Make the money, don't let the money make you
Looks like my 'camming vacation' has been cut short. I haven't even begun to start to recover from my burnout but seeing I have to come up with first and last rent and repair the car after rear-ending someone. Camming has now become non-negotiable for me.
I know this is a crappy time to even get on cam right now. That is okay.
Change the game. Don't let the game change you.

Re: Make the money, don't let the money make you
*I'm thinking Mackelmore looks like Channing Tatum from the nose down...and a bit of Mark Wahlberg "drools"* For sure JAC, hopefully you've recovered from your burn out. I guess you could look at the summer as a blessing. If you get a head start now, at least by November you'll be set up for the Christmas hustle and should have more followers.

Re: Make the money, don't let the money make you
Wow I like that song!
I'm in the same boat! I have to come up with a ton of money for various things my kid will be needing and money for dental work I must do soon. I really really expected to be done by now and have a bit of savings even but this summer has hit me hard.
I've made a bit of progress this week by remembering to turn on all my sites when I splitcam. I need to be more efficient and just run all the sites I can because while I get good feedback from my customers when I get a private and they seem to love me, I just dont have the energy to pull enough of them in from just one site.
Working through burnout and seeing some money add up is so satisfying. Let's do change the game and make this work for us!

Re: Make the money, don't let the money make you
I firmly believe in "change the things you look at, and the things you look at change".
I was feeling burnt out - so what am I doing now? Focusing on gratitude (SO important!!), focusing on just getting on as much as possible, (right now I am on cam, just not paying much attention, lol), on working different sites, on changing how I approach it....on top of that - I am trying to focus less on MONEY and more on truly appreciating my customers - bui8lding my relationships, my regulars, my presence, my placement. I am trying to focus on the awesome stuff - shut out the bad voices. Instead of thinking "oh, I'm not giving it 100%, better log off, that means I suck, I can never do enough hours, blah blah blah" I am thinking "THIS IS AWESOME - I am just dicking around on the internet and occasionally doing a show. WOOOO!"
All about the perspective - and luckily, we can choose our own!
Side note - thank you SO MUCH for this song! I am going to have this on repeat ALL DAY. Especially "If I'd done it for the money, I'da been a fucking lawyer". I went to law school., I dropped out to have a better life. I need to keep reminding myself of all of this. I need to remind myself that I DO have time, I DO have money, I DO have it easy, this IS an awesome job.

Re: Make the money, don't let the money make you
I am not going to lie. Today was a hard day for me. I forgot how much focus the job takes and how much my eyes end up burning from staring at the computer screen.
I didn't make the amount of money I wanted to make today but I don't have to make all the money I need in one day. I've still got time.
One of the hardest things in my life for me to figure out is knowing when to push through the pain and when to rest because I am bending to the point of breaking.

Re: Make the money, don't let the money make you
I've been on a camming vacation for a week and..
I don't want to go back. Hahaha.
-
Re: Make the money, don't let the money make you
Yeah I've been on vacation for a week and start back tomorrow night. But we moved and I finally have a "camming" room! So very excited to be able to work more. But I get so lazy if I take a couple of days off.

Re: Make the money, don't let the money make you
Taking ManyRoses's advice, I made a small list of all the things that are awesome about my job today.
I am also going to force myself to actually start having some work/life balance. All I do is work and there isn't a lot of life to it. :/

Re: Make the money, don't let the money make you
Is the first time I listen to this song... Seems that I find many interesting stuff here around :D

Re: Make the money, don't let the money make you
To highjack my own thread for those people who really enjoyed the song, Macklemore sings another amazing one that is worth listening to when you are dealing with camming burnout.

