Diarrhea? Just wanted to share something to help...
Hi everyone! I hope this is the right place to post this, but I've battled being food sensitive for years, can't pinpoint any one food, drs. just give me belladonna to help with spasms, etc. Irritible bowel syndrome isn't my point here, or my issues, we all get diarrhea sometimes-like me today, and all I had different last night was having onions, so that's just weird-but went to my faithful, better than Imodium, help.
I don't know about you, but Imodium, liquid or pills, just never work for me. So 5 years ago a Phillipine friend of mine said she always used cornstarch for her kids diarrhea. I looked at her funny, she looked at me as if I was crazy for not knowing this, and pried further.
She said to take 2 or 3 tablespoons of cornstarch and put into a cup/glass. Add 7 up, sprite, coke, whatever soda you like. Get a teaspoon and stir it thoroughly-it will be "hard" (similar to oobleck you make with your kids to play with, cornstarch and water concoction that's hard when you touch, but then liquify, and get hard again). Be sure to keep stirring till nothing is "hard" but all blended and stir rapidly so it's still swirling as you chug it down. that's it.
I've used it on all 4 of my kids when nothing else would work, and they'd be better within the hour. Wouldn't shit for a couple days, lol, it's like clay, clogging you up.
Used it myself a gazillion times, although for me I usually get a coffee cup and fill it 1/3 with cornstarch and sprite, so more than a couple tablespoons. Better within the hour, instead of literally on the toilet all day, back and forth, 10 hours straight and even having to stay up really really late because being afraid to sleep. Can't really sleep when you're still having issues.
Anyways, just wanted to share this natural, albeit crazy, yet powerful cure. It will stop it.

I have a friend that has colitis that I met here & was seeing for a period, was a mod in this section. I was going to tell her about something I found about IBS but waiting for the study to be released but I know someone that is doing research & this is what he found.
DWGE (Digestive Wheat Germ Extract) is a gluten free mixture of biologically active materials which have a beneficial effect in the digestive process also.
It is estimated that up to 90% of ingested carbohydrates escape digestion in the small intestine and reach the colon. Here, DWGE performs a different function. It acts as a prebiotic. A prebiotic is a selectively fermented ingredient that allows specific changes, both in the composition and/or activity in the gastrointestinal microflora that confers benefits upon host well-being and health. In addition DWGE contains short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). New research has preliminarily demonstrated that SCFAs provide many benefits, both locally in the colon, and in the rest of the body. DWGE also aids in the production of various butyrates (salts of butyric acid) has recently received attention as possibly being protective of colon tissues from damage, including colon cancer and ulcerative colitis.
DWGE supports healthy immune system modulation and the regulation of cell metabolism, supporting the processes of cell differentiation and repair.*
• Increases immune system’s ability to identify harmful cells for destruction
• Regulates glucose metabolism at the cellular level, starving enemy cells that require excessive glucose
• Regulates and modulate the immune system’s white blood cells for peak performance -- T cells, B cells, macrophages and NK cells
• Maintains healthy cellular and humoral (Th1/Th2) immune balance
• Supports cell metabolic regulation
• Promotes immune system modulation
• Promotes optimal NK cell targeting ability and the coordinated response of white blood cells: macrophages, B-cells, T-cells and NK cells
• Enhances the ability of T-cells to respond to antigen presentation
Other possible benefits include:
• lower cholesterol
• lower triglycerides
• improved insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism
• improved immune system function.

He is coming out with a product that should help & I'm waiting to see.

