SM: How to take a great Bio picture?
Yes, still a newbie here.
I was browsing a lot through the top-row models' bio pictures and noticed that almost all of them look like they were taken by a professional, quality-wise (and they most likely were indeed).
Now, for those of us who only have a basic digital camera and no professional lighting - what's the best way to do it?
In the beginning I planned on using one of the pictures from the ongoing collection of my SO and me, but then I realized that even though we've got hundreds of them by now, most of them are either fully nude or in bad quality.
What picture did you use for your SM bio picture? Did you take one specifically for it? So, what would you recommend?
Thanks! :)
Re: SM: How to take a great Bio picture?
I took a still shot from a video since I suck at taking my own picture. ;)
Re: SM: How to take a great Bio picture?
I have a basic point-and-shoot camera. i just had someone take a picture of me..pretty simple stuff. :D I didn't put too much effort into it. You don't need an expensive DSLR and a film crew to have decent stills. www.jaanarutu.cammodels.com - see? That was taken with a $300 point-and-shoot, a year and a half after it was purchased.
Re: SM: How to take a great Bio picture?
For me, it's all about lighting, capturing all of your best assets and features, make up, confidence, and a photo editing program. You can use regular lighting if you know exactly where to put it. Having an HD cam that takes snap shots or even a digital camera that has a timer function on it can work wonders as well. Once you get all of your lighting together and you're all put together, just pose and take as many photos as you want. I generally decide on a certain look I want to portray and I snap myself over and over until I get the desired shot. Anyone can look and pose like a porn star with the right equipment and it doesn't have to be professional per say.

I love that picture!
It's just, when I see the "top" models pictures it always makes me feel inadequate, even though it's ironic because I feel like a professional-styled picture with a lot of make-up and lingerie would not be... me? I don't know how to explain it. I feel like I need to find the balance between sexy and authentic (and self-shot with timer which is tricky). Does that make any sense?
Oh god haha. The way things seem right now, I think my first shift on SM is going to be when I'm 60. :'(
But you guys are awesome.

Here's the thing, though...
You want your bio picture to look like..well, you. if your bio picture is all professionally done, with pro make-up and hair and editing, guys are going to be let down when they get to your room. You want your main picture to look like..well, what you look like.

Could you link to/add an image of what you consider to be good lighting (non-professional)?

Go to YouTube and search "picture lighting"...
I would link something but there are many different lighting set ups and they all produce slightly different results
Re: SM: How to take a great Bio picture?
I don't actually think most of the top row models pictures were taken by a professional, because you really don't need to be a professional to be capable of taking images like theirs. With enough experience, you're pretty much a photographer. The only difference between you and a professional is that you could then use your skills to be a "professional" if you wanted to because can take good pictures. Most models bio pics are just of high quality and well lit and I think most people can produce similar results if they have the right shit. ~
- Invest in a high-quality Digital SLR.
- Use good quality lighting to soften your features.
- Use good image editing software in post-production (like Photoshop)
- Know your best angles and expressions.
I'd say take around 30 - 50ish pictures for one bio pic shoot.
You'll probably find 1 - 10 out of those which you can tailor to perfection in post-production.
In photo editing software, edit out flaws like under-eye circles, zits, etc. Amp up the brightness and contrast a little. Perhaps up or down the saturation. Perhaps alter the white balance to your preference.
Choose your favorite pic.
I usually think bio pics should be punchy and high contrast to stand out from the rest; they should show off your best quality or niche features, or be a stunning close-up of your face. Just mah take! :)
Re: SM: How to take a great Bio picture?
Just Photoshop your pics to look better if you don't want to worry over getting higher quality cams or having pro photos taken. Hire someone on Fiverr to do it for you if you don't know how or don't want to.
Re: SM: How to take a great Bio picture?
Thanks! I don't feel comfortable photoshopping the picture though, it makes me feel weird just thinking about it (absolutely not judging anybody who does so; it just feels... off, for me personally).

Well I could pretty much guarantee you that the photos "of professional quality" that you desire are likely all photoshopped to some degree.
"Photoshopping" can mean anything from simply touching up the contrast a little, to entirely reconstructing somebodies natural appearance...
Re: SM: How to take a great Bio picture?
Jaana can I just say how much I love that one of your tags says 'bacon'. Too funny/adorable. :)
Re: SM: How to take a great Bio picture?
@Incantatious - that's actually quite spot-on, didn't think about it this way.

Thanks. :) I think because of the media we're surrounded by these days, I think it's pretty standard to assume that "photoshopped" basically translates to: you've been taken down 3 dress sizes, had your nose shrunk, tits boosted up 2 cup sizes, waist narrowed, and you're basically a completely different person! XD
Re: SM: How to take a great Bio picture?
Funny I was just thinking about this and read a very helpful post on the Streamate tumblr:

I have a background in fashion photography (though I don't really apply it to my own pix, LOL) and was really impressed by the tips about cropping.

Thanks! That's what I was looking for. Haha, that quote made me laugh: "I’m sure this photo shows how hot you are, how happy you look to be on the beach" - it's, like - "how happy you look to be on the beach, but NO ONE CARES".
Re: SM: How to take a great Bio picture?
I loved the bacon tag as well. But I have to say that you can edit a photo where it looks great, professional, but natural. I personally am not photogenic so it takes me forever to get that perfect shot, but I know for a fact that I tend to look better live and in person than I do in my photos. I take into consideration that I look just as good on cam as I do in a photo. Guys aren't getting tricked when they come into my room just because I edit my photos. I really only just add a glowing effect and cropping. I don't have a "jaw dropping" tag for nothing lol.

I don't think thats necessarily true. If you have a glamourous bio pic, you will attract a ton of sissies. You will also attract a ton of findom guys for some reason. And you will basically attract a ton of fetishists.
Re: SM: How to take a great Bio picture?
I don't even show my face in any photos. I just show my boobs, no nips and the side of my body so they know right away what my body looks like with still leaving to the imagination. I get many comments that they love it and compliment my hair. So pro pics or face is not a requirement.