I do believe this to be in part to be true....but personally I think it is also a dangerous trap to fall into.
The best advice that was ever given to me by 'The Great and Powerful Wizard of Camgirls' is that what most girls lose site of is that this is a job like any other job because we are giving up so much of ourselves personally. Like nurses and psychiatrists we are being paid to make people feel better and it is hard to separate the person we are from what we do.
So well I agree that attitude is everything, I also believe that there is no emotional 'negative' or 'positive' attitude needed.
What is needed is the realization that not only is this is a job. This is a commission based job. There will be good days and bad days despite how 'positive' or 'negative' your attitude is.
What counts is showing up and putting your time in and doing the best you can.
The same way everyone else in the world who works any other job does.

Re: Make the money, don't let the money make you
Yeah I've kinda been on a two week vacation. Mostly because of my work schedule but I have a new site to start on so between that and the fact I have friends coming up soon, I need to make that money. Trying to use that as motivation. Now if only I could find my damn camera which is still mia.

Damn fall from graces really hurt.
It really sucks having to start all over again after missing so much time on cam.

Re: Make the money, don't let the money make you
Macklemore is from Seattle which is about an hour from me so he's talked about a lot around here.
I've never sat down and listened to his music but I love that song.
Many thanks to you JAC.

He is from Seattle? I had no idea.
I used to live in Seattle a lifetime ago.

Re: Make the money, don't let the money make you
I'm a big fan of the Law of Attraction - so for me, a positive mindset is absolutely key. I would really recommend reading/watching/listening to LOA info - even if you don't get totally into the whole thing, you can still take something away, and I always find it very motivational.
Honestly, I find that thinking of it as a "job" tends to carry some negative connotations, so I don't like to do that too much.

i love Macklemore and what he stands for! and he's Sexy :D

Fighting my way back to the first page is a lot harder then I thought it was going to be.

I would like to take a minute to say... I LOVE RSAnimate videos. Love them. So much. And I don't know why! Why does seeing something drawn so much better than just hearing it? LOL
Anyway - I have a feeling that this could turn into a giant threadjack debate....but I thoroughly enjoy debating with other smart women, so woohooo!!! (Which also carries the disclaimer that really, if you have no interest in LOA, then it doesn't matter to me - therefore, whatever I say should only be taken as a discussion of the concept, rather than an attempt to bring you to the dark side...LOL)
I actually find that the attitude in that video is a really shallow interpretation of the idea. (Not to mention that the quantum physics fan in me wants to spit and rage at anyone who suggests that your thoughts DON'T change the things around you. It's been proven so very often..anyway) It's not about simply going into forced Pollyanna crap - the whole "fake happy" thing IS damaging and miserable and represses your actual feelings....to me, it is more about changing your perspective - changing your focus to the things that you do want, rather than spending all your mental energy thinking about bad things. There is a HUGE difference between the person who honestly looks for specific things to be grateful for each day, and the one that randomly chants "I am grateful for my health" with a shitty attitude every day and then wonders why nothing seems to be getting better even though they are "doing it". Kind of like the difference between having a meditational practice and randomly sitting still for ten minutes a day and wondering why you aren't any calmer.
There is also a weird assumption that LOA means that you can't question anything or consider any possible issues. Ummmm....that would be weird. It's not about finger in the ear lalalalalal can't-hear-you attitude - it's about having faith that obstacles will be overcome, and not focusing on problems and issues, but focusing on the end result.
Anyhoooooo.....
Oh, and to expand on the "job" comment - I don't know why, but I always imagine a very stern person looking down on me when I hear someone saying "This is a job" -I always think of the headmistress from Matilda....It's like something that you are forced to do -a requirement rather than something enjoyable...maybe I have just never had a good relationship with "jobs" and "careers". lol

