Re: Are You A Career Stripper Or Are You Working Towards Another Career?
I'm gonna do it until I decide to commit to something else. I've found that have worked both sides of the spectrum :Vanilla World Or Dancing, that i am much happier & financially stable dancing. Sure I can always take much needed breaks in between but as of now I love dancing too much to want to quit before i need to.

Re: Are You A Career Stripper Or Are You Working Towards Another Career?
I see lots of hot dancers in their 40s that do well but none in their 50s or higher. I have a degree and am going to grad school so I can increase my earnings with a real job. I absolutely don't have the energy to make $200k/yr now and by the time im 50 I want to be making at least $500k, not desperately begging for scraps at whatever clubs are left and freaking out over what ill do for money for the next 40 years.
ill continue to dance thru grad school (another 4 yrs) plus whatever it takes till I land a 6 figure job and own my first property outright. that should all happen before im 30.

True, I can't imagine being 50-something and still stripping. But, I'd rather not be 70-something and still working AT ALL... so I'm gonna keep doing it part-time as long as I can, to save money so that I (actually, we) can retire someday. Hubs and I both have full-time day jobs that pay the bills and provide health insurance for us & the kids, but there is little left for anything else. I figure I've got maybe 10 years left stripping, hopefully I'll be able to shuffle a good chunk into an IRA by then. I hate to think of dropping dead at 80 at my Wal-Mart greeter job...

lmao yah I would not want a shitty job like that at age 80 but for a lot of dancers that's all they'll be qualifies to do when they run out of their savings. I'm a busy body tho, I never want to fully retire, I plan on being a professional until 70s then managing investments after that :). I just can't imaging making enough from age 20-40 to be able to comfortable retire until you die at 90. obv if u also have a full time day job with a pension etc its a totally different situation.
plus, I would not want to retire just for the sake of retiring. I want to live life to the fullest till I die! if that means that Ill be working part time forever so I can continue to vacation 6 times a year then fantastic! bring it on! ill be damned if i ever end up in a double wide for seniors!

Re: Are You A Career Stripper Or Are You Working Towards Another Career?
I am doing it as a means of securing my corporate future. I've got about a year and a half left for my Bachelor's in Political Science, then I am going straight to grad school and doing a dual-degree program where i'll get my MBA and Law degrees and then become a Business Attorney. I will get a part-time job as a paralegal or something of that nature after my Bachelor's once I'm in grad school, but dancing is so lucrative I plan on doing it at least part time until I get my graduate degrees and start practicing Law. So by the time I quit dancing for good I will probably have danced for about 7 years, with 2 years of dancing under by belt already. :)

Re: Are You A Career Stripper Or Are You Working Towards Another Career?
Awesome thread, I love everyone's thoughts on this. I already went to and finished school, am licensed and working as a registered nurse. I also do dog-walking as a side gig, here and there. But my one true love is dancing. Fortunately, I picked a career that's pretty flexible scheduling wise; I work two days as a nurse and one weekend night as a dancer. I will do it as long as I can. Honestly, one job makes me appreciate the other. When I'm having a crazy day with patients, I look forward to the laid-back work environment of the club (at least where I'm at). When the club is dead, full of drama, and I have no money in my garter (actually I use a hair tie around my ankle, lol), I appreciate the stability and professionalism of the nursing career. I really believe that balancing out both my wild and vanilla sides has led to longevity in both fields. I couldn't do the same job day in and day out. I don't think anyone ever should!

Re: Are You A Career Stripper Or Are You Working Towards Another Career?
I was a SuperStripper!!
I used my earnings to invest in other stuff that would create passive income for me when I retired. That's my passion and I love teaching others how to do it as we'll.
Once I begrudgingly retired at the age of 36 (my spine just wouldn't tolerate another night in those shoes) I started my new career.

