That these ladies made a specific point of it tells me it' an important issue to them. Good on you I say! Gotta be more of you I figured and some I have spoken to in the past (like terminator Melonie!)
So what do you shoot? Where do you shoot? What do you have? What do you prefer the most in your collection? Do you have your own collection or tend to use someone else stuff? Ever take any courses? Compete at all?
What about an SW range day where you (and significant other and or friends) and other SW members meet up and have a "blast" ? :)
I have done that before via other forums - some firearms related some not - and it's always a good time, and some learning and teaching is had.

Re: SW Ladies that like to shoot?
i have a walther p22. i love to go shooting. i dont have my license to carry yet (mostly because i've been to busy and i dont feel comfortable with the responsibility of carrying yet). i haven't taken any classes yet due to time restrictions but i have a friend who is an instructor at sig arms and a friend who is a member at a popular shooting range and we go and shoot a lot. i want to get more involved in gun right advocacy groups, right now i'm just a facebook slacktivist -________-

Re: SW Ladies that like to shoot?
i love shooting! (but then you knew that) my first time i was 13, with a .22 then later with a 30.06. i haven't gotten to shoot in awhile i really miss it :( i hear women make better snipers and are much better with accuracy (although in warfare/hand to hand men are better) . unfortunately i got a B.S assault charge i have to get cleared up if i want to own one again :(

Regarding activism specific to women, did you know about the Second Amendment Sisters? See:
http://www.2asisters.org/
Considering the current climate, I'd recommend applying for that CCW license sooner than later.

We can do the first ever SW range day as you and dancypants and I all live fairly close to each other. You guys brings your BFs and or GFs, and maybe another member or two here is in our area and is interested, and we have a fun range day. Ammo is tough to come by these days, so that's the main limitation. There's a great range fairly close to us all (PM for details) and that would be the place to go.

Re: SW Ladies that like to shoot?
Haunt Wal*Mart. If you can find ammo it is at pre-panic prices. They are limiting purchases to 3 boxes.

Re: SW Ladies that like to shoot?
I'm a fan. Growing up we had family trips to the shooting range!
Don't own a gun, but would like to in the future. Right now I don't mind though because it means I can try out different things so when I do make the investment I'm sure. Haven't gone to the shooting range as much recently. My ex was in the military and it was such a turn on watching him shoot lol and he would help me work on my skills too. I think guns are sexy.

Walmart, Dick's various local places, have been pretty cleaned our around here, and if you do see any, forget about pre panic prices. :-\

Re: SW Ladies that like to shoot?
The hoarding and price gouging may die down for a while. Better start stocking up.

I had an Israeli girlfriend that served in Israel's army. She was proficient with the Uzi.

Re: SW Ladies that like to shoot?
My Dad gave me my first gun, a 38, when I turned 16. That of course was after growing up around them, and being taught respect and how to use one. I need to get to my local shooting range again soon. Thanks for the reminder. I love target shooting!
Being a single woman, having a gun brings me a lot of comfort. Luckily I live in a state that has more gun freedom for owners, but i used to live in a very strict state. It was a massive city with usual big city crime, so I still kept it in my home.

Get to the range girl! Regular practice is important and a semi regular equipment check always a good idea.

Re: SW Ladies that like to shoot?
my most recent pistol ... Baby Eagle semi-compact polymer frame in .40 S&W ... has stopping power nearly equal to a .45 but much smaller / lighter to handle. This is by far the best personal defense pistol I have ever owned ( mostly because the .40 S&W is so much better than 9mm / .38, while this pistol is similar size and weight to 9mm handguns )
my most recent rifle ... CX4 Storm polymer stock also in .40 S&W ... with 4x scope ( for 'short' range deer hunting i.e. 100 yards ) + optional laser sight ( that really helps keep the restless natives in line without firing a shot ).
my most recent shotgun ... Remington 11-87 compact ( = short barrel ) Supermag polymer stock in 20 gage + Red-Dot scope ( with 3" mag shells it hits like a 12 gage but 1/3rd smaller and lighter ). Definitely limited to 50 yards or so ( turkey hunting ), but it's unmatched for shock and awe ( i.e. I can get 5 shots off before the first shell casing hits the ground ! ) and it's loud as hell.
next on my wish list is a new rifle for longer range use ... probably one of these ...
http://www.longrangehunting.com/imag...review-002.jpg
... a DPMS Panther LR-260L with carbon fiber stock and Mikulek compensator. The Remington 260 ammo has near zero recoil plus a very high velocity and very flat ( = wind cheating ) trajectory which provides accurate range to 250-300 yards despite the short barrel / light weight of this 'hunting version' gun. See
I would have already bought one during my last trip back to the USA, but the latest New York gun control laws have now banned this and similar guns as 'assault weapons'. Technically speaking, that's totally wrong ... my CX4 actually is a short range 'assault weapon', while the Panther is a medium range target gun. But the law says that if the gun has certain features ( in this case a pistol grip ) it's banned. IMHO the one most insidious effect of these new gun control laws is to prevent women of small stature from being able to buy smaller, lighter weight guns that are easier for them to handle and shoot !!!
Of course I don't need to worry about that stuff down here way south of the border. Pros and Cons of guns down here way south of the border. Pro - near zero gun control laws. Con - restless natives make gun ownership ( and skills ) pretty much mandatory. But one of the things that I used to look forward to was going deer / turkey hunting with my brother on my return trips to the USA. To do that now in NY I'm forced to lug around some heavy-ass wooden stock gun with a long barrel ... which already caused me to miss a nice 8 point buck during my last trip up because I couldn't keep the heavy-ass gun shouldered all day long and the deer spooked when I started to bring the gun up to my shoulder.
However ( thanks in part to the new gun control laws ), I've been changing my focus a bit lately, and am now training with one of these ...
http://i.ebayimg.com/t/NEW-PINK-LADI...wB!~~60_57.JPG
naturally all the guys down here give me a ration of s#!t about the pink color !!! But I generally out-shoot them ... at least out to 30 yards or so where my 45 pound pull starts to lose accuracy.

Re: SW Ladies that like to shoot?
I have used a gun before but don't own one now. I would like a small one though, mostly for protection but also to go to shooting ranges.

Things may be getting better for you in Illinois.

Chicago, like NYC, and other "progressive" places, makes sure only the criminals have easy access to guns. Have you looked into the laws in your specific area regarding a CCW permit? Here's a site with helpful info:
http://www.handgunlaw.us/
Good luck.

Why dat? They pass some new pro gun legislation recently?
-
Re: SW Ladies that like to shoot?
I think a federal court has ordered Illinois to pass a concealed handgun law, and if it does not, he is going to give them one.

Re: SW Ladies that like to shoot?
I don't like Legislation from the bench, even if it is 2A Rights I support. Law should come from the People through their representatives.
