Why is my MacBook Pro getting soooo hot!!!
Hey everyone...so I have been using the encoder on SM for a few weeks now...it's going pretty good except for the fact that my computer gets crazy hot on the left side! On top of that I will fully charge it before going online and within an hour or less it will get depleted! I don't understand. I have googled and read that Macs and Flash don't play well together. I know other ladies on SM have Macs so wondering if this is normal or do I have to change something with my settings.
I downloaded the I-Stat Pro thingy and right now it says my CPU is between 180 and 185 degrees. Above that where it says HD Macintosh its reading about 88 degrees. My fans fluctuate between 2900 and 3200.
I just don't want my computer to melt or something.
Thanks a lot for any advice I can get =)

I am also using the Mac Pro i5 and it's never been an issue. Which Mac are you using?

Re: Why is my MacBook Pro getting soooo hot!!!
A good idea is to get one of these:
Attachment 34463
You put your computer on it, and it has a little USB attached to a wire and you just plug it in. It's super light and easily moveable. It'll blow cool air into the bottom of your computer to help it from overheating/ That is what my laptop is sitting on right now.
Re: Why is my MacBook Pro getting soooo hot!!!
Thanks CanadianRuby for that idea =)
and Marina Starr I am using Mac OS X version 10.7.5...2 Ghz Intel Core i7...Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3.
I bought this 2 years ago from the Mac Store.
Do you hear your fans running cause to be honest I really don't. Was even thinking of taking it to the Mac store so they can just check it to see if all is okay.
It's ever since I downloaded the Flash media that this has been happening...so very frustrating when I want to cam for a few hours and I can't because I have to shut down to let it cool off and re-charge battery.
Thanks again though

Re: Why is my MacBook Pro getting soooo hot!!!
My laptop would get so hot during camming in HD that it would shut down by itself, without any warning. So I started using a laptop cooling pad, now I don't have issues anymore, no matter how long I stay online.
Re: Why is my MacBook Pro getting soooo hot!!!
Hmmm so I guess I will go and get a cooling pad and hopefully that cures it =)
thanks sexyaleks
I thought there was something wrong with my laptop..I wonder why it doesn't happen to everyone though
Re: Why is my MacBook Pro getting soooo hot!!!
Thank you Nathalia for the info about Flash and Mac. Last week I downloaded an auto-update for Adobe Flash Player something-or-other (I'm not very tech-oriented), and my fan started going nuts (I have a MacBook Pro from 2011). I was working on Naked, which also uses the FMLE for HD broadcasting.
When I brought it for service at the Mac Store recently, the tech reminded me to delete the FMLE files from the Movies folder. Every little bit helps - even if that doesn't solve the problem.
^ CanadianRuby, thanks for the tip about the laptop pad, I want one now. :D
Re: Why is my MacBook Pro getting soooo hot!!!
^ Yes, I'm defintely gonna get me one of these.
@Nathalia, just a few weeks ago my computer went on fire while using the encoder. Yep. I had to buy a new laptop, which I'm actually glad I did, but still, just goes to show, haha.
Re: Why is my MacBook Pro getting soooo hot!!!
I've had that belkin laptop pad before and it breaks so easy with barely any airflow. I thought maybe it was just the first one, but the second one I tried didn't last 6 months either. I got this one 2 years ago and it's still going strong and it's really sturdy.

Re: Why is my MacBook Pro getting soooo hot!!!
Macbooks are notorious for this. They have no or few vents on them, so they get hot. The one I had would always get super hot too.
Make sure you have it on a flat surface and maybe buy a cooling fan to put underneath.
Re: Why is my MacBook Pro getting soooo hot!!!
I like the laptop stand. It does not have a fan to cool the computer, but you might like it, Nathalia. It does the following for me:
1) hopefully allows more air to access the bottom of the laptop
2) height, better angle to hide my double-chin :D
3) any liquid spilled on my desk will not reach the laptop (buying a new MacBookPro because of a coffee dribble in 2011 *really* stung my wallet)
4) can be used with wireless keyboard and mouse with touch-to-click settings - useful for banning asshats without the visible arm motion or mouse-clicking sound ;D
Re: Why is my MacBook Pro getting soooo hot!!!
I have the Mac Pro i5 but mine is newer than yours. I got it less than a year ago. I hear the fan and it get a bit warm but it will cool down. I usually just use two thick books under it. Now I'm gonna get the cooling pad!

Re: Why is my MacBook Pro getting soooo hot!!!
Maybe it's just getting turned on by all your sexy shows.
Re: Why is my MacBook Pro getting soooo hot!!!
This is what I have and honestly can't live without it it's so amazing! The fan is decent but speakers are EXCELLENT and soft padding for your lap for when you're reading hours on end on SW like I am doing now catching up makes for super comfort! :)
