Slots are about the worst thing that you can play, but you may be limited if you do not know anything else. Vegas was not built on card games, but rather on slot machines. In fact, many casinos would probably do away with their card rooms altogether if they didn't need them to bring in a certain % of people who also play slots and other more lucrative games.
My recommendation would simply be that you stick to the cheapest slot machines that you can find.
I don't go out of my way to gamble, but if I happen to be at a casino I go for black jack. There's a lot of rules about when you should and shouldn't hit based on the odds of what card will come next but I'm not that serious. I just hit until I'm more than half way to 21. And I find a $5 or $10 table. Spend $50 and if I make something great, if not I've been there long enough to make the free drinks worth it.
The only thing I've played are slot machines. I once played one dollar, and got three.
I like to gamble, I started out in the Indian casinos here in SoCal and Vegas whenever I'm out there. I usually stick to craps, blackjack, and roulette. Table games used to intimidate me, but I found that being a pretty girl and just asking dudes at the table how to play helped a ton. You can of course ask the dealer as well, but some dealers can be complete assholes about it. Be ready to lose your money, enjoy the free drinks, tip ur dealer if ur winning, and don't get too greedy!! I give myself a cash spending limit (usually $500) and leave my debit card in the room to resist the temptation to pull more out of the ATM.
With that said I just lost my ass gambling in Vegas 2 weeks ago (nearly 1k) because I'm a SUCKER. Thank god I'm a stripper and made it back in 2 days haha!!!!
I love going to the casino! I only play slots and blackjack. I mostly play for fun - I'm pretty good with blackjack strategy, but I already know I'm gonna lose at the slots. I only take $100-150 so it's not a big deal. I just like the lights, the sounds, and having fun with friends.
It's also cool when some old dude lets you gamble with his money. lol
Read Scarne's Complete Guide to Gambling. The library may have it.
Or the new edition. http://www.amazon.com/dp/0671630636
Yes! Haha. Last year in Vegas this guy that looked like Criss Angel was letting me pick all his roulette spaces. It was a blasty blast.
I play the penny slots just because it's entertaining, and blackjack. I actually learned "basic strategy" and then how to count cards, so if I play with enough money I can generally do decently.
I would like to learn to play poker though. Various people have tried to teach me, and I forget it by the next time, plus there's like 80 gazillion different games in the casinos and it's confusing.
I recently learned how to play black jack. I don't exactly play by the written rules... but I do well. The folks that taught me how to play tell me they are afraid to go to a real casino with me. They worry that if I pull my "instinctive" shenanigans (splitting tens, doubling where I supposedly should not, etc.), other players will be pissed and it could lead to problems.
A little while ago, while visiting some friends down the shore I won the "black jack tournament"... it was in a house, not a casino, and it wasn't for real money... just a friendly game.
Everyone haaaaaaaated me. So yeah, I can only imagine how pissed people playing with real money could get. Eeek!
I'd like to learn how to play poker. But it's really difficult for me. It's sorta like chess: chess looks awesome but I stick to checkers. When it comes to poker, I go with black jack.
I pretty much stopped gambling. Made some good money off poker back in the day... both in Vegas and online when it was legal but just couldn't be bothered with it anymore. EVERY machine you play in vegas and most tables are just sucker bets. Unless you are able to count cards in blackjack and not be obvious about it, or have the patience to sit at a poker table long enough to double or triple your money and then get up and leave at that point or understand ALL the odds when it comes to craps... you are just better off hanging at a penny slot and sucking up free drinks.
I only go to the casino when there is a hot dancer involved...I provide seed money and they let me be seen in the same building with them so it's a win win ;D
Anywhoo....
I'm not great at it but I play blackjack kinda on instinct as well. I have gotten a few hard core players pissed at me for not following conventional wisdom. One idiot was whining so much a few years ago that the dealer had him ejected. It was in CT. In AC they seem to be a bit more tolerant of rebels...
I'm going to Vegas next week and I can't wait to play the penny slots wooooo !
Every time I leave my home it's a gamble.
don't play slots!! they are a total rip off! i hear you have the best chances playing craps, even better than black jack
Blackjack is my game
By far the thing I do the most in casinos in No Limit Hold'em from about 2/5 to 10/20 level. In terms of games for fun where I expect to lose... craps is a blast. You and all the other players are sorta on the same team so it is a great "instant friends" social experience and very high energy. In terms of table games I gotta admit I really do like the pacing of Let It Ride. Terrible odds so I resist the temptation mostly, I never play the $1 since that's just way too much of a rip off but it is a fun way to just relax at the casino. If they have something like single or double deck blackjack that's fun and worthwhile too.
I enjoy playing poker and roulette is fun as well:). I HATE spending money with nothing to show for it lol, so I don't play slots (or the pokies as we call them here ;) ). I don't gamble that often, it can be a novelty and fun to go to the casino once in a while though.
I haaaate those people.
If they were really that into the game, they'd know the odds of it and understand statistics, and statistics don't care if someone plays the "wrong play". Those are like the idiots that won't sit in 3rd chair because "someone in 1st or 2nd will mess up my hand".
I have a degree in math, so .... no I'm not into gambling.
They get mad because what the other person does very often affects the outcome for their bet. When Player A doesn't follow basic strategy and does "something wrong" it will negatively impact Player B about 50% of the time, positively impact them about 25% of the time and have a neutral impact about 25% of the time. It's a communal game and everyone's play impact the results on each of the individual players.
For those reasons if I do play that game, I play very late or very early when there are a minimum number of strangers coming in and out of the table or I use a cyclical betting system that removes the affects of variables in other people's play.
poker player here ! I'm not actually all that good at it, but I do have a way of distracting other players at the table ...
IMHO, 3-Card poker is the best game for the player in terms of odds. You can only lose even money and can potentially win with odds as high as 40-1 if you get the right hands. Also, with the Par or Better bet, you are guaranteed to get paid, even if the dealer doesn't qualify or beats you.
