaves, if you see them before they see you, just a thought. Also, if it ever does get back you your table-flipping father, ask him exactly how he rationalises his or his friends' patronisation of such establishments if they are really as sleazy as they say.

Yea I think I'm gonna go for it. No one pays my bills but me.