I love debating too! Plus this is my thread, I say lets hijack the hell out of it. :D
1. You don't have to follow LOA to have a positive attitude. These two things are not mutually inclusive. I do not believe in LOA but I am a great fan on Positive Psychology.
2. Can a schizophrenic person 'change their thoughts' to become 'more positive?'
3. LOA encourages victim-blaming. According to the Religion Dispatches, Byrne argued that natural disasters strike those "on the same frequency as the event" and implied the 2006 tsunami victims could have spared themselves (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Secret_%28book%29)
4. The reason people get confused about the LOA and not questioning anything is because the law states "your life is a result of the things you think about." This means there is no problem solving involved. Example, in order for you to problem solve the reason why you are fat you'd have to consider why you are fat in the first place. By thinking about the fact you are currently fat ....then you are attracting the negative thoughts from the universe that are supposed to be the exact thoughts you are told you have attracted that are keeping you fat in the first place. (*Whew!*)

Wohoo! Let the games begin! :)
(disclaimer - I am a little drunk tonight...so if I make little sense, I will attempt to clean it up when I am sober again!)
1. Agreed. Absolutely. The one thing I would say is that LOA isn't actually about being "positive". You can have a completely "positive" attitude and be doing absolutely nothing even related to LOA. I'm actually less of a fan of people who are relentlessly positive - I find it really annoying. To me, it isn't about "positive thinking" so much as "focused thinking".
2. Again - not about being "positive", so I can't really reply to that. I DO believe that you can absolutely make a huge difference with mental illness depending on what you focus on (and I manage my own mental illness this way) - if you focus on the idea that you are "crazy" or "fucked up" or whatever - you will do yourself more harm than good. If you accept that you are depressed/manic/whatever and then just move on and focus on having the life you want anyway....it's a lot easier to deal with. I'm not schizophrenic (I'm bi polar, amongst other things) so I can't really comment on that specifically..
3. I actually think that this is a really good example of taking the LOA to the furthest (and most ridiculous) extreme. Do I think that if you have absolute control over your mind then you have the power to do basically anything? Yups. DO I think that anyone on earth actually has that level of ability? Nopefish. I think that LOA is a fantastic way to make your life better. But do I think that you have the ability to change natural disasters? Aw hell naw. And frankly, even if I actually believed that it was the one explanation for everything (as opposed to just a part of things, a useful technique) I would never be quite so moronic as to make a public declaration to the effect that people who have died "brought it on themselves". Good lord. There has to be a point where compassion stops people saying that kind of shit.
4. This is the only one of your points that I disagree with! Again, I think that this is a common (and wrong) interpretation of what the LOA means. First off, everything I have ever read on it makes a big ol point about the fact that no single thought creates reality instantly. It is about the longer term thought process - so take a moment to figure out what the issue is isn't going to destroy your life. For the fat example:
- Incorrect application of LOA - LALALALALA I can't hear you. I am thin. I am going to repeat the fact that I am thin a hundred times a day, but not change anything or think about losing weight, or anything like that. I'm going to buy a bunch of clothes that are too small for me and keep doing random affirmations that I don't actually believe.
- Total Ignoring of LOA - I am going to obsess over the fact that I am fat. I am going to look in the mirror every day and beat myself up about how fat and ugly I am. I'm going to think about this all the time, and buy clothes that hide how "fat" I am, and refer to myself as the "fat friend'.
- How I would apply LOA - What would a thin person do? How would my life look if I was thin and healthy? Well, I bet that I would eat xyz, and work out like this, etc etc. Now I'm going to live my life as though I am already thin - by which I mean - I am going to live like a "thin" person - eating healthy and working out and being happy when I look in the mirror. Would a thin person buy clothes too small for them? Nope. Would a thin person buy clothes that fit them? Yup. So do that.
Essentially, if you are constantly focusing on something, no wonder it ends up being foremost in your mind, and then you start living your life around it. It's not some random magic, it's actually common sense. And backed up by psychology, in that if you start thinking about/looking for something, you will start seeing it everywhere. It's not that you are suddenly bringing that thing into existence, but that your brain is simply not filtering it out the way it usually would.
I think that it is something that is so widely misinterpreted because it would be so lovely if it actually worked that way. If I could just actively think something and have it appear - that would be awesome. But that's not how it works! It is a constant effort and process to change your subconscious thoughts, and to create focus and faith in your life.