Looking and feeling my best is kind of a hobby for me now. I love working out, and finding new, sneaky skin care/ makeup secrets to keep me looking way younger than I am.
As for stamina and agility to dance... I have enough to not look like a complete idiot on stage, as I just kinda strut & slowly pose... most of what I do on stage is in my face, between me & the customers. I don't see a huge difference in earnings between myself and a pole athlete, except that maybe I sell more dances, because I really get into *sales*, which brings me to...
No desperation here. Just relaxed, happy confidence.
Share your skincare secrets please!I'm intrigued!
Also I agree on the looking good being a hobby thing. I am like that too now, and honestly I look at pictures of me in my early-mid twenties (I'm 31 now) and I have definitely 'blossomed' lol. I look much better now, I probably could have, then but as you say-I just couldn't be bothered!

on a side note (not to threadjack), the top earners in my club are all in their 30's, because usually they look just as good if not better, and all the big spenders are in their 50's or so and feel weird giving money to a 20 year old, who could be the same age as their daughter... so they purposely seek out the "older girls" (i dont like to refer to them as "older" because it seems disrespectful, like it's their only feature when its definitely not...) sometimes i wish i was older or try to make myself older so that these guys will want to spend money on ME!! i guess it depends on your club though. mine is considered a gentlemen's club, so that kind of sophisticated hot mom look makes the most money.
It sucks about your parents hun :(
I love the lifestyle stripping gives me too . I'm NO good at getting up in the middle of the night and being alert 9 hours a day. I love having free days, being able to make enough £ in one weekend to live on, I'm a fairly lazy person I guess but I do my fair share of worthwhile things too. I just don't like time restrictions.

I want to be you!Lol I was far too dumb when I was young.
Anyway, I'm not sure what I am.
I'm 31 and still dancing so could say I'm a career stripper. I started at 19. BUT, I quit for four or so years whilst at Uni, I did a B.A and then a Masters' in the end. I got a fairly good job at a water company. I went back to stripping at the weekends because I missed it. OF that company, they treated me like dirt and I went off sick after 2 and a half years with work related stress. They sacked me.
I decided to go back to stripping as my only source of income, then began camming to supplement that, most of the time I don't need to but I like maximising my earnings.
I'm very happy to have done this and have no desire to return to vanilla work. That episode of it is enough to put me off for life. I love my freedom now,and the fact that dancing inspires me to keep fit and look nice, and gives me time to spend with loved ones.
I am trying to keep myself fit and healthy and I still look good according to others although I can be a bit hyper critical of myself-I guess that comes with the regret of ever quitting dancing when I was younger, I kinda wish I never had.
I will do this job until I no longer enjoy it. I hope to quit before the earnings dry up because my zimmer frame won't get up the pole, though-just 'cause I want to go out on a high, not because I have to.

Re: Are You A Career Stripper Or Are You Working Towards Another Career?
I like what sugarmouse said about going out on a high...I didn't. I pushed my body too hard and really the last 2 years of dancing I only did it during the busy season (easy money) even though it would take me two days to recover from one shift of working.
-
Re: Are You A Career Stripper Or Are You Working Towards Another Career?
Agreed, Britney. I am 33 and do better now than in my 20s but even though no one ever thinks I'm older than 26 my body can't take full time anymore. I have a day job that I love and am creating a career in and dance a few nights a week now. I plan to be done at 36. I plan to get a boob job as my retirement gift to myself, lol. Kinda the opposite of what most dancers do but those babies will be for me and me alone.

Unfortunately, despite rigorous workouts, attentive diet etc. there is still this fact of life that seemingly can't be escaped. Even though the outside of your body may look 10-20 years younger than it really is, the inside of your body doesn't know that !!! Backs, knees, toes, shoulders ... all accumulate more 'mileage' every time you dance. And if you're working in an alcohol club add kidneys and livers to the list !

Re: Are You A Career Stripper Or Are You Working Towards Another Career?
I'm career. I'm almost 28 and not motivated to stripping full time anymore though. According to my manager, I seem to be a very spoiled stripper this time around. (I read a lot of SW on my last break and decided I wasn't dealing with bullshit anymore) I burn out quite frequently. I refuse to work during the winter anymore because I got into an accident last year.
I know my career as a stripper is getting closer to the end every year, so I've been looking into alternate income streams. I've been saving a bigger chunk or my earnings each year (started at 3%, up to 35%). Contributing to my 401K monthly. I'm starting to ask my FIL about investing in stocks. As for actual work, I am active on C4S. I've signed up to camming sites, but I'm too chicken to do it consistently. So I'm getting ready to transition from stripping to camming when my kids start school in a few years. I plan to take the MILF category by storm!!

Re: Are You A Career Stripper Or Are You Working Towards Another Career?
Is it wrong wanting both ? I want a career job and stripping aside for weekends.

