That's been my experience too.
But beyond that, the outfits that look gorgeous to me... the outfits that get the best reviews in the dressing room... usually don't do as well on the floor.
Now I wear/buy things that look simple or even "tacky" (in my opinion) and do great. I laugh sometimes when I see myself in the mirror.
I joke that I wear hideous outfits because it gives guys incentive to get me out of those atrocious clothes. Hahaha. :)
If the expensive dancer clothes aren't perfectly flattering (which they should be for the price), then they won't make you more money. If you find a bright bikini set that fits perfectly and is expensive, it'll make you more money. If you find a cheap bikini set that fits okay and reminds some whale of his ex-girlfriend in a positive way, you'll make more money.
In other words, who the fuck knows. :)
Heck I works with a dancer who used to make bankwith groups of young guys- she would wear a stripper tube or halter dress with running shoes or barefoot- and an oversized cotton sweatshirt and a glow in the dark rosary.
Also, I've often noticed that top earners tend to wear the same outfit when they work, often nothing too fancy, but always flattering.
I think its more about how you feel wearing certain outfits. If you feel sexy and confident you will make more money.
Personally I dont think I have ever bought a "dancer outfit".I think they are really over priced, most of my outfits cost under $20.
I don't think so, I mostly wear a lingerie set I got at Target and I do well in it.
No definitely not and I wish I knew this when I was younger. One of my best money making outfits is a $10 dollar striped shirt I got from H&M that I wear as a mini dress, the guys love it! Youre better off investing in quality make up, your hair, and teeth whiteners. It seems men really go crazy for super white teeth, or at least the ones I meet lol.
^That's so true...unfortunately :(.
I usually buy things online and cheaply these days, after all the expensive out fits seem to last as long as the cheaper ones IME. If something is expensive, but I could see myself doing well in it (if I've banked in something similar or it's something that would extenuate my assets/be flattering etc), I usually snap it up.
I have a couple dresses that were around $100. They have made me money because they help me stand out, but it's not a consistent thing and I've made money in super cheap outfits as well. I really like them, and they've lasted me a while, so to me it's worth it. But it's a personal thing, and I definitely wouldn't say that it's necessary.
Depends on the club and the customer demographic. In the case of the OP, no it's not worth it. Bikini clubs are meant to be relaxed, friendly and laid back. Overdressing will not gain rapport with the customer. In an upscale suit n tie club, fancy sparkly gowns will catch the customers eye before a plain bikini will.
^^^^ I agree completely.
Working gown clubs in London, I had some seriously pricey outfits, and always did better in them then I did when I was wearing cheaper stuff.
Now that I am working in more of a local dive bar, wearing an expensive gown outfit would just be...weird.
I've seen girls make money wearing awful outfits - one girl I used to work with would wear a cheapy blue bikini and mukluks (like Uggs, for those that don't know) and just rake it in because of her personality.
In my xp nope not at all.I'm more concerned with how easily it comes on and off, as well as how durable it is. I watch girls blow tons of money on outfits with no real increase in sales. Great topic!
I wonder if people who have expensive outfits tend to rely too heavily on their "look" instead of projecting their personalities. Similar to the phenomenon of girls who get breast augmentations and then stop hustling, so they make less money (because they're expecting to make beaucoup bucks with zero effort).
not for me, because im VERY rough on my clothes..after a week they have tears, self tanner stains, rips, etc..i've bought a few real expensive outfits that just didn't flatter and didn't earn much money ( gowns for instance). i buy them off ebay or off other girls now..my mom also sews so ill request some simple tight tube tops once in awhile haha. i go for the plain outfits and then bright jewelry/stockings/leg warmers/hair accessories.
depends on the club. during my first couple years I would work at dives in la and would make the most in a plain white forever 21 cami and vs panties (the plain cotton ones) and then I would travel to sf whenever I could and I would make the most in my $700 agent provocateur sets. those sets were absolutely worth the investment (I only had a few) because whenever I was at that club the hosts would hook me up left and right because we had a good relationship and I looked the best. at a club where looks trumps hustle, yes, investing in your look is very important.
now that im in vegas full time im somewhere in between. I cant find another brand other than vs that looks nice and has the same amount of padding and lift so that what I wear. having a more extreme bust-waist-ass measurements helps me and the hosts definitely hook me up more when I wear vs than when I wear my daintier lingerie....I just stand out more.
^Anything you'd recommend from agent provocateur that works for stripping? They have very unique stuff - I can see how that'd make money in a club. Did the outfits hold up well in a stripping environment?
anything that has a molded cup. the matching waspies are really what make it stand out. my favorite outfit was this: http://daniellajohnsson.com/2010/05/...melody-waspie/ very sturdy and I wore it every day for 6-8 months in a row and off and on for the last couple of years. waspies are imo way cuter than normal corsets and they are really easy to take off and put on.
Not at all. I once bought a fancy expensive outfit that I couldn't wait to wear. I had gloves, a necklace, a collar, feather and a bra and g string all studded. I wear it and that night I think I broke even. The next night I wore a bar and panty set I bought at Target for about $20 and made $400+. I asked someone and they said while the outfit was really cute it didn't really work in that club because it looked more like a Vegas showgirl outfit.
My work friend seems to have a new gown every week, and I haven't observed any noticeable change in the amount of dances she seems to sell; not that I'm counting, but if she was suddenly in VIP all night or constantly dancing, I'd notice. So judging on that, no, I don't think multiple expensive outfits are necessary.
However, outfits that make you feel hot do impact your money. I have one black dress that has been deemed "appropriate" by the house moms, and I am so SICK of it; I've noticed it impacting my hustle a bit, between not feeling like it's that attractive (it really doesn't highlight anything on me...) and all the other girls suddenly wearing black as well. The damn house mom has ixnayed every other dress I've brought in for some reason, so I'm almost trapped in my outfit >:[
Anyways... I have a couple lingerie sets that were not very pricey, maybe $30 a piece, and they are a huge hit. One is from Jezebel and is hot pink with black corset lacing; I'll do that with fishnets and the guys seem to go nuts because it stands out amid the sea of girls still in gowns.. Totally worth the 2 songs I spend running back to change. I don't think anybody can tell what you spent on your outfit. Quite frankly, my own boyfriend cannot tell the difference between a VS bra and a Target bra, so I doubt anybody in the club can either.
I worked at a topless club, so yah when I felt it was worth it I would but when it was dead then no. the waspies kinda cover the belly but not as much as dresses and corsets, you can tell if someone is trying to hide something, and I think they accentuated my hourglass figure. but again, this is an example of it being worth the investment at one club but not the other becauase I rarely wear my ap outfits anymore. I just make more here with an overly padded bra and tiny bottoms and nothing covering my stomach.
plus the clubs here are darker than the clubs in sf so I feel like you need to wear all neon and glitter just so guys can see you from across the room!
I think that expensive outfits are worth it because I FEEL expensive while wearing them.
Aka: give me more money because I'm a top of the line stripper.
Yeah. I used to go to stores that specialize in stripperwear and buy "fancy" stripper outfits. Now 90% of the time I'm just in a sexy bra and panties/thong. That's the look that makes me the most money.
Once I start traveling to new clubs this summer, I'm going to run into some gown clubs. I'll stock up on three or so gowns that I'm assuming will be on the expensive side, because most gowns are. But as of right now I just dance in lingerie.