Thanks, Unbeleavable! Keep me posted! It's just weird with me, I'm not a picky eater, don't have allergies, yet out of the blue SOMETHING will just attack me to no end for a whole 24 hours! Like every couple of months, when I have a problem, it's like my intestines are just ripping apart. But it's so few and far between, I can't pinpoint it, like gluten or whatever.
Re: Diarrhea? Just wanted to share something to help...
i had this sort of problem till i got diagnosed with a gluten allergy... i wondered for years why i had diarrhea everyday of my life. I've been gluten free for a year and half now and have never felt better
Re: Diarrhea? Just wanted to share something to help...
Sometimes even being gluten free doesn't do it for some & attacks happen with digestion.
Re: Diarrhea? Just wanted to share something to help...
Yea, thanks Lum, but it's not an everyday thing, it's just really bad when it happens.
Re: Diarrhea? Just wanted to share something to help...
The herb slippery elm is very good for diarrhea, however I think it's kind of overharvested
Re: Diarrhea? Just wanted to share something to help...
Have you ever tried it with just water instead of soda? Or do you think the soda is necessary for more than just taste?
Re: Diarrhea? Just wanted to share something to help...
Got to have it with soda, or juice I suppose, for taste. Otherwise, in water, it will taste like you're drinking chalk-ew!
Re: Diarrhea? Just wanted to share something to help...
Oh my goodness, who would have thought someone on SW would have the same symptoms as me?
It's so frustrating because I can eat normal stuff (typical day is cereal, sandwiches, chicken and veggies for dinner; nothing you'd think would set it off) and I'll randomly get sick and have to be very careful to eat bland food the next 12 hours. Then for the next several days, things like coffee, spicy food, milk, sushi, etc. will set it off again. This goes on for several days. It's such a weird pattern because I can't cut out one specific thing and it only happens about once a month, but is good for 3-4 days of annoyance.
Have the doctors suggested it might be a disease of some sort? I know I am genetically predisposed to Crohn's, but I'm hoping that's not what it is because that ish SUCKS :(
Re: Diarrhea? Just wanted to share something to help...
I had a dr do the whole stool sample thing, yuck, but were looking for parasites....blood work never flags anything, but yea Selina, I can never figure out like it's this or that, my daughter says she has moments like that and says it's just stress, that stress can just freak out your digestive system but geez, we're talking EXPLOSIVE for no reason, but acts like food poisoning or something, anyways, corn starch is a great help for the normal 12 hours of running to the bathroom to stop.
Re: Diarrhea? Just wanted to share something to help...
Its probably gluten. If not, its probably dairy (casein). If not, its probably sugar or artificial sugar. If not, its probably soy.

Re: Diarrhea? Just wanted to share something to help...
It's not perfect, I do eat "junk foods" like pizza and lasagna and stuff, but I eat just as much whole grains, fruits and veggies. I love healthy foods but I do have a weakness for the junk as well. I don't seem to have dairy issues, but it could be gluten, although I eat pizza and bready stuff with no problem. Sometimes I just have a wonderful salad and have an issue. It only happens once a month or so, but I can't seem to figure out why. At least I have my cornstarch!
Re: Diarrhea? Just wanted to share something to help...
Strange.. because most people that have these issues either have them with stress or diet but yours seems to not have a patten.
Re: Diarrhea? Just wanted to share something to help...
I have exactly the same thing! Even on a perfect diet of fresh veggies, fruit and beans, with nuts and seeds.. Yay cornstarch!
Re: Diarrhea? Just wanted to share something to help...
I've nvr heard of using cornstarch for such a thing, but it makes sense. Before my Cockatiel died I always made sure there was sm cornstarch set aside in his bag of emergency supplies, in case a blood feather or a claw broke. Those little guys can bleed out before you know it, so applying cornstarch to the wound would cause it to clot quickly. Thnx for the recommendation!

Actually, now I've been taking Zoloft for almost 2 months and also started a Ketogenic diet, and one or the other, or both, seems to have cured me! So, yeah! So stress, or diet-keto is high fat, moderate protein, low carb-I've eliminated all sugar and anything starchy as that turns into sugar, so no rice, pasta, potatoes, etc. Maybe it was a gluten thing, but all I know is I am now never hungry and am losing weight! Sure don't feel like when I've tried other "diets"...keto is basically Atkins, just a bit stricter. Anyways, thanks for all your input!
