New and want to audition...today???
Hello everyone :) I've been lurking these forums for some time now and finally decided to join. Some info on me: I'm 22, and live near Denver; I've been contemplating stripping for almost a year now but have been too scared and self conscious to even start. The furthest I've gotten was walking into La Boheme, but got so nervous when asking about auditioning to be a dancer that I walked out after they told me what I needed to do.
Well, now I'm definitely in a financial situation where I need to come up with $2000 in rent by next Thursday or I'm getting evicted, so I figure I need to suck it up and start auditioning ASAP if I even have a chance of making close to that amount. So here are my main questions:
-I know it's always advised to audition during the week when it's slow, specially for a
new dancer; but would I have a chance of getting hired if I went and auditioned today? Would they even let me audition?
-my body isn't at the best of shape (5'3, 140 lbs) but I do have boobs (36-d). What kind of clubs should I look at in Denver for those stats? I've heard players club has lower standards but I wasn't sure.
-as a beginning dancer, is it at all possible to make $2000 in less than a week? Or is that just wishful thinking...lol
-and lastly, I don't have any stripper outfits or anything; I have some nicer tops and a black skirt, but that's about it (no sexy dresses :/); I only have 1 gstring and some vs black thongs, and some black vs push-up bras; would this be enough just to start, specially at a dive?
sorry for all the questions, I'm just overwhelmed and nervous, I'm hoping the more I know the more prepared I'll feel :/
Re: New and want to audition...today???
Sorry to hear about your situation. I'm sure you can get hired somewhere today just keep trying different clubs until you find one that will let you start working today. Black bra and black pushup bra sounds like a good basic outfit, just wear the sexiest pair of heels you currently own until you can get your own pair of stripper heels (which you might want to get as soon as you can since you're gonna have to be working your ASS off for the next few days and stripper heels are much more comfortable than regular heels.)
$2000 in less than a week for a newbie probably isn't impossible, but it is kind of a lot. All you can do is try your hardest and work as much as you can! Get in there and hustle! Good luck!
Re: New and want to audition...today???
Just go into the club and find out. There's no sense wasting precious money making time asking strangers on the Internet if you would get hired when we aren't the hiring manager. If one club doesn't take you, find another. Thursday isn't far off, so start chasing the $$$.
Re: New and want to audition...today???
Thank you for the replies! Well, on Friday I drove 40 mins to Players Club, sat in the parking lot for like 10 mins....then drove home :( what's wrong with me?? Gonna try again tomorrow, might drink beforehand to make it easier, I know I'm just psyching myself out. I know for sure I'm not going to make rent so at least I won't have the added pressure of that; I figure if I just make it as far as the audition, even if I don't get it it'll be a success. All they can do is say no...
Re: New and want to audition...today???
You really just have to DO IT. Go back to that club, and this time, get out of your car. Put one foot in front of the other, walk through the door, and tell the first person you see (who works there, of course) that you want to audition. Remember that they are people, just like you. Even the customers, who will be giving you money, are people... just like you. Every single girl who has ever done this has looked a tiny bit silly at her first audition, and I'd guess most have lived through it. ;) Many have even gone on to hone their bodies, and moves, and sales skills, to make really great money.
The club staff and dancers will watch your audition, but please keep in mind that they expect you to look a little awkward. All of the dancers have been right where you are, themselves. No one is going to laugh at you, even if you bust your ass.
Don't put so much pressure on yourself. Audition, and if you're hired, awesome! If not, try again until you are hired, somewhere. It is sometimes a great idea to start off at a lower-end club, where you can work out all your awkwardness and get a handle on what it takes to be successful at this job, before you move on to a higher-end club.
Good luck to you... you got this!
Re: New and want to audition...today???
Hello babe :) I will tell you all about my audition and how I dealt with it.
Basically I called up the club on a wednesday. I asked if they were hiring dancers and what the hiring process was like.
The lovely lady on the other end of the phone explained everything to me and asked when I was available for a trial, saying wednesday or thursday 8:30 was a good time, so i settled on the thursday and came in the next day.
I literally just wore a matching lingerie set I already owned. all i had to do was dance on stage for 5 minutes or so. don't be too nervous, i did this sober. your co-ordination will be better. once you get in there you'll feel more comfortable. there will be girls of all shapes sizes and colours, it made me feel better, anyway :p
my advice is just DIVE IN! set up an audition, show up, the worst they can say is no!
be confident, move slowly, MAKE SEXY EYE CONTACT!!! thats what they're looking for. how well you can engage your audience
you'll be fine, sweet! just don't over think it :)
Re: New and want to audition...today???
Denver Clubs have been really dry money wise. Even clubs like Labo.
Re: New and want to audition...today???
Girl, I did the same thing... did the hair, makeup, drove to the club, sat in the parking lot, and then bailed. And I've stripped before, so I don't know why I was so nervous. Err, yeah, I guess I was stone cold sober this time and that makes a difference. But, seriously, I think you have to look at it like this: You're doing the club a favor. They WANT you to be awesome because that's how they make their money. You're solving their problem by walking in and just being yourself (your dancer self) and having the courage to take it off and work it like a business! You can do this! Go get it!!
Re: New and want to audition...today???
You just have to do it ! If you are a brand new, a top tier club might not be a place to start but maybe try some medium tier places! I've danced briefly in Denver and Boulder it's possible to work the same day.
Re: New and want to audition...today???
Denver is notorious for only hiring very thin girls at the top places. I mean .... VERY thin .
Re: New and want to audition...today???
what about PT's? Are they a little more lenient with curvy girls?
Re: New and want to audition...today???
I can tell you I've worked at D.C. on and off since 08. Yes they use to prefer very thin girls but they have thick girsl there believe me. I'm 5feet 6 111 and most the girls are bigger than me by like 20 or more pounds. There where some girls last I was there I was scratching my head on how the hell they got hired. It depends what director you get when you audition and how bad they are in need of girls. If our new though I would say and I have no idea what you look like or how well you hold your weight go to a lower tier club or go to the top ones( Diamond, Labo, penthouse and see what they say) and my gf is there right now and made 900 sat So the money is there if you know how to hustle... Denver was always good no matter what month I went but I did go when conventions where there but Denver gets lots of traveling oil and gas guys( big money),
Re: New and want to audition...today???
DC and Penthouse Club want 2 forms of ID to audition. At Penthouse club I was told after my audition that I looked good and knew how to move, but they weren't looking to hire girls like me, or looking to hire more "beautiful" girls or something. I'm 5feet2inches 112ish lbs. I have tattoos... A girl in the locker room suggested I go to La Boheme.
Re: New and want to audition...today???
I don't get why clubs make girls audition if they already know that they aren't going to hire her. -__- this is an old thread though.
