Covering Tattoos! Tips and Tricks
I'm a dancer and I'm offering some advice on how to cover your tattoos. It's always good to start with a clean surface (I exfoliate and shave). Make sure to moisturize well about 30 minutes before the coverup process. I start with outlining the tattoo in an orange-y, red-toned, or rose-y lip liner (depends on the color of the tat; you can experiment to find what works for you). Dermablend is great as a body foundation. Make sure when you buy it to sample the colors in NATURAL OUTSIDE LIGHTING. They can look lighter in stores and you can walk home with a foundation that makes you look like you got a bad spray tan (unless that's the look you're going for lol). From that point forward, it's a process of patting, blending, and powdering until you have the finish you want. I suggest you use Urban Decay Setting Spray afterwards to make it last. Also, videos on YouTube will give you a variety of techniques you can try and experiment with until you find what works for you. Don't be afraid also to invest money in good foundation products. It takes money to make money :) Feel free to share and discuss your methods below, or ask questions!
Re: Covering Tattoos! Tips and Tricks
I use crushed up salmon color eyeshadow or blush mixed with dermablend to cover mine when need to. I use the dermablend smooth indulgence ?concealer instead of their foundation. This good advice,
I never thought of using lipliner, and will try that it might take less time for me.
Re: Covering Tattoos! Tips and Tricks
That's a great idea! I've tried lipliner bc it's thicker and dense with color. Usually I line the tattoo (particularly in places that need it) and then I use a concealer brush to gently blend the liner around the tattoo, spreading it only a little bit, and then I let it dry for like 20 mins depending on how thick I made it. I've been Googling it like crazy to find other methods. I've also heard that using Sally Hansen Leg Makeup over the tattoo coverup helps hide it even more.
Re: Covering Tattoos! Tips and Tricks
I don't know , I ve never tried Sally's brand. I seen a girl use covergirl thick cream foundation , the kind with a sponge. She kept caking and sponging and looked pretty good. I don't know how well that lasted though. I am excited try lipliner on it,it seems genius.
Re: Covering Tattoos! Tips and Tricks
I forgot also I dust bronzer over after the dermablend to make it match better lol
Re: Covering Tattoos! Tips and Tricks
Oh bronzer definitely helps. The nice thing about any of the tattoo coverup is that we work in a dark environment.. so it all looks good anyways haha. I'm going to Baton Rouge soon to work and I've heard it's super conservative down there, so I've been practicing my techniques lately. I have like half a sleeve, a forearm piece, one on my bicep the size of an orange, and script on both sides of my torso. I'm probably just going to cover the arms since they would be considered the most "obnoxious."

Re: Covering Tattoos! Tips and Tricks
I remember hearing about this stuff ,I have never tried it though. Looks pretty good http://www.colortration.com/bna.htm
Re: Covering Tattoos! Tips and Tricks
the trial kit is $17.00 of the regular, for the tattoo coverup its $38.00
Re: Covering Tattoos! Tips and Tricks
I used Dermablend Leg and Body Cover for years with mixed results. I'd just tap it on with my fingers in multiple layers and sometimes it would turn out fine, but other times it looked like a mess. Using a sponge has solved all my problems though. I don't recommend brushes though, they made the problems even worse.
Also, when you try on Dermablend covers, make sure you wait for it to dry completely. I bought a shade that looked perfect initially, but by the time I got home it looked dark and kind of gray.
