Re: Your ultimate dream job... What is it?
I would love to be a teacher at a community college while doing sexuality based therapy. My college education was the best thing that ever happened to me, way better than university, and I would love to be teaching others. This dream can become a reality, I might jist have to relocate a bit. Im cool with that, but I gotta finish school first
Re: Your ultimate dream job... What is it?
I want to have my own med spa.
Re: Your ultimate dream job... What is it?
Oooh tough question... I better get a move on deciding, I only have a year of undergrad left
I am getting my BS in Wildlife Ecology. I've already done a summer working for the state agency though, and I really disliked how things were run (the stereotype of lazy government employees and misappropriated/wasted funds is true and it really pissed me off)... kinda sucked to get 3/4 of the way through the degree and realize the main source of jobs is a giant joke.
Soooo the most likely option is to go on to grad school, likely for marine biology.
Also right now I am taking some electives in horse stuff... there is a whole "equine science" certificate at a local community college. I have been toying with the idea of that. I'd love to run a boarding facility and/or compete professionally in rodeo, teach lessons, all that jazz.
Re: Your ultimate dream job... What is it?
Cirque du Soleil performer with a side degree (I'd love to be a Dr.) in something like chemistry or marine biology which is actually what I wanted to do before I started performing.

Secondarily, I love writing and would love to dabble into it. Journalism was my first major but I switched because I can always do freelance journalism on the side and business law is guaranteed to be secure and lucrative if I play my cards right through school. Less probable, I'd like to publish novels and write screenplays. Ever since I was younger I had the dream/fantasy of accepting an Oscar for best screenplay. Hey, it could happen. ;)
I wish you well with the UCC!

Can you change to wildlife biology?
Have you looked into the ecology remediation business?

Professional puppy cuddler. I don't think that is an actual job, though. I have a dog and I've gone through dog training with her. I don't actually want to train the dogs/ puppies. I just want to play and snuggle with them. :-)

Awww, I'd LOVE that also! Also, bunnies, as I've had 'em for pets

Not an insane goal, really. Just finding the time to sit and write the ideas I have in my head is difficult. I found a quote by Stephen King that said something like, "If you don't have time to read, then you have no business writing." Makes sense to me, really. So I gotta get back to reading like I did when I was in high school before I start writing. One day, for sure.
If not, something close, a librarian. Something about literature just turns my gears. ^__^
I do write, and have been published in online magazines/ content production for websites ect.
I've got zero formal writing training. All you have to do is sit down and write something you like. Don't worry about if anyone else is going to read it or not. Just write something you like.
I'm working on a novel now. It isn't my first, but it is the first that I think has some potential for publication. The key is to just sit down and write. Reading is also important, especially in your genre. I download books onto a kindle app and read while on the bus or waiting in line or waiting for my ride after work or whatever. It is on my smart phone, I always have it with me, so finding time to read is easy. The last kindle book I purchased was .99 cents. Also, you might consider audio books if you spend a lot of time in the car.

I think you're describing an Art Director or Creative Director. While the pay is good (six-figures +), the time required to attain those positions can be a major obstacle. Usually, you start out as a copywriter or designer or associate producer something something... build your portfolio... work your way up through the ranks for a decade or two... and then fight like you're in "The Hunger Games" to get the gig of your dreams.
Competition is fierce and folks are crazy talented. Pressure is high. It's stressful to be between tough spots all the time: you have to satisfy the client and work within the creative/financial/time constraints lobbed at you all the while staying (or attempting to stay) true to your creative vision. Shit's a lot more restrictive than you imagine. At the same time, you're fighting against the other agencies trying to poach your clients with bigger, better, cheaper work. When SC Johnson left a NYC agency, they took roughly $800 million dollars off the table and gave it to a competitor. So yeah, there is big money involved. However, the people getting paid don't get that. They are paid what they are paid... in the upper echelons that can be $300K+ annually. Not bad... but it's a heck of a trek to get there.
If you love the work, go for it. I'm a big fan of advertising. If you're in school, L'Oreal and Avon often offer internships in marketing.

Well, let me rephrase ... how about my dream job is ... lying on a tropical beach, sucking down margaritas, while 'managing' my investments ? I am living that dream !!!
And regarding the dreaded four oh ... most of the guys I meet assure me that I'll never be considered as 'over the hill' as long as my age doesn't exceed my bust measurement. So I'm 'safe' for a few more years at least !!!
Re: Your ultimate dream job... What is it?
Same job...stripclub DJ, only no drunks or neurotics hassling me, no music rules, and always a lot of customers spending money even in slow season or family holidays.

yeah, sounds stressful! that's kinda what i figured, its hard to do art for money and its soo competitive when you finally catch a break!
Re: Your ultimate dream job... What is it?
My original dream job was to be a successful mainstream actor. A supporting regular on a TV series and supporting roles in various films. Working about 7 or 8 months out of the year and traveling places and playing music and playing golf and whatever I wanted to during the months off. Wanted to be rich from doing that and famous enough to be recognizable but not so much that I lose any and all privacy. That never happened LOL so I gave up the dream in the late 90s after a string of smaller speaking roles on TV but not making enough to live on. Now I've been working in porn for 13 years and am doing quite well... no complaints.

that reminds me, i always wanted to be a mortitian as a kid!! or a funeral director, or the person who puts makeup on the corpses ( i actually beautified up dead people while i worked in a nursing home)! wonder if there's still money/a future in that work.
Re: Your ultimate dream job... What is it?
What's funny is I'm doing mine but it's a lot more stressful then I thought. Building & watching construction, slow for someone new to a market & having growing pains.

I mean, I hate to be morbid, but there are about to be a lot of old and then, of course, dead people soon...

Around here the degrees are all interchangeable; the other options were Biology (emphasis on Animal Behavior) or Conservation Biology. It really doesn't matter what you get; I am just in the hands-on program, so I'll pwn any interview questions specifically pertaining to "How would you trap this animal?" But they all lead to the state agency, or Fish and Wildlife. The only other options would be to switch to the plant/hydrology management set of electives (which I haaaaate).
What is ecology remediation???
Anywho, I like the field, the problem was the agency. I think I may try to spend my last year of school networking in the "game" branch, where there is more actual management to be done, year-round, since you are working with the hunters. I worked in "non game" before, with a bunch of fish species that are pointless to manage (I'm talking minnow type fish)... they cram all their "work" into summer and then dick around the other 8 months. They are lazy and unorganized... even my boyfriend would have to work with them at his job, and he'd complain how they forgot half their supplies and shit. Also the pay is VERY low ($30k/year) for hiking around all day in the Arizona heat. I may network with Fish and Wildlife as well, as they pay close to $50k.

This reminds me of my other dream side job: Puppy Bowl Ref!