Re: Are You A Career Stripper Or Are You Working Towards Another Career?
I consider myself a career stripper. Been dancing since I was 18. I'd kinda say I'm more a career adult industry employee lol. I probably should have went to school for some kind of skill but I just never liked having to study and things like that, especially when I was younger.
I do save my money though and do a little investing. So it's not like I just have a part-time job. I do take a lot of it serious unlike so many other younger girls in the business.
-
Re: Are You A Career Stripper Or Are You Working Towards Another Career?
I've always known that stripping isn't something I want to do long term, but I realized this year that I've been stuck, not moving forward with anything and just stripping the time away. I'm now back in school pursing my bachelors in nursing. I don't think there is anything wrong with being a "career stripper" but this industry has a time limit, and I'm not the marry-type or the entrepreneurial type that would succeed after my stripper retirement.
-
Re: Are You A Career Stripper Or Are You Working Towards Another Career?
I want to eventually start a business and make even more money than I do now. I also want to find a nice guy, get married, and be a mom and I don't think I'll want the pressure of late nights by that point. But, if the industry is still intact and I have a clean club near me I probably will sporadically work especially when I know it will be good. I have a 5 yr plan, but only because I want kids (I dont know how moms juggle late nights and children in the morning! Super women!) and I fear for how long the industry will remain clean.

Re: Are You A Career Stripper Or Are You Working Towards Another Career?
I am soon to be 29 and have been dancing since I was 19. I was attending college for teaching then dropped out and changed majors several times. I recently came back to school last year now for nursing. This summer I am taking an accelerated real estate course and plan on obtaining my license. I am attending community college and still have some time before I get my associates then ba. I also have a side business selling exotic dancewear. i work at 2 clubs regularly and 2 others I make appearances. I plan to dance, continue my schooling, and take a stab at the real estate game.. someone told me "pretty faces sell houses" plus im a hustler when I wanna be.. Im looking forward to seeing how that all works out... i love how i can type in what i am feeling and see that others felt the same way and their plans of action .. melonies advice is golden and girls like tempest666 are awesome .. thank you all you beautiful ladies for your contributions -- ive been more of a reader on this site with a couple post and ive grown quite a bit since i first joined -- cool to go thru these changes with others' support -- love <3

Re: Are You A Career Stripper Or Are You Working Towards Another Career?
^^^ I apparently went at this in 'reverse order'. Before I ever started dancing, I had already obtained a degree and professional license, and had already worked as a Respiratory Therapist for several years. I loved the job, but hated the hours ( nights, weekends, holidays ), started to fear the risk factors ( contracting diseases from patients, potential AIDS due to blood samples etc. ), and really wasn't making stellar financial headway even though I was receiving regular paychecks.
I actually started dancing because I wound up contracting TB from one of my hospital patients ... which put me out of work thus trying to make ends meet on 'disability' checks during the course of treatment. A new club opened up down the street, and with bills piling up I figured 'what the hell'. I never returned to Respiratory Therapy. And at this point, with 12 years worth of serious, full time dancing earnings resulting in a sizeable savings and investment nest egg, I don't need to actually work as a Respiratory Therapist ... or work at anything else ... for the rest of my life if I don't want to.

Re: Are You A Career Stripper Or Are You Working Towards Another Career?
^ Frankly, I totally want to be Melonie when I grow up.
-
Re: Are You A Career Stripper Or Are You Working Towards Another Career?
^^^ I strongly advise skipping the 'contracting TB' part, and also the 'running around hospital hallways carrying syringes filled with AIDS tainted blood samples' part ! If only I hadn't 'wasted' those years spent at college and working in hospitals, and had been able to bank dancing / camming earnings for those extra years, today I'd be living in the south of France instead of south of Mexico !

Career stripper. I'm in my 40's and am feeling good. I'll keep going until either the club throws me out or I start collecting social security.

This all depends on the dancer. I must be the Brett Favre of strippers. (He's like 1 month older than me, LOL!) I eat really clean, workout hard, don't smoke, drink very moderately, and stretch every night. Sure, stuff hurts sometimes, but I just keep modifying to work around the aches and pains.
I've met a few of strippers in their 50's over my career. They all seemed to be very health and fitness savvy and maintain a good sense of humor about their careers.
