What do you wish you knew when you started camming?
I just got my MFC account approved and I'm going to start camming any day now. What advice do you wish someone had told you in the beginning? I'm kind of nervous. I do nude modeling, but I think this is pretty different. I've been reading the forums, but it's a lot of information and a tad overwhelming. Any tips/advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks, loves.

Re: What do you wish you knew when you started camming?
To be consistent with your schedule and keep a notepad or word document open- or you can add a note to the users directly on MFC. In your notes keep track of their name, location, various details that you can bring up to make the, feel special, things that they like in their show.
You need to build regulars to make money, without consistency and a connection you have nothing unless you have a lucky day.
Make people feel special and appreciated.
Camming is not easy, it is a LoT of work.
Try not to let customers get too close to you or they will think they have a chance to date/be with you and that means that they won't tip. I'd avoid selling or giving out your phone number even to people who spend lots. Try to keep business on the site.
Get a twitter account and tell them about it, post pictures and updates as to when you will be online.
Hope this helps. Xo

Re: What do you wish you knew when you started camming?
I wish I had signed up on a ton of sites and tried them all out and started building my brand right away. You picked a hell of a difficult site to start on :) but hopefully you will be one of the camgirls that really take off. I'd register for a few more sites though.

Re: What do you wish you knew when you started camming?
I work SM, not MFC, but I'm sure most of these still apply.
BE CONSISTENT. Treat it like a job. Not only will you make more money because you'll build a regular customer base who will know when they can find you online, but it is so so so much easier to log on when it's become a habit. Days off & long breaks are the enemy (for me at least.)
Camming sort of requires venturing outside of your comfort zone at first, but you have to maintain your standards. If something makes you uncomfortable (in an icky, soul-killing kind of way, not just normal anxiety), don't do it. If they don't take no for an answer, block them and move on. If someone is making you uncomfortable or unhappy, block them and move on. It shouldn't be necessary to sell your soul or your happiness to be successful in this business. Camming will change who you are as a person, but it doesn't have to be for the worse.
Customers are not nearly as picky about your body/makeup/hair as you are. There's probably not going to be any difference in income from spending 30 minutes getting ready versus 3 hours--except, of course, the lost income from those 2.5 hours. The thing that will actually make the biggest difference in how you look (IMO) is good lighting (and false lashes.) It's the shadows that get you. Look up 3 point lighting techniques, and play with your cam settings.
In private shows, learn to draw it out. You don't need to stall, exactly, just learn to introduce yourself, ask them questions, move slowwwly, tease them, etc. You don't need to immediately start pounding yourself.
Watch out for emotional/attention/energy vampires. Just because someone's "nice" doesn't mean you have to put up with them. Unless they're spending enough that you feel it's a fair trade.
Don't be scared of fetishes or roleplays that you've never done before. If you have a basic idea of what it's about, it's not against the site rules/your personal rules, and the price is right, just say yes and fake it til you make it. It's the only way to start. Hand to god, these guys are not difficult to please. You can sound/act like a moron and they'll say it was the best show they've ever had.
Take care of your pussy, it pays your bills and if you don't it will get sore and you won't want to work and it will suck majorly. Fake anything you can convincingly fake and use lots of lube/coconut oil.

Nothing! Everything I learned about camming was learned via experience...besides...there is nothing that you'd wish you knew before camming that you can't simply fix or work on changing it.

Exactly! I'm constantly learning after over 3 years of camming.

To charge more.
Be consistent (still have trouble with this)
Make content. selling a video here and there adds up. Sure making $5 off one vid sucks...upfront but not when you realize you will make $5 off that video every week for the foreseeable future.

Re: What do you wish you knew when you started camming?
I wish I knew how to save and how to invest. And I wish I knew how to stick to a schedule. Also how to select a couple of sites that worked best for me, and not frazzle my poor newbie brain by taking on too much!

Second this ... camming has been changing every year, and today it bears hardly any resemblance to when I first started in the late 90's.

Re: What do you wish you knew when you started camming?
I wish I knew that there is assholes out there that will record your shows and post it online for everyone to see... Make sure you get a watermark on your camfeed!

Re: What do you wish you knew when you started camming?
I think they're easier to spot now, but I had a heck of a problem with fake tips on my first night. IAW charge more- when I think of all the extra money I missed out on...:banghead:

Re: What do you wish you knew when you started camming?
I wish I knew that Guys can only see what you want them to see. Cleaning under the bed, dusting, moping, washing dishes and doing laundry will not make them think your a more neater person then u really are, they cant see the mess useless u show it.

Re: What do you wish you knew when you started camming?
That you need a hell lot of Discipline to build regulars and be successful. I already have discipline issues and this job being so Free its very hard for me. But I know I can rock at it if Im really focused so that keeps me going.

Re: What do you wish you knew when you started camming?
I wish I knew that I could demand payment for every little itty bitty thing.

Re: What do you wish you knew when you started camming?
Hey everyone! I'm new to this forum but I'm thankful I found it. I'm on MFC now and I feel like I am showing way too much skin in free chat..it is so frustrating! People seem to stay only a couple of minutes, not tip, and then leave. I started my account with MFC in October 2012 and never actually put any effort into it. I made about $120 in the month of October and November total, lol. I lost my job recently and need income so I logged into MFC to start camming again. My cam score is so low I feel because I haven't been on in so long and when I am on no one tips usually. Its so frustrating and I really don't want to give up. :/ I did join SM and I am hopeful that things will pick up there.
Ok so here's my point in posting my sob story (thanks for reading btw)...I feel like building your client base is essential on sites like MFC and a lot of customers like memorabilia they can have of yours (e.g. panties, videos, etc.) I really need to build an arsenal of things to sell to these customers. I just feel like I'm giving away a lot in free chat and it isn't paying right now...I would appreciate any advise from veteran cam models as to how long it really takes to build a client base? How long should I give it before throwing in the towel!!? I read on a site that it can take 3 to 6 months to actually get your hustle down, is that true? Thanks in advance and I look forward to participating more in this forum. :)

If you are needing to make steady money right away I would ditch MFC and go somewhere like streamate.
-
Re: What do you wish you knew when you started camming?
Thanks goreantx, I am awaiting approval on Streamate so we'll see how it goes there. I think I misused my new model status on MFC and wasn't on the site as much as I should have been during my "new" status.
I am new to this but my advice to any other new cam girl would be to work the heck out of your new status on whatever site you choose. Be on the site as much as you can those first weeks! Good luck everyone! <3

Re: What do you wish you knew when you started camming?
I wished I'd have known not taken any notice of that camgirl blog I read that said you should "start low and slowly raise your prices over the time" - she quoted something like starting at $2.30 per min... and slowly raise...
*EPIC FACE-PALM*
I spent so long... too long at less than $4.99 per min at the point where I spent the MOST time on cam... Arghhhh!
But yeah, everything else I already knew! ;D Bahaha!

Re: What do you wish you knew when you started camming?
I wish I would have known how many software I would have to master!
Just off the top of my head I end up using everyday....
1. Adobe Encoder
2. Gimp
3. Open Office Calc
4. Splitcam
5. VirtualDub
6. Skype
7. Logitech Webcam Software
8. Evernote
I didn't ever use any of this software before I became a camgirl!!!
Not to mention all the time I'd have to put into learning how to use Tumblr and Twitter! Social media marketing and SEO.
