New to camming, question about privacy of your job against your name
Hi Everyone!
First off, what a great support system this seems to be.
So here's whatsup. I'm a third year college student, but the $h!t has hit the fan recently. I've always been curious about camming but was always kind of hesitant to start. Recently my parents are going through a divorce, I will lose my monthly income from them, and i have been hit with a 20k$ insurance claim from a RIDICULOUSLY small fender bender that happened back in law school, which my insurance refuses to cover. So to be honest thats been putting some pressure on me to look further into camming.
I was considering chaturbate, just so I can get my feet wet first. Some of the shows seem pretty easy-going, even though it probably pays less. But i'm ok with that, I just want to test the waters right now. I have 2 main concerns. If making as little as... lets say... <800$/month, do I need to provide tax/SSN information? What would that even look like on a W2? lol...I don't mind the "internet exposure", but I would be hesitant to have a paper trail/ have something that would show on background checks tied to my full name. I am applying for a specific visa for a program through my school and they background check pretty hard to make sure you're a "good citizen", and it specifies that sex-workers are not good citizens (b/s i know), and that the gov would be doing background checks.. So idk if theyre just referring to being convicted of solicitation, or if having a side camming job counts/can even come up on a check.
This program is really important to me, so as much as I want to start camming, this is my major concern. Can anyone talk about their experience with this, or if they have knowledge on the subject? thanks!
Otherwise, my not-so-desired other option would be seekingarrangement
**edit: i live in California if it makes a difference. And also i have no intentions of evading taxes, only about privacy. so if theres a way to report earnings as tips from like.... waitressing/bartending or something... that'd work!
Re: New to camming, question about privacy of your job against your name
If the government is doing background checks in the manner in which you say, you WILL be found out. Cam sites do not issue W2s, those are for employees. You will be considered an independent contractor and have to provide your name a social security number via a W9 before you are allowed to broadcast. At the end of the year the cam site will report to the IRS whatever they have paid you and it will be quite easy to cross check your ssn and subsequently look up what company has been paying you. Of course you have to provide your ssn, it doesn't matter how much you make even if it is less than $800 a year. (Not to be confused with only having to file if you make less than $400 in a fiscal year.) There's no way around it. If it's going to negatively impact your future it's probably not the job for you.
Re: New to camming, question about privacy of your job against your name
Gee thanks, I had no idea. I have a job through my school in which I make less than 8k$/year, and am exempt from taxes because of the low amount. I figured if I just made a low enough figure, I'd be exempt as well. But thanks for saving me the future headache!

No problem. Being exempt from paying taxes is not the same thing as not having to file taxes. If you *did* go into camming and earned a very low amount and had enough deductions it might still be possible that you wouldn't owe any money, but you would still have to file and that would come up on a government background search.
