Re: Spearmint rhino lv, dancers will be employees by july 1, 2013
If all clubs were about to implement this I'm sure I would have heard about it by now, so I refuse to buy that. Although there ARE some clubs where strippers are considered employees --- there have been several court cases where the strip club lost the independent contractors vs employee battle and the strippers were ruled employees. There are some clubs (not many) that have their dancers on a payroll like back in the day.

Re: Spearmint rhino lv, dancers will be employees by july 1, 2013
Yeah, in cases where strippers have become employees it's almost always because the club lost the lawsuit. In cases I've heard of, some of the clubs had to reimburse the dancers for their house fees and (if I'm not mistaken) possibly reimburse them for the wage they would have been paid had they been "employees" since they started working at the club. I haven't heard of SR LV being in any lawsuit, but if they were, that could've been the result.

there are so many steps the clubs can take before being forced to call us employees. sr lv doesn't treat their girls like employees in the same way other sr and clubs do (forced specific shifts, forced to stay on the floor, forced to go onstage) so even if this was a trend in the us it would hit sr last.

Re: Spearmint rhino lv, dancers will be employees by july 1, 2013
CA courts ruled that SR dancers are employees not independent contractors, so they are transitioning the CA clubs to employee optional. I think the other possibility is "business co-owner" (?!) but I don't really know. If the LV SR was named in the lawsuit then they will be affected. And the change is happening this week for sure.

many djv clubs have been employee optional for a long time and nobody ever chooses it and it doesn't affect the dancers.

Every club I have danced at in Texas or are part of the Rick's chain already require 1099's

I'm a LV Rhino dancer and it's true. Instead of 1099's, it's W2s and we have to get SCOPE and TAM cards. The Metro Police station was full of Rhino dancers, it was almost comical. We all have a limit of 4 8 hours shifts and will be paid 7.25 a hour. Locker fees instead of house fees.

^ Are they doing the 50% commission and shift minimums? Damn. $7.25 is insane.

What is SCOPE and TAM? For some reason I'm under the mindset that SCOPE is a background check and TAM is an alcohol-awareness type thing but I could be completely wrong.

No way am I dancing naked in stilettos and putting up with customer bullshit for $7.25 an hour! I'd rather light myself on fire.

TAM of Nevada is Techniques of Alcohol Management. I got mine a few days ago, but not for titty bar reasons. Any person that works in an industry that sells/serves alcohol( bartenders, servers, etc) needs to have one. I've heard of SCOPE, but not sure what that is.

Speculation is that the federal gov't as well as several states ( the ones with high state income taxes, surprise surprise ) are pressuring nationwide corporate club chains to transition to 'employee' dancers ... so that they can collect more total taxes as well as more money for unemployment and disability insurance funds.

Note that the total paid hours per week may actually be limited to 28 ... so that the clubowner can avoid having to pay the $3000 per 'employee' annual ObamaCare fine for not providing full time 'employee' dancers with health care coverage.

Re: Spearmint rhino lv, dancers will be employees by july 1, 2013
We can still keep our tips, it's just we're our 'house fees' refunded. The VIP's room will have room charges, i.e $200 for half hour plus $50 room charge and 2 VIP drinks. For funny money, they have to deduct 25% for taxes but they are putting in more ATMs. I have to turn in my paperwork today, I'll let you all know how things turn out.
SCOPE is a background check, you have to go to Metro for that. TAM is an alcohol awareness card that all drink servers must have (which is strange since we are not drink servers). You can take TAM online and then do the proctored exam on site.

Re: Spearmint rhino lv, dancers will be employees by july 1, 2013
Luvbuniz, do you know yet whether or not the SCOPE background check is posing any problems for dancers with previous club busts etc. not being 'rehired' as employees ?
-
Re: Spearmint rhino lv, dancers will be employees by july 1, 2013
I don't think Rhino allows girls that were busted back again.

Re: Spearmint rhino lv, dancers will be employees by july 1, 2013
what and how much are locker rooms fees? Are you allowed to work only once a week? Will the morning shift still start at 3 am?
